whats the story behind that?

There were a lot of people on the field for some reason and a fan was jogging alongside him and all of a sudden Danny started pummeling the guy into the ground. Never heard anything else about it, think it was a Vikings game to boot...

I don't think I could compare them. I remember watching Danny play, and now seeing Romo play, I feel like there is a lot more UP side to Romo. Danny was a favorite of mine while he was playing because he QB'ed my favorite team. But, looking back, I don't rank him in my top 3 Cowboys' QB's. Romo has that something "extra" about him that I don't remember Danny having. Romo may eventually surplant Meredith on my top 3, but right now - for me - my favorites were:

1) Staubach
2) Aikman
3) Meredith

So how would you guys compare Danny White and Romo

At this point I'd say they're about even.

I'm sure some fans will balk at that. As the years go by, some people only remember the bad.

He was very good, but he inherited a team that was somewhat in decline. He could thrill you one moment, then throw a backbreaking "what were you thinking?" interception. He had a career year in 1983, but still lost his job the following training camp. From 1985 to 1988, we were just treading water with him and Pelluer at the helm.

Way too early to make that kind of overall judgement. Romo is little more then a rookie when it comes to field experience. He should continue to improve over the next 2 seasons.

Romo has already shown his mobility like both Staubach and White. He's also putting up stats while winning which project to possibly erasing White's records of most TDs in a season & also most yardage in a season.

Romo's also on track to possibly erase Aikman's record of the most 300+ yards thrown in a career; Remo already has thrown 4 300+ yard games this season & 3 last season --totaling 7. Seven more 300+ games would give him that record either this year or next year.

Judgement on Romo's performance Cowboy QB will come several years down the road and will be determined by his playoff performances and SB wins.l

I'd agree...and right now, I might even give White a small edge because he did it longer than Romo has so far...its still very early in Romo's development

Steve Pelleur QB'd most of the games from late 1986 through the 88 season...he was kinda like Quincy (on the field, not off) except with a stronger arm...he had some talent but was very mistake prone..

David

I don't think Peulleur's arm was any stronger than Carter's. They pretty much were the same guy as far as skill set.

Danny White was good. Unfortunately, he was not great and greatness is what Dallas needed to win one of those NFC championship games of the early 80s. His career QB rating is 81.71, which is higher than Troy Aikman's 81.62. That says something, but of course not the whole story.

There was a period of time I call "The Hogeboom Outcry," in which fans wanted the kid with the stronger arm. Landry eventually gave Hogeboom a shot and he threw a bunch of pics from what I recall.

I posted this question in another thread, but I was just wondering I was too young to remember him when he was playing and I see all the records he has for us I was just wondering how good was he during games and if he's so far up in our record books how come he doesnt get the same accolades as our other QBs?

Very good qb

Average poster :D

In 1986, the Cowboys started 6-2, had the #1 offense in the NFL, and found themselves tied for the lead in the NFC Eastern Division all under White's field generalship. During an away game against Bill Parcells’ New York Giants, however, a vicious blindside sack by Giants linebacker Carl Banks broke White's throwing wrist, knocking him out of the game and ending his season. Dallas lost the game, 17-14, and without White, the team faded badly, finishing the year 7-9. It was the Cowboys' first losing season since 1965. <---- From Wiki

I remember they were averaging 36 points per game before that game. He was a damn good QB..... You have to mention him with Troy, Roger and Dandy Don. He deserves that kind of recognition.

Did White join the team as a punter than turned QB or did he come in as a QB that was able to punt if that makes sense

Sounds like the man had some extrememly good value for the team during his days. What famous QB would you guys say Whites game resembles so I can have an idea?

He was QB and punter for Arizona State coming out of college.

When he joined the Cowboys he was backup QB and starting punter... but he continued to be the punter even after he was the full-time starting QB.

Just a very good athlete.

Personally, I thought he was Steve Young before there was Steve Young in SF.

He was a QB but was a good enough Punter to make the team as the starting punter and the backup QB. White didn't come to Dallas straight from ASU. He actually QBed in the World Football League and I believe he won a championship there. He later signed with Dallas and that's how he came to be our QB.

If I remember right, White got injured, Hogeboom came in and played great for that one game. Which may have been the reason Landry decided to start him over White. What a mistake that was.
