You make a lot of good points. You are also forgetting that players can improve with great coaching which I think Jameis had last year. We know he has a great arm, he did have a unique ability to throw int's two years ago. Players get better and improve over the years. He did also got lasik surgery for what that is worth.right and the saints are so confident in him for one its 5.5 12 is with all escalators, they signed THILL some oddball all voidable deal and now have 2 qbs..when you have two you have none..old adage it means they aren't sure about either..now stop drooling over other teams.. Winston played what 30 snaps in 292303 wow HOF bro..straight baller..his old teams now winning SBS with a stoic stand up in the pocket 43year old qb..lmao..
Jameis is sold very low end qb..dude failed he was picked high and well laid an egg compered to expectation..well at least 5.5 mil will keep him from front loading his pants with meat..
Having said all that, I think there is a precedence of overpaying good players and we see how that played out for several teams and I just dont see any different result for us.
Cousins, Wentz, Jimmy G, Goff, Bradford, Flacco,etc... They are all in Dak's level and none of them were worth the contract they got paid. Their current team has moved off from them, traded , cut, released.
If you look at the big picture we drafted a guy in the 4th round and got an above average value if not great value for the first 4 years at basically less than 1 million, even if you thrown in the franchise tag last year and the lost season, still a measly $5 million dollar per year average.
The smart team takes that asset and trades it or lets it walk. Go and find another 4th round pick or replacement level guy.
Dak is not elite, and I am not bad mouthing him by saying that. The league started overpaying QB's in 2012 and now that trend has subsided. As usual the Cowboys front office does not have their pulse on reality and will just follow the trend from 5 years ago. We need to Zig when the league is Zagging.
Also it's not like we are the Rams where we have no draft picks and very expensive superstars that HAVE to win now. They have no choice. They are doubling down on paying their guys and winning now. You know if they win a SB it was worth trading all their assets for that win.
We have not won squat in 26 years. Jerry does not believe in going all in anymore, he has too much to lose. He won't tank like he should have this year. Perfect, perfect opportunity.
This would have reset the organization. He doesn't want to go all out, and trade for Wilson which I also would have been ok with. The downside with trading for Russel would have been expensive but the team is not geared to win right now from the trenches perspective.
