How great was Romo?

I'm not making assumptions - I simply stated fact. The assumption was that they would be 3-0 with a different QB. That is a total assumption.

Yes, the offense would probably be more effective. But again, that's an assumption, not fact because everything is inter-related. Is it the play-calling? Is it the QB? Is it both? Is it the O line.

The best comparison is if Tony and Eli were reversed, would Tony have won a SB with the Giants and Eli not here. I think so, but there's no way to know or prove.

So, you believe Dak is the best Qb for this offense?

I think it’s a better argument if we had those Giants defense we could have won a SB.

Romo didn’t play his best games on the bigger stages in the playoffs but we certainly wouldn’t have made it to the playoffs without him.

Let me start by saying in 2016 they had no choice but to leave the rookie in there who was tearing it up over the increasingly brittle vet Romo. It was just time to move on.

Now on to 9. For years I would argue with Giants fans here in NJ, when they would say he stinks he couldn’t get that team to the playoffs, I would say He just carried a completely coachless, moderatly talented team that should have been 4-12 to an 8-8 season and a completely vanilla offense to 28pts per game or more. Not only was he changing every play but he was moving around in the pocket like a ninja to create time for receivers to get open. I really wish Jerry wasn’t such a selfish dbag and didn’t chase Parcells out of town with JO/TO. That team was ripe to dominate but you turned the keys over to fun Uncle Wade and now your nerdy adapted son because they make Jerry feel good. Now we see Romo’s creativity in the booth. He’s still the man. I still believe in Dak but he can’t do it alone as Tony did for so many years.

TR was as good as TA , RS, DM, heck Aikman said he thought Tony was better than himself. The only difference was that TR didn't have Tom or Jimmy to coach him and JJ ran Bill out of town and brought in the big red loser. I have seen all the QB's since Meredith TR didn't have the great all around teams that the rest had but was every bit as good. Just my humble opinion.

They didn't doctor the ball. They inserted a new ball. Inserting a new ball shouldn't have prevented Romo from putting the snap down (he caught it just fine). Yes, they changed the rule, but it doesn't mean Romo shouldn't have still executed the play.

It was a new ball. It wasn't scuffed. No excuse for bobbling it or not running into the end zone.

Romo could not win a playoff game with a Cowboys record 13 pro bowlers in 2007.

Young fans at the time, thought the 2007 13-3 team was better than the 1992 team; until the 2007 team lost their first playoff game.

He did throw what should have been the game-winning TD pass with about 20 seconds to go.
And the team they lost to did also beat the 18-0 Patriots...a team that beat Dallas by 3 TDs that year

Also, I agree that was a good team, though older and fading some towards the end. Also, TO was hurt during the playoff game.
fwiw....Do you really think even half of those guys belonged in the Pro Bowl?

Do they have a 30th ranked offense and only 1 offensive play over 20 yards averaging 13.5 points a game. If so, they have some serious issues too.

No, history will not tell that. It doesn't matter if Dak becomes the worst QB in the history of the league. It won't change the fact he played a great game that day and there is no guarantee Romo would have done better. History does show the offense typically didn't perform well in elimination games under Romo and many fans blame the defense for Romo's shortcomings. Yet, in a game our defense was torched, QB seems to be the focal point of the loss. I find that funny since Romo fans spend a large portion of their time blaming others (especially the defense) for Romo not having more success.

Dak did throw a bad interception that day and deserves a portion of the blame.

Romo took 3 bad sacks in 2014 GB playoff game and fumbled a snap on a 3rd and short late in the 1st half which stalled our drive where we could have entered halftime up 21-7. But Murray, Bailey, the defense, and the refs are the only people blamed. The Packers were also stacking the box and Romo wasn't throwing deep until the 4th and short. Does that sound familiar?

I did not say anything about the playoff game. History will tell you that Romo should have been put back in as Dak's career goes down the toilet in the next few years! It was a bad decision and the coaches could not see that Dak was only the product of a great situation!

JG should have been giving Romo half his pay.

History may dictate moving on from Romo in 2017 was a bad decision. We know Dak sucked and the "should've, could've, would've" is undefeated. We don't have an alternate universe to show were Romo comes back and either leads the team to the SB or gets injured yet again with millions of dollars of cap space being flushed down the toilet. But, I'm sure Romo fans believe SB was on the horizon.

One thing is for sure..

Tony Romo’s potential was never maximized with the buffoon HC, who used to hold the reigns of play-calling and didn’t allow Romo in game-planning meetings.

He did lead the league in Playoff QB rating in 2014.
And really 3 of our 4 playoff losses could've easily gone the other way.

• He DID throw what should've been the game winner near the end of the Giants loss. Perfect pass in the endzone for the win, but Crayton pulled up.
• Not sure they would've won vs GB even with the Dez catch, but that went to the wire too and he had the all-time best QB rating in a losing cause.
• And the 1st year, with special teams holder bobbled snap....well as a QB (which is the discussion), he did drive the team down for the go ahead points. That was just freakish. with the NFL changing the ball rules the next year and basically no starting NFL QBs ever again asked to hold for a kicker.

He certainly was a bit snake-bitten at times and NEVER made excuses about it.

The thing that I really miss about having Tony Romo: You never felt like ANY game was unwinnable. He's ended some undefeated seasons (Colts '06, Saints '09)

I don't have that same faith. He had his faults, but look at the offense between now and then...it's night and day...

That's not a phenomenon unique to the Cowboys. Most teams don't go to the playoffs without their starting QB.
