How would you feel about an 11-5 no playoffs season?

It would be a waste to me. Nothing guarantees success for the next season based on this years results. It really doesn't work that way. Look at the Panthers and Falcons for example. Two years ago, the Falcons made it to the NFC Championship, Carolina was 12-4 last year. This year, both suck, although ATL can still make the playoffs this year.

So, in my opinion it is a wasted year. One more wasted year for our QB. Such a grind year in and year out and it would be terrible if we miss the playoffs this season.

Anyone disappointed in a 11-5 season with no playoffs should be disappointed in the playoff structure and not the team.

11-5 is a great season.

Playoff structure is fine however I'd be pissed if we went 11-5 and had to sit out of the tournament just because of the games during the season we should have won

I would most likely call it significant progress, depending on how the remaining games shake out. Its not just the record to me, but how we play that has to also be considered.

I think for Garrett to be validated we need for this year to be not just a winning season, but a building block going forward. I would like to see us make sound decisions going forward and continue to improve talent as the opportunity arises.

I'm all about fixing the defense, but the players have to be there in order to justify selecting them. Drafting a defensive player high won't guarantee success.

I would like to see Dez and Murray resigned, but of course you can't and shouldn't vastly overpay to keep either one of them. There has to be a point where it just isn't worth it to keep them. I have stated before, I like Witten and am a big fan of him, but we are WAY overpaying for what he currently brings to the table. I would really like to see some of the cap room used on Witten to be used somewhere else to improve the team. I don't care if it is to upgrade RT, replace Leary and keep Leary for cheap, talented depth, anywhere along the defensive line, top tier DB, or to pay R. McClain to keep him around

Great post. Atlanta 2012 (NFC Championship), Carolina (2013) are great examples of how you can't on anything year to year in the NFL.

I would be really disappointed I think with the parity and the year to year nature of this league if would be sad. I think with romo age and contract situation of different players it may be hard to have as good a record next year I just think in this league the way it is you need to win when you the opportunity so would view it as another wasted chance. Romo dosnt have may more season in him
and franchise qb are so hard to find.

It would suck royally, but it would indicate progress and Garrett would deserve to be extended. A coach who can win 11 games consistently is going to be in the playoffs a lot.

I think in that case we can say we did our part and next step is to leave no doubt and win the division. I wouldn't be heart broken if we don't make the playoffs, as I don't think we are ready to make a serious run anyways and if we get lucky and get the 5th seed, we probably will end u in Atlanta and get a win, but after that its onto GB and I don't think we can hold up against them.

one thing it would do is shut up all the garrett haters...

Sign Garrett for one year and see if he can make the playoffs the next year. 11-5 definitely shows improvement, but ultimately the goal of football teams is to win the superbowl. You can't make the superbowl if you can't get into the playoffs. Consider it a sort of 'head coach franchise'. Let's see if he can duplicate his success and make the playoffs the next year. If not, time to move on.

Resign Garrett for one year.............hahahahaha That's a good one.:lmao2:

What makes people think he would be willing to do that?

That's called lame duck status...and any coach in their right mind wouldn't go there

Id be happy. I expected 6 or 7 wins but I would love to feel the atmosphere of a playoff game. Maybe next year though.

I will take 11-5 and no playoffs. Does anyone think we can go far in the playoffs with this defense?

If you keep most of the talent on offense and look to build the defense in the offseason then that is a lot better than the last few years.

That should be the plan....But from everything I've been hearing they plan to let everyone walk away in free agency....Murray, Carter, Selvie, Spencer. And this is what kills me about the Cowboys. They never seem to resign their high draft choices. M. Jenkins, Felix Jones, M. Bennett....the list just keeps going. And all their doing is spinning their wheels...going no where.

And who exactly is going to be in a rush to grab Garrett after one decent regular season, 3 mediocre regular seasons, but yet again missing the playoffs?

I think a real solid question would be, "How would you feel about 10-6 and no play-offs?"

With a follow up of, "What's the real difference4 between 10-6 and 8-8?"

Dez?

and the guy's you mentioned should be allowed to walk.
Murray? Yes. He is going to cost too much.
Carter? Yes. He's an enigma. Move on.
Selvie? Yes. Get more talented and get younger.
Spencer? Yes. See Selvie.

Garrett fans aren't going to like hearing this but it would most likely be his only offer. If someone wants to come in and pay Garrett a huge amount of money to leave, I'll help him pack.

I'd like to see us take a guy we like anywhere from the 3rd round on down, and let Vaughan/Weeden battle it in camp for that backup spot. Loser is off the roster. Assuming, of course, no really talented veteran backup becomes available somehow.

Sanchez is a FA after the season.:flagwave:

to be fair jenins was in decline, felix jones was just a bust and bennett was probably a couple of years to early.
As for the crop you mention this year-is carter worth keeping?i would certainly take durant given the choice.spencer and selvie?Hasnt every1 been sayng all season we need to improve the dline?Arent they our weakest point currently?
Murray?we that comes down to how much he wants and how much we want to pay

I will say that if the the coordinators go I would prefer a different HC than Garrett; I like what he has done this year but believe his process is better run with other people pulling the strings.

It would be a disappointment because we're once again in control of our own destiny, for once I'd like to see us seize the moment.
