I don't agree that a small college is your best bet but I do agree that every avenue is worth pursuing. I do know that you can walk into an athletic department and ask to see an asst coach. At your size if they tell you to take a hike without asking some questions I'll be flabbergasted.

Create a resume and start sending it to athletic departments. You may choose to go to a local school so as to not disrupt your family right now. If you get one workout and do well then use that as leverage to gain more.

You will be judged more critically at a big school and if you play against that competition you will be drafted higher. I'm not an agent and don't know all the rules but you have at least 4 years of college eligibility to play sports. It's all up to you.

ok Humble, here is link for michael irvin show if not too late

and download for application, good luck
http://www.spike.com/i/promo/irvin/

Each year, millions of college, semi pro and international players train to play pro football in the United States. But, with only 32 teams in the league, and only 80 spots on each roster, the chances of them ever making it are slim. For those who have slipped through the cracks, this show is a second chance.

Join Hall of Famer Michael Irvin as he pits wide receivers vs. defensive backs in a grueling competition for a chance to win a spot on the roster of the Dallas Cowboys. If you're strong enough, fast enough, and ready to take your shot at glory, then download the application below or attend one of our open casting calls.

Don't laugh I'm being serious. Call Vince McMahon. At your size you probably have a better shot at "professional" wrestling with the WWE.

Thank you Beast, I am starting to get that impression.

Best of luck to you buddy, I really hope things work out for you.

Edit.....I agree with some of the other posters about Arena League being a good spot for you to start out. I know they cancelled their season this year, but they should be putting the teams together for next season. I think there is also the AFL2 or something, like a development league for the AFL teams. You might check into that, I think Quincy Carter is playing some in AFL2 for the Birmingham team or something, somebody correct me if I am wrong on that. Hell, if Quincy can make an AFL roster all jacked up on weed then it cant be that hard......go for it!!!!

I would give up.
At 28 you are just a step away from middle age. From blending in. Faceless.
You will git into the higher brackets, give the government 40 percent and your kids will mock you for your foibles.
A masters degree? In this economy?

Lissen, give up that silly dream to play football and focus on this. One word. One word: robotics.

That's the future, my boy. In the future all our thinking and doin's will be done by robots. Fer instance, Felicia the robot could cook you dinner and then sing "Red River Valley." Ah, that's living. Meanwhile, Eustace the robot could be fixin' your car or scrubbing the ATVs.

So, ferget them dreams about playing football. Grow up. At your advanced age and no experience . . . I don't know . . . . I thank you are jus crazy like them stimulus spenders.

Again, think robotics.

I would like the advice from the members here;

I am actively considering trying out for the Cowboys. Did I play college ball; No, Did I play highschool ball; No.

I played basketbal for highschool, ran into a few character differences with the coach and stopped playing. Had a scout from Mississippi contact me but I had already received a acedemic scholarship to a college in my town. I eventually attained my degree in firefighting, degree in EMS, degree in nursing, and then my bacheolors in nursing.

Out of highschool I began playing rugby for a state team and have ever since. I am 6'6 and weigh 280 lbs, concerning my rugby coach, he offered to open a couple doors through contacts he knows with the International Eagles (USA rugby team), but in the end, I would still be making around 120k/year and would be out of the country often. Something I don't see being beneficial or comprable.

I know you all have suggested going the college route to other members here, but, I am 28, completed 6 years of college, and attaining my masters presently.

Is there any form of tryouts? is there a camp I can attend?

I sound like a troll, and I apologize for that. Any help would be most appreciated.

Humble.

You'd probably have a better shot if you tried out with the Detroit Lions. Or if Dick Vermiel were still coaching the Eagles.

Good advice, and I have looked into it. They pay 300 dollars a game, no insurance, so if i was to get injured, the finincial consequences would be severe.
