He's been the HC since 2011 so he's only been in charge for two full years plus an offseason/draft. He's had to overall the OL and the secondary not to mention the overall lack of depth. I'm still not convinced he's The One but I'm leaning that way since leaning the other way until recently. I don't care who's coach as I don't know anyone on the club anymore. But I value continuity greatly and he's improved the depth and the OL at the very least. His offenses have generally been top half or better in the league although RZ wasn't up to snuff. RZ and TOs are his main projects this year along with continued reconstruction of the OL and finding the Lost Safeties of Zanzibar; not shorting all the other areas that need constant attention as well.

Yes, actually a nice move by Jones. But then of course, once Jones figured he fixed all the Oline problems he went right back to his skill position toy fetish.

Playing loose with the facts today are we. You don't know what Garrett felt about Floyd as he's not said anything of the sort. Just because some interpreted his facial expressions and body language as fact he was upset or didn't like picking Fred is conjecture pure and simple. Maybe he didn't but it's been reported Marinelli and Kiffin didn't want Floyd. That's second hand info but it's better than interpreting body language of someone in the war room. And I can't imagine that Garrett wanted a 3-4 NT with little history of getting to the QB as the number one pick this year. Looks like they made the right decision so far although its early re Fred.

Yes, all valid points. And certainly true on Kiffin not wantinhg him. But no doubt the look on his face and the head scouts face was very telling that Jones traded back. And it was quite clear enough that Jones was doing what he wanted. And further evidence in the second round when Jones was recorded telling his people that if he made this pick, it would mean a shift in the offense to the 12 formation as the new base offense. Certainly that was him telling them what was going to happen. And of you have been following Jones over the last 5 years he has been obsessed with the Patriots. So out with Garretts FB based offense and in with Jones obsessed 12 TE formation.

I appreciate the civil debate. Really. We just need to agree to disagree. I'm not going to try to read minds or vague indirect conversations. If you haven't noticed many teams are going to the 12 and 13 more as these hybrid TEs create a lot of problems for defenses. So no Jones didn't dictate that. That's the HC and his offense doing that. I'm certain Jones and all made the decision together to jettison Ryan for a turnover creating D. And no doubt Jones is on board with using the 12 a little more. If you go back and look at our use of the 12 you'll find this is not a new thing and we've had a decent amount of success with it. So I don't agree Jones is dictating anything other than he almost certainly told Garrett that things needed to change and 8-8 wasn't acceptable, which is close enough to verbatim what he's said in public.

I have a ton more faith in Garrett now that he is not calling plays. Trying to be both the OC and HC apparently was too much for him. It really showed on the field with piss poor clock management and how our offense clicked so much better when we were in hurry up mode with Romo calling the shots. Now that he is just a HC, I am excited and expect great things. The HC main duties are motivation and discipline. Garrett has the tools to be an excellent motivator. I sincerely hope this is the start of a very long and EXTREMELY successful head coaching career!!!!!

The reality is Floyd was number one on their draft board, was a 3-4 tackle and the Cowboys went 4-3, and Jerry over-ruled that based upon Kiffin and Marinelli. The fact that Floyd was number one in the beginning shows what Garrett actually knows, because nobody that really mattered was on board with him going number one, such that Jerry had to over-rule it.

Another assumption.

Denial ain't a river in Egypt. I loved how the Garrett supporters in the beginning of last year were blaming the offensive stagnation on the fact that Dez Bryant didn't run his routes correctly and could't implement the plays Garrett was calling. Suddenly, it's Garrett now being free to do what he does best at.

Strawman and deflection. I'm not a supporter but am definitely trending that direction. Ur making assumptions which may are maynot be true. We dont really know the process that led to Callahan calling plays. My guess would be more to allow him to bave more time to supervise the entire team. I xidnt like jearing that Ryan skipped meetings etc. As basically CEO he needs to have his hands in everything.

How is that a strawman and deflection, when we are dealing with the attitude of JG homers. Are you denying that this board wasn't full of JG supporters claiming that Dez Bryant couldn't run the routes properly or Romo kept changing the plays to things that wouldn't work? Your denying tha Jerry Jones was flippin livid after the Commanders loss only to say this team is going to make changes for ROMO?

So Garrett fired his own brother? When Jerry Jones is telling you a month after the loss to the Commanders that Jason Garrett is making ALL the changes, then Garrett is definitely not making the changes.

No, its not the head coach and the offense dictating that. It was Jones clearly dictating that to the Garrett. Go watch the video of the Draft again.

Jones was quite clear when the season ended. " its going to very uncomfortable for those at valley ranch" Do you think he meant everyone but Garrett?

His first move was to fire Garretts brother. Do you think that was Garretts decision? It would be blind to think that. This was Jones way of saying, were doing it my way now. A clear signal directed at Garrett. No other way to look at that. His next move was to fire the DC and bring in Kiffin. Who do you think was talking to Kiffin behind the scenes at the end of the season? Garrett? While he was coaching the team down the stretch? I doubt it. Did Garrett agree with the replacement? Im sure he did. But he probably had no choice. Was he going to tell Jones no? Would Garrett have done it on his own? Who knows. And certainly it wasnt Garreetts decision to strip himself of play calling. Garrett ego wanted to call the plays. That was also obvious. And any doubt was cleared up by Garrett himself. When in an interview he said the there was a "pull" between him and jones on that decision because there had been successful coaches that have done both. To act like this was all part of Garretts plan and he wanted to do it all is naive I would say.

But those that defend the hapless Garrett will say there is no way to be sure. And they will listent to Garrett puppet out that "we all talked about it", or that he acts like it was just the natural process. But obvious to anyone looking at the situation what really went down.

Jones gets pissed after two years of disappointment, warns that there will be changes, fires Garretts brother, fires Garretts hand picked DC and brings in his own guy, strips Garrett of play calling and hands the offense over to Callahan and Romo. In the draft he again shows he is in command by making it obvious he is calling the shots and even goes as far as to tell Garrett he is now changing to the 12 formation with the TE in the 2nd round.

They list players position on the board even though they do not wish to draft them. There might have been situations they would have taken him anyway.

Yeah, I know Marinelli and Kiffin didn't wan't to draft him, which you admitted yourself. And the boards say he was rated a first round player and Jason Garrett and Tom looked upset when passing on Floyd, and your arguing that we don't really know? Funny how Dez Bryant running the wrong routes was an establised fact last year or Romo changing plays that would have worked.

How about Garrett's philosophy going into the draft?

“You certainly have team needs; every team in the league has needs that they think are more pressing than others throughout their roster. But what we try to do is try to be as pure as we can be come draft day and try to pick the best players.”

So Floyd was the best player per their boards.
