note that i have been to neither and both are on my bucket list.
i am actually seriously considering portugal as a place to spend a couple months a year.

not much geologically to compare with iceland and its volcanic nature.

the fish (grouper, etc) selection in portugal is amazing.
i love portugese food, and i would guess icelandic food is bland.
porto (wine named after it or vv), largest city in the north, is supposed to be similar to san francisco.
southern portugal is supposed to have amazing beaches and many foreigners retire there
both lisbon and porto are on the railway, so you could easily go to additional places such as barcelona.

on the practical front, portugal is a very good value place to retire.

the problem with iceland is that you have to drive a lot to see these places.
you can get a preview on youtube capital and ring road trip (seen some road issues)

Good morning, everyone. I flew to Austin yesterday. As I stepped out of the airport and into 96 F and 70% humidity, I remembered why I retired in Colorado. It will be good catching up with family and friends, though.
