I honestly think Zeke wants to play so bad that he would sign for the minimum....and the ONLY thing that keeps me from being 100% in agreement to do it, is that he would have ZERO incentive to show up and stay in decent shape.

Good point. And I agree. I think Jerry wants him back, and the team wants him back. And yeah, that played a big part in how we addressed RB in the draft.

The run game will suck this year. And Dak can’t do it on his own.
with no run game to take the pressure off. He may throw 30 INT‘s

No RB, an OL late, non impact this year. From the draft.
Lol. Talk about jumping the gun. If we have a good to great O-Line then you or I could run behind it for 1000 yards and 20 TDs. I am hoping Dak uses hos legs more this year. He is looking for a new contract. But if Pollard heals up and Elliot comes back he will finally be healthy. Add in Deuce. We are ok. I will say I was almost hoping for a top rated RB in the draft. But we drafted late and needed that DT.

He will be back on incentive based contract and he will meet the incentives. If his knees hold up. Everyone said he lost a step. He did a little. But his injuries went without people talking about it. Was just easier to say he lost it.

That they didn't take a pass protect RB... and surely they're not going to take one in the 7th... just further adds to the intintrigue
They picked up Hunter Leupke as a udfa. This guy runs wanting to hit people, blocks, and picks up tough yards carrying people. And I'm not exaggerating. This guy is going to live in the redzone. I loved this signing

Agreed with all that. But/and only skeptical that they'll go into training camp without having a definitive other RB. It's a lot to expect a UDFA to make such an impression in OTAs that he would be considered the definitive other RB, imo. Moreover, he's coming off a (shoulder?) injury.

It's going to come down to what Zeke's willing to be paid, and at that, whether what Jerry's willing to pay is in the ballpark with what Zeke will be offered elsewhere. Don't think there's any question that if the money is right, there's going to be a reunion already that absolutely warms the heart of some and absolutely sends others to embrace substance abuse.

I don’t want Zeke back…his time here in Dallas is finished. But I think Jerry is having a hard time cutting the umbilical cord…so I can see Zeke coming back. It’s unfortunate because at this stage in his career he is a progress stopper. The fact that Zeke is still available will reinforce Jerry’s intent to bring him back when in fact if should have validated his decision to cut Zeke.
But when Jerry crushes on a player…it’s for life!

I sure hope not.

Backs taken this late in the draft or UDFA will be better.
How many backs taken late in the draft or are undrafted free agents do you honestly believe could put up over 800 yards and 12 TDs splitting carries with another back? You’re just another one I’m glad isn’t running the team.

Based upon this draft, I can see us bringing him back...

Thoughts?
I can see the cowboys doing it. But it would be a dumb decision.

No other team has shown much interest in him, which is what a lot of us thought would happen. You can easily replace what he wouldgl give you with a undrafted free agent.

I hear he wants to change back to his college number. Jerry sees that and thinks jersey sales. It wouldn't surprise me if Jerry being him back just for that reason alone

It’s not the umbilical cord, it’s more like the string of spaghetti from lady and the tramp.

If Luepke makes it for special teams, I can see McCarthy carving out a role for him in short yardage

Pretty much any one of them if they receive the same amount of carries.

i did not want Zeke back before the draft, but now we need him back. Unless they really believe in Ronald Jones, you simply cannot go into the season without a proven between the tackles/short yardage runner, and most importantly, a pass protector. That we didn’t draft that type of back, but rather a scat back, tells me that resigning Zeke was the plan all along, if he wasn’t signed by someone else before the draft. We’ll see.

Quite a few could average 3.8 yards per carry

I’d think Zeke would have more pride than that tbh.

You sound like a typical casual fan. I’m sure you were one of those who thought Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle combined would put up the same yards and TDs DeMarco Murray did the previous season. Those who thought that were wrong! All the backs we have to replace Zeke are downgrades. If the Cowboys miscalculate at RB like they did back in 2015 and we don’t have a back who can pick up the tough yards on some of these fourth down plays McCarthy likes taking chances on or can’t punch it into the endzone from 2 to 3 yards out, we’ll be having to trade for a big RB during the season. A back who can pick up those dirty yards on third downs is going to be critical. With our uncertain kicker situation, we can’t be settling for FG’s all day.
