Have difficulty believing Luepke's ready to contribute. Have no difficulty believing McKeon will contribute. Certainly Luepke has the higher ceiling, but he had all of training camp to distinguish himself, and did not apparently. Then, he certainly had himself a night on Saturday agaisnt LVR's 2s and 3s, but... 2s and 3s. Think there may be some overreaction as a result. To be fair, I do think you have to be strategic, of course, and really do a team-by-team analysis of the handful of teams that would have a genuine FB role in their offenses... which of them if any are looking for someone right now, or do they have someone already they're satisfied with. Want to keep Luepke, absolutely. But feel more of a need for 2023 to keep McKeon.
Okay, okay.

I'm here to take my lumps.

Who wants to go first?

But just let me say... I'm pumped that I was wrong. I always wanted to see Luepke force his way on to the team. One of those occasions when my head was wrong, my heart was right. :D

Actually, unless Luepke is gonna play FB, to me, he should have been cut. I think Davis is better and proven. Luepke had a decent game at best. But...maybe he's playing FB. Didn't understand keeping him.

He's going to be doing a lot for the Cowboys. How did you guys not see this in his game?

Here's what I was right about...

I told you (universal you) that McCarthy has always always always had a backfield big boy on the roster anytime he was directing the offense, with the lone exception being the season he was fired.

And yes, the inference of that... though I didn't technically predict it would happen... is that McCarthy would follow suit this time, too.

He did that.

(I was sensing they were going to end up bringing someone in from the outside since it didn't appear in training camp that Luepke was all that impressive based on reports, and based on how little time he was getting in preseason games.)

Guess what. If Leupke had shown more in scrimmages and practices the coaches would have played him more in preseason games 1 & 2

Hunter is the mother pet cat of the decade around here. Reality is going to hit:
Dallas won't put him on their 53 and no other team will either.

Book it. Lock it down. Put it in 5 inch headlines. You all are fixated on something that isn't there.

But hey, there's a good chance he makes the practice squad.
Time to eat some crow.

I take all credit...I'm currently leaning back with my arms folded, and giving it my best Barney Fife cocky looking sneer.
Yep you really nailed it, hanging your hat on Fisher's jock was a great move.

Mere fact he made the team means we are running FB because he's not touching the ball as running back.

Luepke is going to be our Kyle Juszczyk (49ers). He can line up in multiple places on our offense and provide a hammer for short yardage. Malik Davis is a liability every time he has to pass protect. Do we really need a RB who is going to get the QB killed? Chances are that Malik Davis hits the practice squad because there is not a team out there adding him to their 53 man roster. Maybe he can get on the practice squad and starting learning how to block.

That's why I think we will use him like the 49ers use Kyle Juszczyk. Use him as a FB when we need one. People forget that we were using OLinemen as FBs recently so it is a position that we use. Give him a few rushing attempts every once in a while. But more importantly give him short passes out of the backfield and watch him plow into people for yardage. We need someone to bring a little physical play on offense.

Hunter is very Moose like besides Mooses best asset, his blocking. Hunter is a nice option out of the backfield and is much more nimble running the ball. I know he can't run block like the Moose (no one can) but if we better production than our 3rd TE gave us out of the backfield it's a huge win.
