I can’t believe how many are so excited about a 40yr old signing

Who's excited? The team should have addressed Tyron years ago. Now it's going to be 28 years.
I'm excited. This a great time to be a Cowboy fan. You can sense that good things are about to happen. They are going to be good. You don't know what you are talking about. Watch and enjoy.

It's not just him. Sports talk radio is laughing at us. Especially in Philly. But in Philly it's more of a feeling of embarrassment for him. Maybe they didn't watch film either.
Lol, they are stupid.

Really? How many teams can lose a starting LT less than 2 weeks before the start of the season and have zero problems replacing that guy? More importantly, they did in fact sign a guy that is an absolute proven player in less than 10 days. That is a huge accomplishment.

Back to the OP.... didnt the rams bring back an old man O lineman last year?

My point was more that Dallas should have realized earlier on this year that Tyron Smith has been falling apart and had better depth on the OL. While drafting Smith in the 1st round this season helps, many point to him as a slow build prospect. After him, Dallas doesn't have much in terms of young talent for OL depth and that was more my point.

Lol, they are stupid.

I've said it before, but if you haven't seen Bill Burr (comic) go in on the Philly crowd and attack everything they love for 30 minutes straight, you owe it to yourself to watch it. Lol

Is Micky says. If he is so good why was he available? PS. Tamba Bay did not sign him and both of their tackles are injured.
They don't have the cap space that Dallas has. Remember people were complaining that the Cowboys don't spend and then they sign Barr, Turpin, and Peters while the other teams are forced to watch because they spent all their money.

How most teams are strolling healthy into the season and we're already limping into it.
What an ignorant take. The Cowboys are in much better shape than the Bucs who have had a ton of injuries. The Cowboys are one of the healthiest teams in the league.

Offensive line, especially left tackle, is an exception position when it comes to age because great players can have a long career there if their bodies hold up on them.

For example ..

Andrew Whitworth is 40 years old. He is also one of the NFL’s best tackles.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/12/17/andrew-whitworth-longevity/

Whitworth isn’t the first 40-year-old to start an NFL game somewhere along an offensive line, but it’s not a long list. Rams legend Jackie Slater, a fixture at right tackle from 1976 to 1995, did it. At 43, Ray Brown started several 2005 games for Washington at right guard, including a pair of playoff contests that made him the oldest NFL lineman to appear in the postseason. Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews ended his 19-year career by making the Pro Bowl as a 40-year-old center for the 2001 Tennessee Titans.

I would not want a 40 year old linebacker, but a 40 year old offensive lineman who is still a solid player is another story.

His highlight film from last year with the Bears shows he can still play that position, so whether Peters works out or not, he is worth a shot.

Worst case they release him and go with the young guys or sign another left tackle or guard.

This post pretty much kills the thread, or should have......lol

Trying to find it and not sure forum rules about posting links but but this was from an SI article: "Peters, 40, is coming off a one season stint with the Bears. He started in 15 games with the team in 2021.He received a 77.5 rating from Pro Football Focus, which was the highest rating a Bears tackle had gotten since 2017." This was from an article on bleacherreport: "A nine-time Pro Bowler, Peters started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021. He finished last season as the 20th-ranked offensive tackle by PFF grades." The landryhat stated "he was PFF's 21st-ranked tackle in 2021 with a grade of 77.5"

So without looking up the PFF report it seems Peters was ranked #20 or #21 instead of #22 but can't pinpoint the exact ranking.
His ranking doesn't actually matter. You can watch his film and tell he is pretty good. He had 3 penalties in 15 games and he can block. He can play for us and help us win games.

The depth was needed so no reason to be negative about the signing. But best case scenario is Peters never plays LT because Smith plays well the 1st 2 weeks and runs with the job.

Peters hasn’t played RT since 2005 so I’m curious about the possibility of him playing there if Steele struggles…which I think is a legit worry no one is talking about. I personally don’t think the odds of Steele being a good RT all season are much better than Smith being able to play LT.
You’re wrong.

I hope both play well at their positions, but Steele is much more likely to play well. Steele played well last year at RT. Smith is an unproven LT at the pro level.

I think that they did a great job. They drafted Tyler Smith and the 5th rounder and then signed Peters. Excellent work in my opinion.

The only 40+ signing that would be ok is a guy named Brady. Other than him I really don’t get it. Has it gotten that bad that Jerry could sign Larry Allen and everyone is talking like it’s adding Deion in 95? LOL, brainwashed fan base.
Should we be upset instead that we signed the best available left tackle after losing our starter for basically the year? Should we just go with a rookie who holds and a very mediocre left guard or maybe someone like Ball at tackle who has been getting trashed in the preseason and moving Tyler at guard?

Only way that happens is if Tyler completely ***** the bed or injury. Once he’s there, they ain’t going to take the chance of blowing him up by moving him out!
He can go right back to left guard or they can put Peters at left guard.

Thanks but I was simply replying to another poster that asked about the PFF #22 ranking.

They signed Peters today simply because they lost Tyron Smith to injury so I'm sorry but going into the season knowing Tyron has been recently injury riddled they did add Smith in the 1st round. Outside of that you point to a 5th rounder when Dallas has question marks at LG, C, and RT.

So I'm not sure how they did a great job but we all see things differently.

It goes to show just how uneventful our offseason was. Some fans are so delusional they’re acting like Peters is the same player he was 15 years ago. Lol Jerry was spinning on the radio just three days ago that this is the best value roster he’s had in years. Never seen anyone try to spin so many positives in the face of so many negatives.

Honestly I'm really not impressed by this FA signing, it's like the Jones' boys are patching a bullet wound with a band-aid here. The man is 40 and he was probably signed for peanuts.

Because it gives us hope that our owners and FO might actually give a tiny s**t about what happens with this squad. I don’t care that he’s 40 - he’s instantly the best OT on the active roster. Says quite a lot about our O-line moves (or lack thereof).

I can’t find anything on PFF . But if he’s rated #20 or # 21 that’sgood considering that’s both LT and RT combined.
