Being from New Orleans, LA, I know how good Odell Beckman Jr. was at Newman, LSU, and the NFL.

However, he is coming off his second serious knee injury and 3rd leg injury. Now fans want Odell after Jerry Dumbo GM Jones had a WR that has has been more productive, healthier, and proved he can turn a team fortunes around in Amari Cooper. Jerry Dumbo GM Jones gave Cooooop away. At least the Giants got a no.1 and no.2 pick in 2019 for Odell. He gave away a healthy 2 legged multiple Pro Bowl WR for fans to jump on the hype train for a one legged WR that now must have the tag of injury prone.

I just do not get it. And, I will not drink to Kool Aid.

Yes this has been going on (the comparison) since Cooper's rookie year. The only difference is Cooper was a Dallas Cowboys and Odell never was and is not yet.

Well, let’s be real, assuming they sign Beckham it won’t be for more that as a stopgap for the end of this season, waiting for Tolbert who’ll be ready to contribute next year. Coopers contract was written so as they could walk away after 2 years. Resigning Gallup (at much less than what he would have gotten w/out the injury) cemented that they would do so. It was obvious even last year that the future of this offense was going to be 12 personnel. You don’t continue to pay an often dinged up WR that type of cash in this offense!

During his 8 regular season games with the Rams OBJ put up numbers very similar to those that Noah Brown has put up this year. So I don't really get the hype but he would be decent backup in case of injury.
James Washington should know the playbook much better by now than OBJ.
Perhaps they are thinking about what a pair of speed guys can offer the offense with Washington and OBJ rotating....IDK, but I don't think OBJ is the lead dog that he is being hyped up to be.
Or perhaps they are going to rotate the 3 TE offense that has been successful so far with a 3 WR (Lamb, OBJ, Washington) speed offense....

I would have preferred that we renegotiated Cooper's deal and kept him. But that ship has sailed.

The question is whether Beckham could possibly make our offense better than it is now. I don't know the answer to that, but I'm not going to be upset if we at least try to do something to improve.

Getting rid of Amari Cooper was a monumental mistake, I would easily rather have Cooper than an injury riddled OBJ, that being said it's not possible. What I will tell you, Gallup is a shell of himself and all 3 receivers are very similar in their attributes, OBJ day one would be the best route runner. Amari Cooper was so under appreciated here, what makes me sick people still love Zeke, and I have been saying it for 3 years Pollard has been the better back. Once a cult formation is culminated you can't change it. People will be shocked when Zeke is out of the league next year, or get's basically a league minimum contract.

The loss of Cooper literally has had no effect on this team's performance so far. And despite the claims that he carried the team and got them where they made it...they didn't make it very far. He hasn't elevated the Browns at all.

Lamb has 42 catches for 556 yards and 3 TDs. He is averaging 13.2 yards per catch. His cap hit is 3.8m this year and 4.5m next year. People feel he has not performed to the level of a #1 receiver, yet his numbers are identical to a guy that people are trying to say is what you need from your #1.

Cooper has 39 catches for 553 yards and 5 TDs. He is averaging 14.2 yards per catch. His cap hit is 4.9m this year, and 23.8m next year

During his career, Cooper has disappeared in the biggest games and at times has seemed disinterested. Lamb at times does not appear to give the best effort going after the ball.

For the minimal difference in performance, I'd take Lamb all day. Throwing in the fact that Lamb played most of the first half of the season with a QB that can't throw it outside the hashmarks, I think we will see an uptick in his numbers moving forward. Maybe Cooper's will after Watson comes off suspension.

Can we argue that Jones didn't get enough in return for Cooper in the trade? Absolutely. But from an on the field standard, there really is nothing lost.
Great post

Lamb is going to likely either get paid next year, or let go the year after. I would disagree with this sentiment completely, watching him last year he was more open and not every grab was so contested, and why was this so? Teams were more afraid of the real threat. Amari has also been playing with a career backup and you can see, so eloquently he runs his routes and the separation is amazing, meanwhile most of Lamb's catches have to been contested. Is it easier to catch a ball getting hit, or catching it clean? That is the biggest disparity between the 2 of them.

LOL.....and you are correct.
We are Superbowl bound every year and adding Odell will bring the Homer levels thru the roof here in the good old CZ.
It's a Cowboy thing and when it all comes crashing down we will be calling for MM and KM heads.
This inept offense couldn't get the job done with Coop and Dez now they're expecting what exactly from a gimp old prima donna WR who we can only afford with a one-year deal as there is no cap for a multi-year deal.
How this offense can beat the Niners or Eagles in the playoffs hmmmmm ya don't think so as they will once again fail to score the points.

Some people on here try saying we have the most talented team in the league and have to ponder why we can't win every year. This just in were not and not this year, but in the conversation, Bills and Chiefs clearly ahead. Some people have been saying Zeke is great the past 3 years, when his stats prove he's mediocre at best, but he wears a "star" so that emboldens his status.

Agree with much of what you say. The key difference with OBJ vs Amari is that OBJ imo will just bring more dog mentality to the Boys. Guaranteed the players will be head over heels with this move if it does in fact happen.

OBJ Is effeminate and soft as tissue paper. Nobody is scared of a New York Chihuahua.

you do realize we could have both, right? which is the entire point. if you absoulutely must compare then it should be gallup (and his contract) you’re comparing to amari.

Gallup contract is nowhere near Cooper's...look at next year's cap numbers. Without trading Cooper we likely don't have the money to add Barr, Fowler, and Peters. We could have done things to lower Coopers cost short term but would have lead to more dead money down the road.

I’m with you bruh. At this point in his career, OBJ isn’t stretching the defense. Isn’t scaring anyone on the opposition. And no one is scheming against him. He’s a possession receiver. We have that in Noah, who is a better blocker. No thanks. Cooks would have made way more sense.

I don’t care what AJ Brown got. Hes younger and better! This talk of Cooper greatness is hilarious. He wasn’t worth the money considering cap issues and key contracts upcoming. The Arlington Jones boys got this decision 100% correct. You have to find production cheaper. Especially the numbers Cooper was putting up.

The same debate can be had about Dak given you have upcoming contracts for players like Pollard, Parsons, Diggs.

We are interested in OBJ because we crave attention more than we crave winning football. We are a joke of a franchise. We may someday overcome all of it, catch a heater at the right time and make a deep playoff run but it will not be because of a solid foundation. OBJ was a clown show at the best of times. Now he is an old broke down clown show. Beyond pathetic.

Gallup has a 2023 cap hit of $M with $19M in dead money. Dallas can get out of his contract before the 2024 season as he has a 2024 cap hit of $11.5M with $6M in dead money.

Gallup is the 30th highest paid WR in the NFL with a contract averaging $11.5M/year....and for that has 12 catches for 135 yards and 1 td.

How much does a no.1 WR cost today? Your sounding like a Arlington Jonesboys fan with that Kool Aid mustache...
kool_aid_mustache_by_margarita522_d1ae5nv-fullview.jpg

By the way the Eagles drafted Devonta Smith WR in the top 10, and then traded for AJ Brown signing him to a four-year, $100 million contract with the Eagles, after the trade with $57 million guaranteed. So what is the Jonesboys kool aid drinking point of not keeping Amari Cooper for $20M?
That Amari isn't worth 20M a year.
AJ Brown is 25 years old.
Amari is 28 and has struggled with foot injuries.
It's also the Eagles admitting they can't really draft.
Smith is not a WR1 long-term even though he was drafted that high.

OBJ's job would be to come here and be a part-time big play guy. He'd be WR3.
He scored 5 TDs for the Rams and that know now is what Dallas would be buying.
But Dallas isn't spending big on him because he is limited to a role.
