I lost a great deal of respect for Payton Manning

1. Staubach is not Peyton.

2. The Super Bowl wasn't as big then as it is now.

3. Staubach wasn't the subject of "Who is the Greatest Quarterback of All Time" arguments, increasing the pressure on him.

4. Staubach didn't grow up under the immense media pressure of this modern society with instant feedback, instant message, instant chat and everybody and his grandmother giving their uninformed opinion about what you should have done and why you suck because you don't shake another quarterback's hand right after the game.

5. I don't think they awarded the trophy to the winning team on the field but in the locker room. It was less pandemonium then as it is today.

Ridiculous.

Shake the man's hand.

stupid thread

I wouldn't have made a thread about it, but I agree it was poor sportsmanship that he put on his helmet and walked off the field. All the stuff about the crowd, media, etc. are excuses. And what is Brees supposed to say, "Manning is classless?"

If you've played sports or coached them, you know you congratulate the winner. You don't have to smile or give them a thousand "atta boys," but you don't put your helmet on and walk off the field. Who likes to lose? On any level? Not me.

Any reason not to congratulate the winner is simply an excuse, period. He didn't even make an effort. Farve somehow managed to find Brees in the madhouse that was the Superdome so I'm not buying.

Again, I wouldn't have made a thread about it, but it is what it is - poor sportsmanship.

he did do that he may not have done it on your time table but he did get with Brees after the game to congratulate him. If you want to find reasons to rag on manning that is your own deal as far as the people involved go Manning did get with Brees and Brees acknowledged this.

Style over substance then?
No offense, but it sounds like you wanted him to do it for you personally.

Painful to watch Peyton play QB with all of his bluff signals and just herky jerky movements and happy feet.

...common QB drill used in football to teach young and old QBs to bounce off the balls of their feet sliding in all directions while maintain throwing posture and looking downfield.

Manning along with Brady does this very well. As one poster said it may look ugly to you, but it is good form and technique.

True they stay on their toes so that they can pivot to the right or left instead of standing flat footed it also allows them to move around inside the pocket better. More and more QB's are doing this.

You can look in the mirror with that comment. He's a freaking computer on the field and you say he's not very bright?
Unbelievable.
You may want to re-think that commment. :)

Also, every single one of your football related QB comments are wrong. No, not happy feet...he was taught to do it that way for mutilple reasons. Poor passing form...good grief man, are you nuts? He has great form. And the herky jerky part is (in part) to keep the defenses confused. Ask anone playing against him and you'll know that he is outragiously effective and their worst nightmare.

If you visually just don't like to watch him, that's cool. But that is just you personal taste, not his problems.

Having said that, I'm happy for Brees and the Saints and I wanted them to win.

Whoever taught him how to move his feet was a horrible coach. Have never ever seen another QB hop around like he does in the pocket. How come Montana, Marino, Elway, Aikman, Favre, Brady, Big Ben, Young, Rivers, Brees never hopped around in the pocket like Manning does. First, every defense stopped listening his fake calls 2 years ago. He is not a bright guy. Romo is smarter than him.

What are you talking about?

I expected him to do what every other QB that I know of including Staubach has done after a Super Bowl.

If others have done what Manning did...let me know and I'll take it back.

Are you serious? Manning not bright?

He pretty much runs that offense and is the most prepared QB in the league. He's also one of the best, if not THE best at reading defenses and and audibling into successful new plays.

If you don't like Manning, that's fine and it's certainly your perogative, but don't make silly statements that "he's not bright."

Terry Bradshaw leaps and bounds better than Peyton will ever be and he is not that bright either. He has been self deprecating about is not bright. I am not referring to Hollywood Henderson's famous quote that Terry could not spell "cat" given the c and the t. Bradshaw called his own plays too. Romo smarter than Peyton Manning.

That wasn't too bright on Hollywood's part.

The level is silliness in this post is beyond description.

If you hate Peyton Manning, just say so. I can understand that.

But trying to substantiate your hatred towards him by the manner above just makes YOU look like the guy whose not too bright. Your post makes no sense at all.

Just say you can't stand him and be done with it.

I don't remember much of the game, but I'm going to go ahead and give anyone who's just lost a Super Bowl a pass on meaningless acts of sportsmanship.

Well said. Great sportsmen hate to lose, and Payton Manning is still one of the best QBs in the game, if not the best.

I agree it would have been nice for Manning to search out Brees, and offer his congratulations, but looking at the field, how hard would that have been?

That was not my point. If shaking his hand meant respect or disrespect to Brees or Payton personally, I would say yes, do it. But overall in the real (not superficial world) that we live in, it did not. He gave those guys all kinds of respect and even went beyond that by contacting them after the game. They were not offended, so why should we be? If the tables were turned, Manning, I'm sure, would not have been offended either.

My point was, just because it looks good to you (or, actually me too) for him to do it does not mean it's right or wrong to those involved. In other words, he's not going to do it just to make you personally happy...it would have not value at all then (hebce style over substance).

Okay...so that clears it up. You could have just said that from the start instead of trying to rationalize it. It's okay to not like someone, I guess.
