I think the conditions for signing Peters would have to be:

1. You are desperate at LT due to an injury.
2. Your back up plans have not panned out well.
3. Your back up to your back up plans have not panned out.
4. The loss of you LT has shown how little depth and capacity you actually have on the o-line.

How I saw it.

1. Tyron is got a possible season/career ending injury.
2. Tyler was part of a development plan not only for him, but for McGovern and Biadazs. Now the plan has to accelerate.
3. Waletzko and Ball have not proven themselves to be homeruns as backup LT or LG material.
4. The loss of Tyron has made it clear how close we are to another injury leading to a total meltdown of the cohesiveness and experience of the o-line.

Picking up Peters who has played both LT, RT and the guard position he provides the o-line with a lot of position flex options regardless of unforeseen injury.

This is a good pick up, and you gotta believe Philbin is not crapping his pants anymore.

Yes, it's really simple. It's a whole boatload of circumstances plus who was available. If we had gone into the preseason having cut Tyron and signed Peters as his replacement, we'd be right to question the sanity of this front office. But the circumstances are different now. We need an insurance policy at best and someone who still has shown the ability to be a quality starter at worst.

Trying to find it and not sure forum rules about posting links but but this was from an SI article: "Peters, 40, is coming off a one season stint with the Bears. He started in 15 games with the team in 2021.He received a 77.5 rating from Pro Football Focus, which was the highest rating a Bears tackle had gotten since 2017." This was from an article on bleacherreport: "A nine-time Pro Bowler, Peters started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021. He finished last season as the 20th-ranked offensive tackle by PFF grades." The landryhat stated "he was PFF's 21st-ranked tackle in 2021 with a grade of 77.5"

So without looking up the PFF report it seems Peters was ranked #20 or #21 instead of #22 but can't pinpoint the exact ranking.

We needed a LT badly; the only one we have is a rookie who NEEDS work. We apparently did not pay all that much.

I'm just glad they added someone. Glad they saw the need. If you ask me they still need to bring in Fisher. So what's brainwashy about wanting to make the OL a little better?

Dallas had to do something to help the LT position after the loss of Smith and given at the age of 39 Peters was ranked as the #22 OT in the league last season speaks volumes for him. That said, there is no doubt things should never have gotten to where Dallas is scrambling a few days before the season to seek help on the OL and that points directly to Jerry & Co.

Really? How many teams can lose a starting LT less than 2 weeks before the start of the season and have zero problems replacing that guy? More importantly, they did in fact sign a guy that is an absolute proven player in less than 10 days. That is a huge accomplishment.

Okay, PFF score was the bet. We should add some kind of qualifier, if CeeDee has a poor score in the Bucs game and then blows out his knee in week 3, it’s not particularly indicative of the overall player he is. So 5 game appearance minimum for each guy or the bet is nullified?
