Coming from Alabama to the Cowboys would be a demotion. Nick Saban is not stupid.

Saban has already proven he's much better suited as a college coach than an NFL coach.

Compare his record at Alabama with his 2 years with the Dolphins. He left the Dolphins because the NFL wasn't working out for him he was 6-10 his final year in Miami. He's been very successful since he went back to coaching college football. Some good college coaches just aren't suited for the NFL game and Saban is one of them even he recognized it.

Now that we're back to the 4-3, I'm pretty sure Zimmer's coming back. BROZ! Who's with me?

Two words: Vic Fangio. SF brought in Mangini knowing Fangio will be sought after as a HC and they needed someone in place who could succeed Fangio as DC.

I agree with the OP that the current head coach is hamstrung and will likely get carted off soon.

It's a HORRIFIC way to begin a season by creating such an undertow circling the legs of your leader. But then that's Jerry.

We don't need any other teams to beat our Cowboys. Jerry does it all by himself.

As one of my old-school law professors would say,

no need to add that. you should consider him bad enough for destroying this franchise.

Bill Belichick flopped in Cleveland. He was flopping in New England too until Tom Brady arrived.

If Garrett goes next year, the Walrus will be your new head coach.

From his years in college where he built MSU, LSU then Bama into powerhouses.

Saban would be stupid to give up the biggest edge in the world for acquiring talent to go to a league where it's all fair play rules.

He is making as much money at Bama as he'd make in the NFL and has a chance to build a legacy rivaling Bear Bryant. Even if he comes to the NFL and wins a handful of titles as best he's Jimmy Johnson. Pointless.

He's more likely to run for Governor of Alabama which he could win running as a democrat then he is to go back to the NFL.

If we are no better than .500 Garrett goes imho

Of the guys on staff I think Marinelli is the likeliest choice. The players witht he loudest voices will be Romo, Tyron, Ware, Spencer, Lee, Mo, Carter, Dez. That's probably a lot of votes for Marinelli.

Cowher is not an option. He is a 3-4 guy and he's been away from football too long. He knows the game but not the current situations or players as well as you'd like.

Gruden would get consideration and his time working with ESPN and QBs especially would help. As of course would his Tampa 2 defensive staff being in place. This looks like a Gruden staff. I could see Marinelli getting an interim gig if the start is bad and then Gruden coming in but keeping Marinelli over the off-season.

A college coach who might take this gig is Bob Stoops. He's done well at OU but is merely being good, not consistently great. He could take the escape hatch to the Cowboys and even some ardent Sooner fans would be OK with that as most are also Cowboys fans.

I don't think the Jerry stuff today was a mistake. I think Garrett made the mistake not spilling about Callahan earlier. BP got away with that type of control over Jerry but Jerry wasn't gonna let that happen and especially not from a coach winning half his games. Jason could have simply made the statement Callahan would be the primary play caller and moved on. Had Garrett stated he'd reserve the right to call plays in spots but left the main focus to Callahan back at rookie OTAs we'd have all taken that and moved on. Since Jerry forced the issue it was clear what was going to happen anyway.

Leaked board: I think it was intentional and I can see why. The team was on board together after the draft but the media and fans still act like this was some Jerry dictatorship. It wasnt. There was a discussion and a decision was made. 20 minutes after the decision everyone was moving forward with the rest of the draft. Once we got guys the scouts and Garrett both loved who was left to complain exactly? Thus the leaked board which is basically saying shut the heck up, we got guys we loved throughout the draft and into UDFA.

I don't think any team, much less Dallas, is going to go all-in on Marinelli after the way his DET tenure ended. That guy's a career coordinator now.

Lovie Smith, though, teamed with Marinelli as DC, makes a lot of sense if we're looking to make a change next season. Problem with that, though, is we'll still need a new OC, and Lovie's track record in that department is not very good. I guess Callahan could step in there, but if Garrett's fired, it's probably going to be in large part due to disappointment with the offensive team in the first place.
