How would you feel about an 11-5 no playoffs season?

I think it sucks. that's how I feel. after putting up with this team the last three years and all they had to do was win nine games in each season to get a playoff spot and now if they win eleven games and still not make the playoffs that just sucks even more.

I would be happy with it, but certainly not content. There's nothing you can do about going 11-5 and missing the playoffs. I tend to take the Nick Saban approach about football, worry on doing the best you can do and don't worry about the results because you can't control the results and if you do the best you can do, the results will come anyway.

To me, this season is the perfect litmus test for Garrett as a head coach. It's a talented, but flawed team. A good coach can manage double digit wins. An average coach goes 8-8 or 9-7. An poor coach doesn't even get 8 wins. Right now we are at 9-4, so the arrow is pointing up.

I would rather see us legitimately progress and miss the playoffs than for us to regress and make the playoffs thru smoke and mirrors along with some luck.

Four years and no playoffs would mean the coach has to go to me especially when it was his fault we did not make it his first three years with idiotic game / clock management.

well we know that it not is going to happen. garrett will get a new contract and missing the playoffs will continue as usual.

You know its really saying something that a team with a defense as poor as ours is still in contention for a top playoff spot this late in the season. I think that says more about the NFL right now than the Cowboys, but I suppose we will find out if the situation is sustainable soon enough.

It's exactly what the NFL wants. look at the NFC south.

I didn't say it was going to happen. The thread asked how each would feel about 11 - 5 and no playoffs so I posted how I would feel. If it were my decision, the ONLY way I would keep Garrett is with at least one playoff WIN. No way would I keep him if we do not even reach the playoffs but everyone knows that is Jerry's decision and Jerry has proven he is happy to be mediocre as long as he is comfortable with the coach.

I'm not much of a thread starter but I really am interested in the responses.

Obviously nobody is going to be happy about missing the playoffs. That's not the point of this thread. I'm talking about how you would feel about the state of the team and it's immediate future.

Let's say the Cowboys win 2 of the next 3 games. Beat the Eagles, lose to the Colts, beat the Commanders. Or whatever way you want to do it. But they lose the tiebreakers for the division and wild card. They sit at home at 11-5. This is a pretty rare happening in the NFL.

What's your reaction? Is this the same team that can't close the deal and just misses the playoffs? Like every other year in recent memory? The record doesn't matter, all that matters is they came up short again?

Or was it just a flukey season, the team went 5-2 down the stretch, clear progress has been made and this is merely a case of some bad luck? No 11-5 team should ever be sitting at home watching a 7-9 division winner? This was a clear step forward towards 2015?

I say 11-5 and no playoffs. You say?

I ask because I really don't know.

It would be easier to swallow if you didn't have to worry about losing Marinelli, Linehan, Murray, (I doubt Dez but his contract's on the table), and Romo's age/health..... who knows what this team will look like next year? Seriously. Maybe you upgrade talent on D but lose Marinelli and maybe your O doesn't run as efficiently because of missing parts. Who knows? That is what SUCKS. If I knew we could keep the coaching staff and O intact AND Upgrade the talent on D and Romo would play at his optimum level next year... then yes, it would be easier pill to swallow.

Interesting take. I don't know that I fully agree with the school of thought, however, I certainly understand that perspective.

Not too good, mostly because the clock is ticking for Romo (and Witten) and there is no guarantee about how close we get next year.

It would suck to miss the playoffs, but 11-5 and young is a pretty good place to be.

This Cowboys team has already exceeded expectations; and by a wide margin. Finishing 11-5 and not making the playoffs would be a cruel blow to the players and fans; but for anybody to suggest Garrett should be fired after this season is really missing the mark.

If Garrett should be let go for missing the playoffs with 11 wins; I guess the Falcons should extend coach Mike Smith's contract if Atlanta gets in at 6-10, right??
