Sorry that doesnt cut it.
He is borderline irresponsible as an owner.

To add: Who knew that when Jerry said any one of 500 coaches could win SB with that team, that when it in fact did happen that we would pay for SBXXX for 13+ year of misery and heartbreak and flat out some of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history.

There are a lot of irresponsible sports franchise owners in the world. Unless the fans take their business elsewhere in mass quantities, they won't change. Fans give Jerry a pass because he wants to win at all cost, and hence, they don't jump ship.

FWIW, aside from the Roy Williams trade, his moves over the past couple of seasons have been solid. The RW trade didn't pan out, and was a brainfart, but many teams have made moves that they regret.

I knew in 1996 that this team would pay for its success in the years to come. I didn't foresee it lasting this long, I do admit. That was the first time that Jones was faced with the reality of his stars aging. Guys that he brought in when he bought the team. It isn't easy to let go of players that brought all that success in a relatively short amount of time.

To me, owners like Snyder and Al Davis are the definition of irresponsible.

See I never liked Parcells style of defense, Phillips's is more of an attack style which I think is best. The only thing Parcells appeared to do is upset his players, while Phillips seems to foster improvement. It goes against what we believe should be a successful HC, but Phillips and his dough boy approach seems to work and that's why I like him over Parcells.

Phillips had the luxury of a well built team where he had to add a piece here add a piece there. Parcells had to totally rebuild a screw job from hell.
As I said, Parcells is old school, Phillips rides the waves. But his job was made way easier thanks to Parcells. Parcells even helped our GM realize he might not be right all the time.

Phillips has the most well built team since the 90s, he hasn't got the job done.
I guess he gets one more try at least.

Other franchises can fire their GMs and at least try to make things better.
Then there is us.
If not for Steven.....................

Is there a prototype that fits this description?
Every team fluctuates, and this team is doing fine with Jones as GM and I can't ignore that or pretend all of the failing he'd had up until where are now is the single qualifier.

The Cowboys look headed in the right direction to me; it's nothing personal how I felt about Jones when he sucked, so there's no reason for me not recognize when he gets his head and *** wired properly and does the right thing.

I guess it's just me and my optimism, but I see Phillips becoming more than just the next Barry Switzer. And I'm sure everyone else is hoping the same.

First off I could care less what other teams do. I hope other teams screw up myself. Jones is the common denominator in our so very long drought.
Keep believing I guess, that's your right. I already stated you can't hang this seasons results on him. That still doesn't make me warm and fuzzy he won't
find a way to screw up soon. Oh wait............. Roy Williams.

I hope the same. His history tells me he won't even reach Switzers plateau.

Well unless Jerry has a heart attack or sells the team, both of which I don't see happening anytime soon, you'll have to live with him as our owner.

This is spot on in my opinion.

People say that Rex and the Jets have the luxury of playing weaker teams and conference etc. Thats bull.

Not only did he win the game he had to... he did it with less talent and rookie QB and not even a year of head coaching under his belt.

People talk about "maybe we are overrating the talent" THAT is bull also. We have alot of talent and its not just this year. Atleast since 2007.

We FAIL.

I know it is hard to see when you are living in it. But reflecting back on these past 3 seasons in about 5 years is going to have alot of "what was Jerry thinking"??? - book it

Unless of course you're using them as a model to prove your point?

It has nothing to do with this 'believing' craze, and everything to do with what I'd already said: it's not personal. I can recognize a thing without my wants getting in the way of that. Unfortunately it is with you and you won't see things for what they are because your focus on Jones has become bigger than your ability to enjoy the game of football.

Oh wait, Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Felix Jones... :laugh1:

That is fine. But wanting to win at all costs and hiring a puppet coach is not the right decision. Wade was and is nothing more. "I dunno, you're gonna have to ask Jerry" OMG!!!

We will agree to disagree. Jerry = irresponsible.
Now, if you have different level of irresponsibility for Jerry and then Danny and then Al... then I am all ears.

I was so happy for the Jets it helped me lose some anger I had for the Boys.
I doubt very much they beat the Colts but what a way to start your career as a HC. I wanted Rex before we hired Phillips. I would take him today over Phillips in a heart beat. The guy seems to be the perfect mix of Phillips/Parcells.

While I dont know enough about him to say I want him because of his current success. I could definitely see him going up to Romo after he said, "the INT's were just like punts"

Rex's response: (a whack to the back of Tony's head), "you said what to the media"?? lmao

The cause of death this season is obvious: the offensive line.

Jerry changed the tone of this team last year by getting rid of all the locker room cancers; I have faith that he'll fix the OL and kicking problems as well.

With some improvements, this team could go 14-2 next year. They play as a team, they have leaders, the defense is improved, and Romo has emerged.

They just have to keep improving and they'll be what we all want them to be.

I am not asking for 19-0. How about some consistency? Back to a winning tradition. How many super bowls in 13 years? Not even close. If I made the investment he has made I would want results. In other words trophies. I guess we will settle for less for a long time. I live in New Orleans and listening to these insane saints fans is killing me.

...i feel your pain my friend...near Lafayette myself...

...you have to ask yourself what is a winning tradition...by Cowboys standards that is multiple superbowls over as many years...

...i think we all long for 5-6 years of dominance like the nineties but few teams have achieved that since the salary cap started...

Superbowls:

New England...4 over a 7 year span [Belichick [01, 03-04, 07 [3-1]...5 over a twelve year span [Parcells 96 [0-1] -Belichick [3-1]...Brady

Pittsburgh...3 over a 14 year span [Cowher [95-05] 1-1, Tomlin [08] 1-0] or 2 in 4 years [Cowher 1-0, Tomlin 1-0]...Roethlisberger

That's the only two teams...even the great Peyton Manning only has 1 appearance/win in 10 seasons in Indianapolis...

McNabb and the Eagles have 5 conference appearances and a superbowl loss in 10 years...

...i think a lot of us miss the fact that this was a transition year for the offense and if it had'nt been for the surprise emergence of Miles Austin, this team would not have made the playoffs...the kid was that good this year...the Cowboys can be one game better next year with a full season from him and that could buy them a first round bye...you usually need 12 or more wins to get one...it just took the defense a while to come together as a group...the really important question has to do with Roy Williams...they got next to nothing from him this year...Marion Barber is another player at the crossroads...it's probably time to return him to the role of closer, where he earned his claim to fame...Jones and Choice should be given a chance to shine...
