I understand no big FA's, but why no trades?

One more thought on the Elay trade or trading for DE

If I'm trading for a DE, Demarcus Lawrence will then be my LDE, not my RDE. If your not a better RDE then Lawrence, then Im not interested in spending a draft pick to trade for you

I understand our free agent philosophy of not spending big. But why not explore the trade market more aggressively. NE traded its 2nd rounder for DE Kony Ealy and CAR's 3rd rounder. That's 8 spots for a former second round DE who was a terror in the Super Bowl. I realize he's only averaged 5 sacks per year, but he is young, at a position of need, and has a cap hit of only $800K this year (free agent next year). Just wondering why we are not more creative on the trade front?
2 words......jones boys !

I think the op was not saying we should have done this deal or get a de specifically, but should be able to make some deals
like this.
it could be any draft pick, not just a 2nd. and for any position of need.

I guess that you forgot that Jerry traded H.Walker and it lead to 3 Super Bowls.

That was so long ago I was in diapers at the time... And I'm turning 30 this year.

Since the glory days we haven't done much, and a lot has changed since then.

NE is a coaching/FO machine. If NE has a need, they find veteran "misplaced" players who have still have ability and a team winning mentality. They evaluate players who will buy in and coach them up (back to their potential ability) to make them an assets to the team. If they pan out, they stay. If not, they let them go early on not wasting time.
I think we are trying this methodology however we have some kinks in our machine which is evaluating vets that fit, our "coach up" ability and our FO mentality to efficiently keep or let players go.

And Brady at QB and the Emperor pulling the defensive strings covers a lot of mistakes.
