I know that WR corp was a joke built on stupid decisions. Still doesn’t justify more stupid decisions. Cooper wasn’t worth that money and not a single team besides the Cleveland Browns was willing to pay it without renegotiating.

Christian Kirk got average of 18m per year. Devante Adams and bigger names got well over 20m. I would say Amari was just in the top end of what he was worth relative to the market.
I think the stupid decision was letting our best WR go for peanuts. We had already committed to him, wasn’t like the Zeke situation where he was no longer producing much and we gave him the richest contract in the league. He was still our best WR by a margin. Was it too much money? Then why did we give it to him in the first place? And then we didn’t even use the money we saved for anyone of note like Wagner or Von Miller who were plenty available and affordable.
The part that’s hard to stomach is going cheap at a hard and expensive position to fill while going extreme rich at RB that is cheap and easy to fill. We had plenty of other holes to fill but added a big one, unnecessarily.

All I really care about is the value he brings to the offense. People get too caught up in stats and numbers. If he opens up opportunities for the other guys and elevates this offense back into the top 10-top 5, especially this year, bringing him in makes all the sense in the world.
He does not. He is a 12 YPC guy who caught a little over 50% of his targets last year. He is a below average #2 at best!

Things Jerry Dumbo GM Jones did that the Cowboys can not get over:
  1. Embarrassing Firing of Tom Landry (Mexican Dinner and Beers with Jimmy Johnson)
  2. Firing Jimmy Johnson (Alcohol involved again)
  3. Trading 2 no.1 picks for Joey Galloway (who never was a Pro Bowl WR)
  4. Passing on Randy Moss in the 1998 draft (Jerry got Mossed and Moss got to the HOF)
  5. Running off Bill Parcells
  6. Trading away Amari Cooper (who saved your 2018 season making 3 Pro Bowls in 4 years in Dallas)
  7. Just Wait...
Can I add over paying the QB. I'm not fan of OBJ either. Amari just wasn't a tough guy and quit on the team in the 49ers game. I don't get why Jerry didn't just sign a veteran like Jarvus Landry when the Browns let him go. They don't need a big star just somebody with good hands.

Zeke was another foolish decision, no argument there! And they can clean that up in the offseason. Lamb had more catches and more yards. Show me another “#1” WR doing the same thing. It was time to move on and when his cap hit is 23 million next year, Cleveland will do the same. Production vs value. his value was gone here.

Agree to disagree. He is still a much better WR than Lamb. Similar to what you about Zeke, not sure why we couldn’t have rented him another season and then if we were moving on…do it then

Gallup has a 2023 cap hit of $M with $19M in dead money. Dallas can get out of his contract before the 2024 season as he has a 2024 cap hit of $11.5M with $6M in dead money.

Gallup is the 30th highest paid WR in the NFL with a contract averaging $11.5M/year....and for that has 12 catches for 135 yards and 1 td.
And has played in how many games?

I'm glad you can read a stat sheet. Now go watch some of his game film and make an attempt at projecting him into this Dallas offense.

He still has elite hands and can make incredibly tough catches in traffic.

He's still a threat to stretch the field and get behind a defense

He can make those tough grabs over the middle

He's as clutch as anyone

Deadly red zone threat

Still dangerous in space

As confident as they come. Don't overlook the impact this brings to that receiver room.

The stats you posted only highlight the roles he played in Cleveland and LA, not the skill set of the player. He brought an element to that Rams offense that their front office felt they were missing, and they won a Super Bowl. Now that he's gone, that offense is hot garbage. It's foolish to overlook this, just as it's foolish to overlook the similar trend in Dallas without Cooper.

The playoff field is wide open. The NFC minus the east is terrible, and Dallas has a fatal flaw that can be corrected by bringing this guy in. Why would you be against it?

I know it can't be proven but I would bet money that Suh would have more of an impact than OBJ. That's who I want to sign. Probably cheaper too.

You're out of your mind saying "even at 50 percent." The poor dude is coming off another ACL surgery. According to that PT expert, no WR has come back from a Revision ACL repair. Meaning a repair of a repair. In his first 3 years, no doubt he was better. But saying he's better than CD and Gallup on basically one leg is beyond silly. Lol
i want both but Suh on a rotation would do wonders for the D line. So I believe.

Being from New Orleans, LA, I know how good Odell Beckman Jr. was at Newman, LSU, and the NFL.

However, he is coming off his second serious knee injury and 3rd leg injury. Now fans want Odell after Jerry Dumbo GM Jones had a WR that has has been more productive, healthier, and proved he can turn a team fortunes around in Amari Cooper. Jerry Dumbo GM Jones gave Cooooop away. At least the Giants got a no.1 and no.2 pick in 2019 for Odell. He gave away a healthy 2 legged multiple Pro Bowl WR for fans to jump on the hype train for a one legged WR that now must have the tag of injury prone.

I just do not get it. And, I will not drink to Kool Aid.

Yes this has been going on (the comparison) since Cooper's rookie year. The only difference is Cooper was a Dallas Cowboys and Odell never was and is not yet.

HE MADE A name, and fans, media, jerry lol all like guys with a name.
They will still think of him being as good as the guy who made the one handed catch.

How much does a no.1 WR cost today? Your sounding like a Arlington Jonesboys fan with that Kool Aid mustache...
kool_aid_mustache_by_margarita522_d1ae5nv-fullview.jpg

By the way the Eagles drafted Devonta Smith WR in the top 10, and then traded for AJ Brown signing him to a four-year, $100 million contract with the Eagles, after the trade with $57 million guaranteed. So what is the Jonesboys kool aid drinking point of not keeping Amari Cooper for $20M?
He's not AJ Brown?

Yet you drank the kool aid with Cooper here. A WR making 20 mil and putting up 800 yards. The team moved on from a stupid contract which is exactly what they should’ve done. They shouldn’t have given him that contract in the first place.

Some Cowboys fans love them some Amari Cooper remorse even if we have improved upon his departure.

These were far from stupid decisions. You can't be great at every single position. The issue is to be as good as you can at every position and making the best sacrifices because you can't be the best at every position so there has to be a tradeoff.

Just like a courtroom values time at a certain cost, the NFL values a balance of talent which can be had for a certain cost. So that limits teams to be fabulous at each and every position,

The Cowboys made the correct sacrifices.

Noah Brown pulled Amari's weight. And since then, Gallup has pitched in to help as well.

And on top of that, I'd say Beckham has the potential to be better than Amari here at a cheaper cost.

The other thing I've found is that the posters who are content with allowing Amari to walk are generally the fans with the most amount of knowledge. Not across the board, obviously, but generally speaking I'd say...

Because the out was this year or they would be on the hook for the full contract. Agree to disagree!

I don’t get the love fest for Cooper. Good WR, but very replaceable and never worth the money.

I was talking about the 2018 WR corps before the trade.

He's all hype. 2 complete seasons in 8 years. Averaged about 40 yards a game the last 2 years. Pass

Wow talk about look aid….
We got “so much better” at WR that we were desperately trying to take on several much lesser WRs with similar contract needs up until the trade deadline….we got so much better that we don’t have a single WR with a 100 yard game so far. Meanwhile, Amari has 3 x 100+ yard games and 5 TDs playing with one of the worst scrub starting QBs in the league.
If you are going to argue for Jerry’s bonehead move, stick to the money because we are 1000% NOT better on the field vs without him. And even the contract issue…isn’t the real reason…Amari hurt Jerry and Daks feelings and that’s why he’s not here. The money explanation was just cover, esp proven when the FO was desperately trying to acquire someone, anyone at the trade deadline. It’s similar to Jimmy Johnson departing early….Jerry’s hurt feelings. The FO made some shrewd moves in the off-season and draft but giving Amari away was not one.

They brought in a WR who broke his foot, Im sure that didn't play a part in trying to find another one? And they din't give Amari away, they only found 1 team willing to pay the price. There's a huge difference. Giving him away would mean every team had a shot, yet none of them cared to pay it. I fault the front office for a lot of things, but getting rid of that contract was a good move. People want to talk about the state of the team 2 months into it instead of seeing how that decision will effect this team not just in 22, but very much beyond that.

desperate :lmao:, Jerry did NOT make those moves, just kicking tires. he is looking for insurance.

we may not have gotten better, but we are no worse without him, 6-2 says it all Lamb who BTW was our leading WR last year is a1 , need proof, Lamb AND AC STATS ARE NEARLY IDENTICAL. odd with such a bad wr core without all mighty next coming of jerry rice in cooper to draw coverage, somehow Lamb has the same stats and let's stop the worst with Brissett, really what did Cooper rush do before this year? they both right now been in similar offenses with similar qbs and Lamb is going catch to catch with AC..

lets stop the 100-game nonsense, odd how AC disappears so many games he needs 100-yard games to catch up, we call that being inconsistent and his $$ was big reason he got cut at the time we needed cap relief and did not need a 22 mil wr who is clearly not better then lamb.

Yes AC was solid starting wr but so is Lamb.. crazy how Lamb without all that help in ced , turner, jarwin, or AC and more importantly without DAK many of those games, still has the same production as AC at this point. 100 yard games don't mean much, so lamb has 75 per or a few 90 yarders, but in the end its overall production.

please stop the nonsense his $$$ was big reason, his inconsistency and lack of passion and drive was the other. its all led to his trade and now we will move on.. the raiders saw it, cowboys saw it, now hes gone.. not an indictment on his skillset, he simply no longer fit, mostly over $$$$.

we built team with more depth now and even if JJ brings in a WR it will be far cheaper then AC would have cost us.. OBJ is short term insurance policy. IF it happens won't cost us much.
