That was insanity. The one drive where they moved it down to the 15 yard line with Zeke in the backfield then subbed in Vaughan had me throwing things at my TV. That was a chance to cut it to a one score game with our power back in the game and we sub in a 175 pound scatback. A back that needs space in the toughest area of the field to find it. Made zero sense and almost immediately left me thinking "Okay we have accepted losing today to break tendencies for later in the season."
Back to Tolbert though.. I think the main reason he has not had a full game of ballin is he's been the 4th or 5th option in the offense at best so far. That catch might elevate him some and give McCarthy and Dak confidence to take more shots with him if they see him one on one. The kid can clearly run because he was pulling away from that DB before he had to slow down to track the ball. He's also a smooth strider so DBs can't tell how fast he's running just by looking at him. That's a HUGE advantage believe me. He is not as versatile as Cedric Wilson but their games are similar in the receiving aspect. There's a lot to like. Not sure if he ever becomes a true #1 but I see him as a possible 10 year veteran at the #2 slot with 1 or 2 games a year over 100 yards with multiple TDs because the other team's #2 corner is no match for him. Kinda like Alvin Harper was. I hear the Gallup comparisons but I think he's a little less "stiff" when running than Gallup was and as I said has a much smoother gait. As well as I think a more diverse route tree. When all is said and done I think he will become a more complete receiver than MG.
Maybe on the tobert thing I don't know let's just see what he does if he slipped into the full time 3 but I think he needs to have cooks' opportunities or it's going to be hard to tell..
Oh I already know Mike McCarthy is lost in how to use a running back by committee he either needs a strong running back he can rely on for three downs or he's lost he does not use Vaughn correctly ever I mean even if he wanted to bring him in was I can live with you need to have some motion and get him to the outside, he did this last year he couldn't get it right between Rico and Tony he never used Vaughn right he didn't use turban enough so I'm starting to not like Mike McCarthy the offensive coordinator is Dink and dunk, it's working the edges all the time he literally doesn't seem to stretch the field at all he's happy with these time consuming drives it seems like he's trying to protect the defense in these games and maybe he is but I just don't see it he doesn't know how to use the running back by committee he doesn't know how to use these players the way I think Andy Reid could use these players I think Turpin and Vaughn could be very effective if used correctly..
He seemed OK just running the ball into the teeth of the defense when they were letting you seemingly throw the ball downfield but we never did they brought everything up to stop the run to stop the over the middle chunk yards and they're saying go ahead test us deep and then never have I mean it's I almost never see many deep passes in our last two offenses where are they?
I did read a tweet the other day Mina kimes says that the NFL seems to be turning into a dink and dunk because of the two deep high safeties and they're forcing the ball underneath, and the big plays are becoming less and less because they just don't want to allow them.. she's showing that each year has been getting smaller the yards per throw have been shrinking...
