Yeah, Hogenbloom.

Every time I see Beverly Hills Cop and the Chief calls Billy Rosewood Detective Roseweed, I think of this.

He was a QB but was a good enough Punter to make the team as the starting punter and the backup QB. White didn't come to Dallas straight from ASU. He actually QBed in the World Football League and I believe he won a championship there. He later signed with Dallas and that's how he came to be our QB.

He played for the original Memphis Grizzlies :D

I posted this question in another thread, but I was just wondering I was too young to remember him when he was playing and I see all the records he has for us I was just wondering how good was he during games and if he's so far up in our record books how come he doesnt get the same accolades as our other QBs?

First of all, thank you for making me feel OLD.... :laugh2:

Second: Danny was terrific. I grew up idolizing the Cowboys during the 80's and Danny was my favorite QB. DW to Doug Cosbie connection for 15 yards over the middle was one of my favorite plays. He caught alot of heat because he wasn't Roger, but the fact is that the Cowboys were on their way down when he took over. Although still a very talented team, as 3 straight apperances in the NFC championship game can verify, it was a team on the decline.

Still, even with all of that, it was a miracle horsecollar tackle with two fingers ( not " the catch " ) of Tony Hill by Ronnie Lott that prevented Danny from starting in a Superbowl.

he was a good, not great QB...his numbers were always pretty good and as someone else mentioned, he had that ability to bring us from behind (twice vs Falcons in playoffs, the first was 1978 after Staubach was knocked out)...also did it numerous other times, including the amazing come back win vs Washington

but late in his career his arm strength had really went away, and it seemed he had a huge problem with picks going back the other way...

he played poorly in 2 of 3 NFC Championships he played in, but many dont remember he actually outplayed Montana in the 1981 game and had his final completion went to Tony Hill instead of Drew Pearson (who was caught) he'd probably have won a championship

He was never the same after he broke his wrist that one year

Sounds like the man had some extrememly good value for the team during his days. What famous QB would you guys say Whites game resembles so I can have an idea?

Eli Manning would be my first thought.

Your right Kang. I think he was like 6-1/6-2 in 86 with the #1 offense in the league when he went down. We finished with something like 7 wins the season of 86. That will tell ya a little bit about how good he was and how poor the backup was.

He was 34 and in his 11th year in the league when he broke his wrist, so it is understandable that he was never the same.

I mentioned it earlier but I thought Steve Young. I don't think Manning is half the athlete Danny White was. JMO.

In 1986, the Cowboys started 6-2, had the #1 offense in the NFL, and found themselves tied for the lead in the NFC Eastern Division all under White's field generalship. During an away game against Bill ParcellsNew York Giants, however, a vicious blindside sack by Giants linebacker Carl Banks broke White's throwing wrist, knocking him out of the game and ending his season. Dallas lost the game, 17-14, and without White, the team faded badly, finishing the year 7-9. It was the Cowboys' first losing season since 1965. <---- From Wiki

I remember they were averaging 36 points per game before that game. He was a damn good QB..... You have to mention him with Troy, Roger and Dandy Don. He deserves that kind of recognition.

I don't remember it being a blindside hit. I thought Banks hit Danny's wrist with his facemask as he got White from his front side. It has been too long ago.

Yea, that might be the case. They do look similar when they throw the football.

I think Young was a much better athlete than Danny. Steve was a " Quarterunningback ". Delhome ( mentioned ) would be antoher good example.

White was a pretty good scrambler in his own right. Just happened that in those days, Dallas had a pretty good OL. He never really needed to run much. However, as a punter, he was famous for running with the ball on the fake but your probably correct. Young was a better runner then was Danny. That's fair.

White missed playing time due to injury during the first half of 1986. Pelluer started when Dallas pasted the Skins. But White was having the best year for him since 1983 and that injury was a big loss.

he was good up to crunch time then spit the bit game after game, year after year.

he's a classic numbers guy missing the "IT" that roger and troy had.

So how would you guys compare Danny White and Romo
Romo has alot more potential and more leadership and intangibles.

with Danny you KNEW you weren't winning. With Romo lets get real we'll be very disappointed if we don't win something.

You are right though when Romo is out there you just feel like with the game in his hand we can win anything. Man just imagine us beating the Bears last year and facing the colts and winning. We should be the SB champs we had the Colts number :bang2: :bang2:

That Bears defense last year was much better than the one Dallas faced this season and it was much colder in January. I do like the match up, but it would not have been easy to beat the Bears. Dallas would have then have to go to New Orleans to face the Saints. That matchup did not favor Dallas.

To say nothing of the Bears defense Danny White faced back in 85. Now that was a scary defense.
