Spags just on ticket said they get a 5th in 2006 if Hunter plays this year, a 7th in 2007 if he smells it up.

Makes the team or just "plays".

I would think going from a seventh up to a fifth is full of all kinds of contingencies.

Whatever the stipulations involved, I'm pulling for him.

Better hurry Al, the bandwagon is leaving. I can save you a seat but you need to make like a bread truck man.

If it means we get a fifth round pick, I will wave a towel for Hunter and his no talent butt. :)

We got a pretty good player with our fifth round pick this past April.

Thread hijack alert! Move it along, nothing to see here.

(I presume you are talking about Greg Ellis or LaRoi Glover. Why do I sense a debate about the defensive front soon to follow?)

I'm surprised he did not mention an opening at CB and a certain vet FA.;)

This has to be the silliest statement I have read yet concerning this trade.

So Coach Parcells has a vendetta against Hunter now and is trading him despite the team's best interest?

Get a grip, people.
It's not the silliest statement anymore. His response to this was much sillier.

Hunter to get trade he requested

Jets will send a draft choice to Cowboys

02:16 PM CDT on Thursday, July 14, 2005

By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING -- It took a little while, but it appears cornerback Pete Hunter is going to get his wish to play for another team.

The Cowboys have agreed to trade the disgruntled cornerback to the New York Jets for a conditional sixth-round draft choice that could improve to a fifth-round choice, if he meets certain incentives, two club sources said Thursday.

Hunter, who flew to New York on Wednesday, met with Jets’ officials on Thursday morning and passed a physical exam.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to be on the field," said Hunter, who has three career interceptions, "and I'm happy about having a chance to come home and play and all of the good stuff that comes with that."

The Cowboys were expected to use Hunter at free safety in the dime defense, which uses six defensive backs.

If Hunter is traded to the Jets, then Keith Davis, Izell Reese and Lynn Scott will compete for playing time in the nickel and dime defenses.

Hunter, a native of Atlantic City, N.J., was a fifth-round selection in 2002. He won the starting job in training camp last season after Mario Edwards signed a free-agent deal with Tampa Bay. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the third game against Washington and did not play again.

Hunter became upset with the Cowboys in March, when they signed free-agent cornerback Anthony Henry and gave him a $10 million signing bonus. The Cowboys wanted Hunter to consider moving to free safety, where he could compete for a starting job, but he balked.

Hunter, a restricted free agent, didn't get any nibbles in free agency and signed a one-year tender with the club for the minimum salary of $655,000. He participated in the club's off-season program and its three-day mini-camp.

Supplemental draft today: The NFL's supplemental draft is today, but the Cowboys aren't expected to make any selections. Two of the more attractive players are USC defensive tackle Manuel Wright and ex-Clemson receiver Roscoe Crosby.

Staff Writer Todd Archer contributed to this report.

ok you think Parcells really not selling us out huh?

facts of sell out:

Reggie Swinton: Traded to Green Bay>What was the deal?> If Packers kept Reggie Swinton for one week without cutting him the Cowboys get a 6th Round Draft Choice>The Outcome> Packers released him>What happen?> He went to the Detroit Lions>What was the lost for the Cowboys?> A valuable kick-off returner...

Derek Ross: A third-round conerback cut in the middle of the season> What people say?> So I don't care, look at him now he can't fit in with no team> What's the deal?> The deal is coming into that season he was a projected starter on the other side of Newman> What he could do with the Cowboys?> He played in a system bend but don't break, which he baited Wide Receivers and pick off passes...

Mario Edwards: Did not sign back> WHY?> Because Parcells thought he had a steady conerback core...

Quincy Carter: Just simply released Quincy Carter> What people saying?> he smoke pot he this he's that...>But what's the reallity check of it> He took us to the playoffs... <MESSAGE> You see the fans and the front office problems is guess what if yall judge off-the-field Characters you won't get no where.. Quincy was a contributer...

Antonio Bryant: Traded him to the Cleveland Browns> Why?> Don't know> For Who?> Quincy "The inconsistent catching wide receiver slash consistent injury prone" Morgan...NEED I SAY MORE..

Mr. Hostile, I believe you are correct.

The two dumbest teams right now is my teams:::

1. Lakers- Trading Caron Butler_Chucky Atkin/or Deven George just for Kwame Brown> So so dumb...
2. Cowboys- Trading Pete Hunter who is a potential straight up starter in New York Jets just for a late Round which is probably 6th or 7th... How dumb is that and he was drafted in the 5th...

Parcells is selling Cowboys out... Yeah Pete Hunter wanted to leave but you could trade em to anybody you want for a better draft choice than that atleast a 4th if not a 3rd...

1) NBA...couldnt care less

2)

But at least he does have some talent and will still be in the league. He should prosper in NY.
He will still be in the league, all rite, WG, for a long while, even if he does nothing because Herm Edwards, an ex-defensive back himself, loves to ditz around with secondary projects.

Pete is a flat out clone of a CB named Jamie Henderson the Jets drafted in the 4th round in '01.... 6'2", 202 out of Georgia..same rangy body type, mentioned sometimes as possible free safety. Coach Edwards spent mega time with this kid, predicting greatness that never came to pass, and not getting much more out of him than specials and dime D.

Then the kid almost kills himself riding a motorcycle w/o a little over a year ago. He was not under contact at the time of the accident, but had a qualifying offer on the table. The Jets re-signed him so his med bills would get paid last year, then released him this February. Word was Herm was all torn up over it.

Hunter is so much like Henderson in style, size, 'tude, it's uncanny. I think he'll be around even if Abraham doesn't retire and Law gets signed.

Pete couldn't be walking into a better situation. Herm's next DB project. All Hunter fans out there need not worry.

LT, I was wondering when you would show up.

So, what's the skinny on this deal from the Jets side of the house? You got any early feedback?

Jets Acquire CB Pete Hunter for Conditional Draft Selection

The New York Jets announced Thursday the acquisition of cornerback Pete Hunter from the Dallas Cowboys for a conditional draft selection. The announcement was made by Jets’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Terry Bradway.

Hunter, 25, was originally drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2002 Draft out of Virginia Union. The 6-2 212-pound native of Atlantic City, NJ has played in 30 regular season games, making five starts, and has recorded 43 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, nine passes defended and two fumbles recovered.

"I am excited about coming home and playing for the Jets,” said Hunter. “I grew up watching the Green and White, this is a great opportunity. I've heard great things about playing for Coach Edwards and I'm really looking forward to joining my new teammates. I'm ready to get to work and contribute to the team."

"Pete is a player we identified a few months ago as someone who will provide depth to our secondary,” said Terry Bradway. “He's a big, physical corner, who will contribute on defense and special teams. We believe he has upside, and that our coaches can put him in position to make plays."

There are 86 players currently on the Jets’ roster. Players are scheduled to report for training camp on July 28, with the first practice scheduled for 8:45 a.m. on July 29.

ABQ, I haven't had time to see what Jets fans think..I just got home and checked the Redzone and saw it and then came over here.

But I can GUESS the reaction, considering the lousy overall Jets DB play late last season....very, very hopeful.

I'm happy for Pete. Coach Edwards will take good care of him, and with the Jets pass rush, no corner is ever as exposed as consistently as ours have been here.

Well, I like Hunter and I elluded to the fact earlier that I felt this might be a blessing in disgues for him.

I think he has a golden opportunity here. Edwards made his name as a DB coach with the Vikes. I think he's in the best possible place for his situation with the Jets.

I hope he does well.

Post and update once you have a chance to go check out the hard hat guys on the Jets board.
