A thought that may be overlooked:

Chris Canty was gotten in late round four.

if we give Hunter up for another four, maybe that could mean more "canty's"

I wonder what we are getting ? I hope its a conditional pick that can move up if he starts..pro bowl...something...lol.

I think he has great potentail, so lets maximize that with the trade.

Thank you Inman. I have never understood that argument. what difference does it matter when you use the draft pick?
The key is to try and get value with that pick. If they use next year's 5th or 6th on a player that they like now, how can that be so bad?

I agree with you both, mostly. The only drawback with having fewer picks in next year's draft is that you have fewer options for moving up or around if a player from the top of your board starts to drop into the middle rounds.

Ross is relevant because he, along with Hunter, Bryant and most of the players drafted pre-Parcells are gone.

Not just hurt. Not on the practice squad.

Gone. Off the team.

That shows that we had no idea what and whom we were drafting. Yet fans are complaining because we have gotten rid of players they were familiar with.

I have a problem with a player who puts himself before the needs of the team. We need a FS and he refused to comply. I have a big problem with that.

OK, I still do not see the relivance. Ross is gone because he needed to be gone. Bryant is in Cleveland and who knows what his future will hold. He was not a fit here. Hunter will be gone because he too did not fit.

If your angry at Hunter because he was unwilling to be a FS, well, that is your choice. I have stated that I too wanted him to be a fit there. This is a business and I would think that Hunter made a business decision. I know that the Cowboys did in trying to trade him. That's really all it is. It's a business decision.

I wish him well.

There's nothing wrong with wishing Hunter had tried to move to FS. There's nothing wrong with having a little grudge against him for not doing what the team needed.

There's nothing wrong with Hunter wanting to be a CB because that's more money. He only has a short window to make it so why not try to make more money in what is on the average a relatively short career.

There's nothing wrong with Parcells cutting his losses and getting something for nothing which is probably what we would get if we kept Hunter around this year. There's no guarantee he would even make the team people.

So for the sake of all it's a win/win/win for the Cowboys, Jets and Hunter to be traded for an appropriate pick.

As someone said it's only business; it's nothing personal.

Good luck to you Petey. Hope you have a long successful career. Hope we get a 2nd day gem in next year's draft who becomes a long time starter for the Cowboys.

Here's to everyone. Cheers.

BTW I'm off to CR in a few with my oldest son so hopefully I won't be away from the computer long. For those few of you who can't stand me....I'll be back.

So much for that idea.

I dunno, Hos, even though J-JT does seem to be wired into Valley Ranch these days, this might be some deliberate disinformation from the brain (t)rust... after all, ol' Jean-Jacques was the same guy who told us the Boys had some interest in Crosby a while back...

I guess we'll know for sure in the next day or so...

I agree Bear. I am way past the point of thinking any of these writers have a real good idea of what goes on in the collective minds of Bill and Jerrah.

Pretty good detective work. That thought has some merit. Not saying you're right, but at least it would make sense.

Or make way to sign a veteren S, who was it we just worked out, Robinson?

This trade is happening for one reason and one reason only. Both teams feel like the trade will make them better. The Jets get a player they think will help them. Dallas gets a pick out of a player that it deems was expendable, for whatever reason.

The cornerback position was starting to look pretty crowded. I predict that Dallas will cut several players this year that will go on to be decent players for other teams. It is looking like Dallas' talent pool finally is starting to fill up.

Whether this trade ultimately turns out to be a good decision, or not, remains to be seen. It would be nice to see us get a good player with the draft pick acquired in this deal, or to bundle it with another pick/player to move up and get a player we want, like we did CANTY this year.

Guys that cross Bill - are gone

Hunter is gone and there's another guy publicly questioned Parcells that may be next out of Dodge.

To Hunter's credit, he showed up for all the OTA's and did what he was asked to do to this point. While he may have been vocal about his desire to play CB at one point, he also made comments later that essentially retracted those comments wrt the move to FS.

That behavior alone puts Pete in a different category from Ross and Bryant.

IMO, BP did what was best for the kid and the team.

I'm not too heartbroken about this turn of events. Hunter was (and to a large degree still is) a project. The Cowboys have had so many projects in key positions for the last several years, I'm not sure if I've been watching a football team or a science fair.

Thread hijack alert! Move it along, nothing to see here.

(I presume you are talking about Greg Ellis or LaRoi Glover. Why do I sense a debate about the defensive front soon to follow?)

Hunter did state that he was willing to play where ever the team needed him.....so I don't buy that Pete is not a team player.

Bill stated that Pete wasn't going to audition for the FS spot.....strickly corner and nickel package.

What I see is that Bill and company will sign that washed up old FS Robinson.......we all know Bill likes his vets.....

I wish the best for Pete in NY......at least he will get a fair shot there....If Pete Hunter wins the starting job in NY....I predict that he will have similar numbers to Henry.

The two dumbest teams right now is my teams:::

1. Lakers- Trading Caron Butler_Chucky Atkin/or Deven George just for Kwame Brown> So so dumb...
2. Cowboys- Trading Pete Hunter who is a potential straight up starter in New York Jets just for a late Round which is probably 6th or 7th... How dumb is that and he was drafted in the 5th...

Parcells is selling Cowboys out... Yeah Pete Hunter wanted to leave but you could trade em to anybody you want for a better draft choice than that atleast a 4th if not a 3rd...

Late round doesnt mean 6th or 7th buddy. It could mean anything on day two, such as a 4th, or 5th.

I think he had more than a fair shot here. If he agreed to compete at free safety, he pretty much could win the job sight unseen compared to the others we are planning to trot out there. But he wanted the glory (and money) that goes along with playing cornerback.

Had he done as the team asked, he would still be here. He practically asked to leave. That is not the same as being denied an opportunity.

And did he not get that chance last year? Obviously he was not impressive enough to keep us from spending big money on not one, but two cornerbacks this offseason.

If Pete Hunter wins the starting job in NY....I predict that he will have similar numbers to Henry.

If so, we made two big mistakes: trading him and giving Henry a huge contract.

I can see you don't appear to have much faith in the team's ability to judge talent.

This has to be the silliest statement I have read yet concerning this trade.

So Coach Parcells has a vendetta against Hunter now and is trading him despite the team's best interest?

Get a grip, people.
