I remember after Quincy was released, Shanahan was quoted that he was hoping Romo was the one that was going to be available.joseephuss;1673654 said:That was in 2003 when Shanahan made the offer. Would he be willing to stick with that a year later?
We just don't know and fortunately at this point it does not matter.

Several times I've heard Parcells say that Sean Payton wanted Romo to start over Quincy Carter. Parcells says that he refused to do it because he didn't think Romo was ready for it then.Nors;1673788 said:I'm not sure where I read it but I heard some on the staff wanted to start Romo over QC and Chutch in 2003.

Undaunted Romo: My time will come
BY BRIAN NIELSEN, Sports Editor
IRVING, Texas -- Through all the Dallas Cowboys quarterback controversy talk, Tony Romo was hardly mentioned.
Eastern Illinois fans last week might have been the only ones asking why their former star who began the season as Dallas' No. 2 was pushed aside by commentators arguing whether the aging Vinny Testaverde or former baseball player Drew Henson should be the starter.
No Keyshawn Johnson, Romo did not make noise once he was delegated from backup quarterback and starting holder for place kicks to seemingly out of the equation when Henson got to start last week's Thanksgiving game against the Chicago Bears.
"I think basically they had to find out what they have in him," Romo said of Henson. "If you're paying him that much, you have to give him a shot. With me not making as much money, they have the luxury to wait for me. But I think I'll get my chance and when I do I'll be ready."
Romo, who signed with Dallas as a free agent rookie in 2003, can only guess that he will get his chance.
No promises or explanation of demotions have come from head coach Bill Parcells or quarterbacks coach Sean Payton, the EIU passing record holder.
"You're a professional now," said Romo, who broke Payton's school record for touchdown passes on his way to winning the 2002 Walter Payton Trophy as NCAA Division I-AA's top player. "They don't need to call you in and make you feel better. They're in the business to win.
"It's a money business sometimes. It's cutthroat. I'm not down in the dumps at all. I've just got to be patient."
After all, the reviews were not that good for Henson last week when his first NFL start resulted in a 4-for-12, 31-yard passing game including an interception returned 45 yards by R.W. McQuarters for the Bears' lone touchdown.
Testaverde, who started Dallas' first 10 games, had to replace Henson to solidify the Cowboys' 21-7 win.
"That's the thing in the NFL," Romo said. "It will humble you in a hurry. In situations like that you don't know how you're going to play."
Or you don't know whether you will play or not.
Testaverde figures to start Dallas next game on Monday at Seattle, but who knows from there.
"I'm not sure what's going to happen next week," Romo said. "I'm not sure who will be the backup."
It is hard to win or lose a backup job in practice when you don't have much chance to show your stuff during regular season game week preparation.
"When you're the starter you do," Romo said. "When you're not the starter you don't get as many reps. That's why it's hard to come in as the backup."
Chicago is the place where quarterbacks are exchanged like handshakes.
Chad Hutchinson is to start for the Bears on Sunday, at least until this week's acquisition Jeff George reads the playbook.
A year ago Hutchinson was Quincy Carter's backup at Dallas. Both of those quarterbacks were sent packing, seemingly making things look so good in the preseason for Romo who was behind only the 41-year old Testaverde.
Now some might think Romo's chances to play would have been better to be sent elsewhere as was the case for Hutchinson, who is getting his chance to start.
"No, I don't ever think like that," Romo said. "I'm a firm believer that there is a reason why I'm here. Eventually I'll get a chance.
"The thing is I'm still confident in my abilities. My time will come and when it does, I'll be ready."
