How much would you pay to extend Shultz?

I like him but let’s not get carried away here a lot of TEs can do what he does we could probably even draft someone better, there’s no need to sign this guy to anything but a reasonable contract

I honestly would have no issue if they let Schultz walk. I think you only play big dollars to the Kittles and Kelce’s of the world.

Michael Gallup, ..Dalton Schultz...and Cedrick Wilson are all due to be free agents in 2022.

Ditto for Kazee, Kearse, Hooker, LVE, and Williams ...

wow, i did not realize we have so many key players due in FA next offseason.

Don't worry. Our front office is on it.

12m APY is likely a 4th round compensatory pick. He's a good player but we can't afford to spend so much on a players whose complimentary to our receivers and running back rather than the main attraction.

Personally both Jarwin and Schultz are jags. Both could be replaced with hungry guys from the college ranks.
Neither block well in line. Jarwin can't block at all in the open. With this offense, I would change my thought process on what I was looking for in a TE and draft one closer to a Jay Novechek type and draft one as a blocker. Then I would find a 300+ one that could play FB/TE/Hback, etc for me to use as needed as a specialist.
I think the modern NFL is going towards more and more specialist with all-round guys as the starters, but TE as more WR than blockers.

I would love to see Schultz extended, but not at 8M per year. If he is getting paid that much let him go somewhere else and draft a guy just like him in the draft super cheap (4-6th rounds).
I would love to get him at 8mill per year. (drop Jarwins 4 mill at the same time) 12mill now that would be tough to swallow. I like him and think he does a nice job finding the little soft spots but I don't know that he is anything special talent wise. He is a nice safety net for Dak but I do think a lot of guys could do well in that role. I think you could sign Zach Ertz next year for 8 or less and he could do the same thing.

I would pass on that my friend. He’s playing well, no doubt about it. But that is paying average talent a premium price.
That's fine. Nothing wrong with disagreeing. But what about it is overpaying?
Most players never play out their deals, especially when teams backload cap hits that have high base and little prorated signing bonus left.

The deal can be 4, 9.5, 10, 12.5, 14 for cap hits. With an out after year 2 if he fails to live up to his deal.

Now I think 10mil per is probably too high too, maybe settle for 8-9mil per, but cap hits can be played with to make the numbers work.

I don't see him as average. Elite or great? Nope. But those guys are entering the mid teens on deals signed a year or two back.

As always it depends on the numbers, but of we are picking and choosing there are some guys on defense I'm probably more concerned about. I hope we can move things around and get a few of these guys back.

5-6 million, but I’m not extending him unless it’s on my terms.
Give Jarwin the season to develop just as Shultz had last year. Maybe Jarwin gets to run some of the same plays as the #1 TE option at some point. Jarwin is already signed. No need to rush things on Shultz unless very favorable.

Jarwin and Shultz are nice players that should only be signed for modest deals. They are a product of the offense not the other way around. We couldn't live without Witten then Jarwin plays even better. We couldn't live without Jarwin then Shultz plays even better. We don't need these guys. They are JAGS. Just keep drafting their replacements. Spend the money on talented guys that you can lock into short term deals.

Jarwin and Schultz should not be mentioned in the same sentence.

Schultz is an above average complete starting TE. Jarwin is a limited downfield threat part timer.

Can we release Jarwin?
After this season they can cut/trade him and take a $2M hit for the rest of his signing bonus. Keeping him (assuming contract isn't touched) would be a $6.25M cap hit.

Safe to assume that he's gone in 2022.

Problem for Schultz is I don’t think what he is good at travels.

He’s good at his job but he’s like the 5th or 6th option.

If a team signed him for 12 million and wanted him in a larger role I think they’d be a little disappointed.

He’s a product of the system in a lot of ways.
While I agree, some team may think differently
The advantage of addressing it now is you might get a better deal. But it’s not gonna be cheap
The Henry comparison is close but Henry had done it for 4 straight years and for his production I think Henry is over paid
I’d love to keep Schultz but I think if they plan on keeping him you get it done now which means after the season you trade Jarwin
I don’t think two TE on second contracts is a great plan

I think they do. He actually was pretty awesome in PS before he got hurt.

I try to trade Jarwin right before the draft.
I’d love to extend Schultz now and trade Jarwin right before the draft
I like McKeon potential

Thank you brother, this is good news. We need to keep Schultz. He's become a really nice relief valve and is nice in open space. Although he seemed determined to give the ball to Carolina yesterday lol

The system certainly helps, but he’s still doing the work. Going on two years now. With and without Dak.

He won’t come cheap.

but also with zeke, and coop, and gallup and lamb. i like the guy, but the attn around him certainly offers some choice opportunities.
