Hurd Couldn't get Separation

Either Crayton, TG, or Hurd is gone. If we don't re-sign Crayton or TG doesn't come back, he could stick around.

But I think we've seen enough of him to know he'll never be a solid #2.

This is funny. Austin has shown far less than Hurd but you think he will be around? Come on. LOL Hurd will be around for a while, he is a pretty good reciever, he just needs to learn how to get seperation and he will have a complete game. If you think Austin will be around because he can return kicks you are crazy. I bet we draft a kick returner next year and let Austin go. Austin barely made the team this year. Hurd was the clear #4 going into the season. Hell, if Romo would have been on his game Hurd would have had a long reception. Face it, Romo had a off game yesterday.

Sam Hurd is 10-1.......

I had to...........it's all WG's fault. :)

As mentioned earlier, Hurd would have had a touchdown if not for a poorly underthrown ball. The ball he did catch could have went for a long gainer if he just got by that one man. Forgot the details of the play but noticed he had alot of grass if he got away from him.

Romo threw the ball behid him so he had to slow down to catch it. If Romo would have led him it would have been a huge gain if not a TD.

I am betting this is TG last season he will have Micro Fracture surgery once the season is over

Romo needs a little more of the blame for Hurd's quiet day. One catch he had Romo threw it where he had to basically fall down to catch it, so he had no chance to run afterward, and then Romo had him for a wide open TD and underthrew it.

I don't assign much blame to Romo. Understand his pinkie finger got hurt early in the game and he wasn't able to grasp the football like he wants to/usually does to get it to where he wants to go. It was reported this morning that xrays of his finger was negative.

Oh definitely, he's got great hands and good body control. He's a smart kid that knows how to be a receiver. He runs nice routes and he's great at the LOS getting off the defender.

But he's just not quite physically gifted enough to get separation consistently and be a successful WR. If you combine Austin's physical ability and Hurd's hands and head, you'd have a damn good WR.

he just needs to learn it and I believe he'll eventually get it down. The one thing that hinders your speculation of him be gone next season is he is one of our best special teamers that can play WR. He has to much value in that regard to let him go.

Was listening to Mickey Spagnola this morning and he mentioned one of the reasons Romo was holding the ball was that Hurd couldn't get separation. Think he then said that we missed Crayton in this game. I thought Hurd was supposed to be faster then Crayton or maybe it had nothing to do with speed but more to do with Crayton's experience at WR.

No mention was made about Miles Austin (who caught 2 passes) and who I thought was supposedly faster then Hurd.

Anyway hopefully Crayton back and ready to play against the Packers cause we'll need him. Obviously Glenn wouldn't be ready to play now but hopefully maybe he can get on the field against the Eagles or at least against the Panthers.

There may of been specific plays where Hurd was the primary and he did not get seperation. I would have to listen to Spags comments but if he said what you are saying I don't agree with him at all.

Jets have a very good secondary and Romo was missed a bunch of people wide open.

What Hurd lacks can't be learned.

I would like to think Glenn will be back next year, but with his injury and age both working against him, I'll believe it when I see him back on the field.

There's more to getting seperation than just speed.

Exactly... the two are mutually exclusive...

Steve Largent couldn't outrun my Grandma but we was always open. A slow, calculating #1 that was very successful. Michael Irvin was like that too, although he was a bit faster than Largent...

A good, legit #1 WR doesn't just run routes, he sets up things for later. A juke here, a stop and go there. He gives the DB a lot to think about and gives feedback to the QB and OC on the defensive tendencies.

I don't think they're always mutually exclusive. It depends on the route. And when someone says "physical ability" it's not just about straight ahead burner speed.

I meant in respect to a WR with speed means he can always get separation. That is not the case. It can be speed, it can be quickness, it can be savvy. The perfect WR has all three...

Too many people are enamored with speed and think it automatically translates to getting open... it doesn't...

Gotcha.

See Alexander Wright.

I just don't see what Hurd really brings to the table...he isn't overly quick, not very strong, no one has really commented about his route running abilities, so let's just assume they are adequate and he has good hands. I mean really, what would we be losing here?

thank you

There were opportunities for Hurd yesterday if Romo had just got him the ball.

TO seems to be getting along well with Hurd, every single TD celebration they look for each other, this is going to help Hurd a lot on his career, his got a great tutor. Just like TO with Jerry Rice. Not that hurd is the next TO but he will be good.

See Alexander Wright.

That is one of the players that Skip Bayless said was gay...

I will never forget his radio show on KTCK when a caller asked him how he knew this. He said he just knew. He said Wright was a very sensitive guy that just didn't realize his sexuality yet. That's Skip Bayless' sports talk show in a nutshell.

I get tired of Skip Bayless threads here, but most have no idea how outrageous he can be...

I've worked with him a couple of times and he is one of the most pompous arses you could ever meet...

He should stick to keeping his mouth shut and just enjoy his brother's (Rick Bayless) cooking...
