I agree Ranching. He's more than the 50 yards a game he gives you.
He's the locker room barometer.
He's the good teammate.
He's the mood setter.
He's the guy that does whatever you ask that they don't have metrics for.
Troy Aikman agrees....

“I’ve talked to a number of people that have been in that locker room- coaches, players- and he’s the glue,” the Hall of Famer continued. “Losing those type of players- I’ve said it before- you don’t replace those guys. It’s really, really hard. We had some when I was playing: didn’t contribute much on the field during the games- he obviously would contribute more- but those that didn’t, they had a really big role in allowing us to do what we were able to do, and I think Zeke’s one of those people.”
And what did all that contribute to in the Cowboys win over San Fran in January?

Exactly.

Vet minimum or close to it and I'd bring him back. He ran for 12 TDs last season. His knock is he wears down as the season progresses. How does he fare with 1/4 or less of the carries he's had throughout his career? Would've rather drafted a replacement, but unless we plan on trading for a guy like Henry, we need another back. Ron Jones isn't that guy imo and Deuce shouldn't have a prominent role in our offense.

There is a major hole in the roster for someone who averages a blade of grass per carry?
Some would say you need a running back capable of pass protecting, running short yardage, and possessing veteran experience. I don’t know though, seems pretty insane.

Dallas is a Tony Pollard injury away from rolling with Ronald Jones, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn at RB.

2 of those 3 are unknown commodities and the other couldn’t even get on the field in a middling KC RB rotation last season.

Major hole???

You want to be a Tony Pollard injury away from rolling with Ronald Jones, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn at RB?

2 of the 3 are unknown commodities and the other couldn’t even get in the game at KC. There is a real need for added RB depth whether it is Zeke or another player.

Ronald Jones > Present day Zeke

…for a fraction of the cost

I know a little football and I think Zeke can still serve a purpose. With a good contract and a new direction, he can really help.
At this stage, I see him as a great short yard, tough runner...which we don't have....I also see him as an HBack type player...he's a good blocker...part time fullback and he can actually line up on the flex TE position....he had great hands.....I'd love this role for him.....my bud @CowboyRoy is gonna kill me, but that's my take.
You want Zeke?
In the ring?
Like Ali wanted Joe Frazier?

I'm going to be honest.
Gotta bet on you homie.
I think you have the desire and the ability to wear him out.
You got range.
Tough it up a bit and take him down in the 7-9th rounds.

I got you!
We'll discuss strageties over tequila and tequila.
And brother, do I have strageties.
Especially after a tequila and a tequila.

I know a little about football and relying on retreads and not working in the youth is foolish.
With fans such as the OP and owner chaps such as Jerald, we are doomed.

i would take all 3 of the aforementioned backs over Zeke at this point.

If you look at the stats, none of our backs had a good day.
What I see is the 49ers planned to stop the run and make Dak beat them.
And that's what they did.

You could take the video posted the other day and say Zack Martin didn't pick up the blitz at the 9:00 minute mark causing Dak to miss CeeDee over the middle.
(Same play Zeke was wide open in the flats at the 42 but Dak is focused on Lamb......didn't even see Zeke)

Then you could say football is a team game. No one player wins or loses by themselves.
Some days a player is the goat; some days he's the skunk.
You never hear teams say we lost because of (player name).
They win together. They lose together.
Fans assign blame. And coaches say, "The buck stops here."

Your choice.

You saw incorrectly. Thats the opposite of what the niners did on defense.

You don't take a player like Zeke who has been the best at every level he's played and turn him into a bit-role player. I don't think he would accept that. It's like telling Kobe or Lebron to come off the bench and play 5 minutes a game. Not gonna happen.

I get your point but Zeke is not in the same stratosphere as the level of Kobe or Lebron. Zeke is at a level where it’s be fully justified to make him a bit player. However, I believe the Cowboys should pass.

The OP is a sterling example of the fan base that wrings its hands and stays up nights worrying about has-beens.
I salute Jerald for having the guts and savvy to unload Dez then Zeke.
So let go blokes, reload and look forward, not back.
