Based on what? Over the past 5 years Dak has a better completion percentage 66.0 vs 65.2, better YPA 7.7 vs 7.5, better Int/att 1.7 vs 1.8 better TD:INT ratio 2.65 vs 2.58, better QB rating 97.3 vs 96.0 with Dak playing 3 less games. Dak outperforms Stafford in nearly every stat with Stafford having 7 more years to hone his craft. If you compare Stafford's first 69 game the gap is even bigger.

Some people just throw stuff out there with nothing to back it up....oh, except I forgot about the scientifically and statistically accurate eye test.

But Dak will want 35 and stafford counts 25M and that extra 10 M is going to take this defense from bottom to top 10 with all the availablre FAs we will be able to sign.....come on don't you see it!!! (sarcasm fully intended)

Yes but Dak was playing on a team that many said had the most talent in the NFL with high expectations.

its not a matter of clowning, although stafford at this point in his career comes close....but who gives this team a better chance? a 25M/year QB who is 33, 7-52 against teams with a winning record, 70-90 career record, 0-3 in the playoffs, injured the past two years with back issues (remember romo). and you take this over a 35M year QB, with much better statistics in any category you want to look at....so you say Dak hasnt' won anything, but is that the end of the book? he is done? he should just leave NFL because God knows if in 5 years you don't win it, you will never win it....right?

Jerry is on record saying that we would be hard to stop with two speedsters and that tells you he was playing fantasy football in his head....that's not how you put a team together...and Jerry is a gambler, he wanted another superbowl and he was willing to bet on long odds and gamble away and then he got worse as things got worse

Like I said in a previous post Jerry gave up one too many first round picks for Galloway. He was worth one number one pick, he was a terrific speed receiver but he and Troy Aikman only played one game together. Jerry was trying to prolong Aikman’s career. The retirement of Irvin and Novacek left us void of receivers. Rocket was a good receiver but he wasn’t a great receiver. When Aikman was released we couldn’t get the ball down the field to Galloway with the QBs and OL we had. Passing on Randy Moss two years earlier led to one mistake after another. We wouldn’t have ever made the trade for Galloway had we drafted Moss.

Stafford has a career 89.9 passer rating. Prescott has a career 97.3. Stafford has shown that he's capable of having some great seasons, but he's also shown he's capable of putting up some stinkers, worse than anything we've seen from Prescott.

Dalton was OK? so getting blown out against the likes of AZ, WFT twice, Ravens and losing to 5-10 team in the end of the season was OK to you? you felt the team was competitive against other teams starting QBs? that's what you are settling for? a QB that was able to beat three teams with their back up QB and needed 9 turnovers to do it.....that was OK?

Anyone that believes Matt Stafford is more talented than Dak is football dumb.
He does exactly zero things better as a QB than Dak.
He hasn't in the time they've both been QBs but most especially he does not now.


Since Dak entered the league he bests Stafford in wins by 10. --even with missing 11 games this year.

He has a higher win % by 61% to 45%.
His QBR is higher. 97/3 to 96.
His completion percentage is slightly higher on slightly deeper average pass attempts.
His air yardage is higher.
His TD to INT ratio is higher.
And he is better in every run metric.

If you compare their careers, Romo was a notch above Stafford. Stafford had some Romo-level seasons in his career, but he also had multiple Eli Manning-level seasons. Career numberswise, it looks like he's slightly better than Manning and a little worse than Romo.

If someone wants to point out that Manning won two Super Bowls (which they always do). That just goes to show that if the team is good enough, that level of quarterback is capable of getting the job done. And that includes Dak, whose numbers so far put him more in Romo's company than Manning's and Stafford's.

He's ridiculously talented and tough and has mostly played on horrible teams.

what is forward thinking about that? trade a pick to get a 33 year old washed up now injury prone QB...remember Romo in his last couple of years and his back problems. Plus, he is interception machine, with a dismal playoff record and a horrible record against teams with winning record (7-52).....and who is the upcoming talent? can you gaurantee he is going to turn out good? more than 90% of QBs drafted in round 2-7 fail to become starting QBs. 4 out 5 first round QBs fail to raise above average. Should we not draft one then (yes we did find Dak in the 4th), but its a big gamble when you already have a top 10 QB on your team..

I wouldn't give up any picks, not even a 7th rounder for stafford. we need all the picks and more to draft defense.

all valid points but this team is in trouble and some hard decisions have to be made. the roster and cap is depleted with overpaid players. Of course there are risks with lower rounds to find a QB , but there is an enormous risk in paying dak 40 mil for 5 years . He may tank as usual for players who get the big money , and there won't be enought cap to fix the D and OL.
Regarding stafford , his record under the lions explains why the lions are the worst team in the nfl all the time , so don't put all the blame on him. He is very accurate .
I also think gilbert or dalton could get better , so maybe we don't need stafford. Plus dak's record against winning teams is abysmal as well. probably 6-25 last few years or so.

Stafford had a few good teams in Detroit but he’s one of those QBs who just can’t seem to elevate the play of the players around him. He’s very productive but he reminds me some of Testaverde and Bledsoe a couple of very productive QBs who could never get their teams over the hump. I could see Stafford having some success with the teams you mentioned but I don’t see him getting them over the hump. I’m not a believer in Matt Stafford. Hard to believe in a QB who’s winning percentage is 20 games below 500. Tom Brady makes every team he plays for better. He elevates the play of his teammates and Staffird isn’t that type of QB. He’s a stat guy which will have plenty of teams interested.
