I’m still holding out hope that this guy is the future of Dallas. Sure, he didn’t play great in the preseason but that doesn’t mean much to me and he still feels like such an enigma. What I’d do is keep him as our backup and see if Dak can handle the pressure!! Keeping Lance on the sidelines doesn’t just make him better. It makes Dak be forced to play better. All I ask is don’t give up on Lance. Dak has gotten how much seasons and excuses? Don’t toss Lance away just yet!!

That’s Not 25-35 per year.

thats the total amount of the contract.

they might even offer a signing bonus. I.e. 10 mill

that lowers the Cap even more.

3-4 years. 7-8 mil per year.

very affordable When compared to mega millions Dak.
Trance will be lucky to make $25/hour somewhere next year.

I don't think that we know yet with Lance. The interceptions hadn’t been a problem for him until this game, and frankly it looks to me like the coaches just told Trey to go ahead and let it fly this time. He had been overly cautious about throwing picks in the first two PS games and his sudden willingness to try difficult throws makes me think the coaches wanted to see those throws. I don’t know if the coaches did say that… but I know that coaches will say that at times in games that don’t count. Heck, Parcells told Phil Simms that in a regular season game and said that if he threw an INT that it would be on the coaches and not on him.

What do I think of Lance? I’m not really sure. The physical tools are very good but playing QB in the NFL is just so much about processing and decision making. Obviously, if you could get his processing speed up to where it needs to be, you’d have a great QB that can extend drives with his legs. However, the interceptions show that he still needs work on reading defenses and making decisions. They haven’t been a problem for him up to this point, but man… you can’t just throw to the other team like that.

He showed against the Chargers exactly why you’d love to have him as your QB. Unfortunately, he also showed exactly why you wouldn’t want him as your QB. What does that mean? I guess just that he has potential but isn’t there yet.

This backup QB is polarizing and it is split down the Dak Prescott divide. For the most part, people who don’t like Dak think that Lance looks great and those that like Dak as the Cowboys QB think that Trey has shown that he can’t be an NFL QB. I guess that’s understandable, but it is a shame because Lance isn’t great and he definitely hasn’t shown that he can’t play in this league, IMO.

I’m sort of in the middle on Lance. I think he still needs some work. He’s only had 1 training camp in McCarthy’s west coast offense, and 1 regular season where he was the 3rd QB just watching the offense. He certainly needs more work in it. But the progress he showed from the first preseason game to the third preseason game was noticeable, and shows the direction he will go as he continues to get comfortable in the offense. The coaches seem to feel the same way and want to continue to mold Trey. McCarthy always says, he needs reps, he needs reps. Which I agree with.

On Dak, I’m kind of in the middle as well. He’s a good QB and makes plenty of plays. I do see that his playoff record needs improving, but overall, the team wins with Prescott. The only thing that gives me pause with Dak is the kind of money he’s about to make. I can understand why a team would want to keep him… but I can also understand why a team would want to move in from him rather than pay that much money. I do think Dallas keeps Dak, but I could be wrong.

But this is about Lance. I agree with the team that he should be kept and developed because I think there’s a pretty good shot that he ends up as a good player in the league. He has so much upside that it makes perfect sense to keep working with him.

What about Trey’s next contract? Well, that’s another story entirely, and it is one the Cowboys will need to figure out if they want to truly see what Lance can become. I have no idea about what kind of contract he’ll want, but money aside, I want to see Lance stay in Dallas long enough to show if he can make it or not.

I think he gives us a better chance than Cooper Rush. But I still would like to see a draft pick come in at quarterback

It's not our job to keep or toss Lance away. We are just fans.

He has to show on the field consistently that he is a solid number 2 QB and he will keep his spot and continue his march to being considered a number 1.

It's on Lnace's shoulders not ours.

He’ll need an opportunity to play this season or Jerry will have nothing to justify signing him other than that he’s here. If MM is signed to continue as the Cowboys’ head coach Lance’s familiarity with the offense may mean he’s worthwhile keeping around. He will not be paid anymore than the vet minimum allowed in the CBA. Jerry knows no other team could possibly be interested in Lance, certainly no one will offer him a big contract. But if it’s a new head coach, Lance may be headed to the CFL. Any worthwhile potential head coach is only going to be interested in a team with an established quarterback. Jerry has really mishandled his team’s quarterback situation.

Someone should start a poll about Trey Lance, w/ one of the choices being "It's not relevant."

I’m not sure where people get the idea he struggles to read the field. He’s good at going through his progressions. His issues are he is sometimes hesitant or his accuracy is off. He’s made some mistakes on some pre-snap reads, but those things can be eliminated the more he plays. Will he get enough playing time here to do so? Who knows? But he’s here because he flashes serious potential, and it’s the same reason the 49ers drafted him.

It is a fallback thing to say to put down a QB they do not like. When the fans themselves can't read a defense either. Even from looking above from the TV cameras.

The same things were and still are said about Dak. But yet all of a sudden the defend Dak and criticize Trey over the same issues.
Dak has improved, as Trey will also.

They offer no proof except a few cherry picked plays, that happen to all QB's.

Then it's a bad video. It's a known thing that Lance has had major problems reading the D. I think it's mostly postsnap.

He absolutely does not have enough experience, no doubt. Problem is, he won't get it here. Hades, we had a chance to give him some blowout snaps last year, and for some inexplicable really weird reason played Rush in trash time. Made zero sense.
He was the emergency QB last year, so unless both QB's were injured, he could not come in to play.
It is not a known thing he can't read defenses. That is a fan made up crap. Was not the same said about Dak?

So I ask you what that means and you just say:

“It’s a known thing”.

Sorry, but just because certain people keep repeating it in posts doesn’t make it such.
It is equivalent to a person shouting to get their point across. They think by being loud it makes them correct. When it really makes them look, well foolish is not the right word. I guess makes them look wrong.

What if he wants $20 million per year for 4 years when his contract expires? $50 million guaranteed? You still want him?

You can't possibly think that. "major problems". I guess a definition of "major" is in order.

Trey read PLENTY in this video. As the narrator said...he does have a couple puzzling moments....but hardly "major" in my book. He made some really good plays...has a hot arm. RUns well. The onlyt things he needs is for his receivers to catch the dam ball....and throw a couple passes away. Like Dak had to learn. These are quite correctable.

Lance hate is baffling.

Where'd you get those numbers from?

If we are at THAT point....then definitely maybe!

That would mean he's improved enough to take over. QB found.

Right.
And the only WR on the roster that was on the field with Trey in those PS games is Flournoy. And they had a good chemistry overall, it seemed.
The other WR's did not play or had very limited snaps with Rush.
All the other WR's are gone or are on the PS.

Would love to see Trey with the starters.
