Nope.

I think if Garrett doesn't make the playoffs this year, it's Lovie Smith's turn.

Remember, Jerry wanted him back when Parcells retired but Chicago had him under contract. The Bears knew this and IIRC, quadrupled Smith's salary.

Now you have Kiffin and Marinelli on the defense.

YR

It makes perfect sense. Otherwise any new headcoach will bring new coaches/system next year. I like Lovie Smith

Now that I think about it, Lovie Smith would be the early favorite to be the next HC. Most of his staff would already be in place on the defensive side of the ball.

The problem I have with Lovie is he failed miserably in finding an offensive guy to run that side of the ball and it was part of his downfall here. Every Bears fan I know here LOVED the guy and thought players followed him. He just made bad hiring choices. I like the idea, I just think there has to be a perfect fit on O.

That won't be a problem withh us with our GM/OC JJ handling the offensive side with Bill Callahan. Joking aside, I see your point but he emphasizes on power running and took a team with Rex Grossman as QB to SB. So we just have to be lucky that Defense, Specail teams will be very good and with Tony and the weapons we have on Offense, we can get through

He was hamstrung by some bad personnel decisions on that side of the ball too.

Chris Williams AND Gabe Carimi in the first round?

Oh dear.

True Brady saved Belichick but the big difference between him and Saban is Belichick has always coached in the NFL. Belichick started coaching in the NFL in 79 and had great success as the Giants DC helping NY win 2 SB's. Other than 5 years with the Browns having limited success as their DC and 2 seasons with the Dolphins as their HC Saban has spent his entire coaching career in college. He started in 1970 as a college coach. A college coach is what he is and that's what he enjoys. If a coach isn't cut out for the pro game it's not going to work.

Saban is meant to coach college kids, he found out the hard way that you can't treat 30 year old millionaires like 19 year olds.

Nick and I are best friends, but seriously if he ever left bama, I think his ego is big enough to want this job.

Saban may come here but he wouldn't last. Not because he's a bad HC but with the present DC management/egos he would have to contend with, it would be a short tenure. Only if JJ had a lobotomy, would Saban last as a DC HC.

I don't think it would work either, but I do think if offered he would take it.

jason Garrett actually won me over yesterday.

I have been down on the guy, but yesterday although many think it was a bad day for him I think it was a good day.

They were there with the shovels, the usual guys in the room needed their fix of controversy and complaining and they showed up to bury him.

but he stood there and gave them nothing and then won the room over at the end....That is big to me. If that is the guy we get all summer, because this will not go away then garrett will be doing a great job.

And brad sham said today when he tweeted that garrett hired the offensive assistants he did to work with callahan and his offense. So it was his decision and he was a big part of it.

Jimmy adjusted though, he knew well enough not to battle the star players, saban didn't.

Yes and no, He left Irvin at the airport when he showed up late even despite the fact that he was told Irvin had arrived. Sometimes even star players need to be read the riot act from time to time. Only one can be in charge and that is the HC. Guys want to be treated like men then act like men. How much you get paid should have nothing to do with anything.

Your right, sometimes they need to be read the riot act, but not on an everyday occurrence. It sounded like saban constantly picked fights with the star players during his time in Miami.

And Jimmy wielded a big ax when he came to Dallas. Heck given the condition of the Dolphins when he got there maybe they deserved it. He could have just gone in there and started chopping off heads instead.

Heck the league is filled with big ego prima donna's even guys on losing teams and something they need to know that their **** does stink and either things will be done my way (Head Coach) or it is the highway.

Saban did not stay in Miami long enough to know how he would have adjusted or not but one thing for sure Miami needed a shake up and still does.

Jimmy did in his time in Miami too. Marino and Jimmy were oil and water.

I liked what Garrett did yesterday too. He took a lot of abuse but largely stuck to his guns then had a laugh at Jerry's expense which was well-earned for taking that media beatdown.

Actually, Belichick started coaching in the NFL as a gofer/assistant under Ted Marchibroda with the Colts in 1975. He then worked under Floyd Peters as a defensive assistant (Peters was the defensive coordinator) in Detroit, then spent a year in Denver in 1978 before going to the Giants.

Correct I meant 75 not 79.

Exactly! He treated one rookie like a college kid or more like a 10 year old and caused him to cry. You can't come at a veteran player like that and gain their respect.

Marino was on the downside of his career that didn't help their relationship.
