I only know of two colors of apples and none of them are blue.

And I've never heard of candy apple green.

There's a web site with a Harley with "candy apple green."

You'll also see "candy apple gold."

And yes, Red.

Going further down you'll see "candy apple blue and pink."

It's a whole line of colors Rack. I've used more than one myself.

Have you ever seen a "BLUE" candy apple ?

Maybe in the paint industry its a new term.
But realistically, I have never seen a Blue candy apple.

Actually, the "candy" in candy apple red refers to the high sheen of the paint, the "apple red" refers to the hue of the color. You could conceivably have a Candy Blue, Candy Navy etc. Due to overwhelming popularity of the paint color candy apple red in the late 70's most paint manufacturers chose to drop the "candy" when designating the other color in the candy line.

3-stage paint has pretty much eliminated the candy lines anyway. Here are some examples of what I mean http://www.houseofkolor.com/hok/gallery/PPA/PP2005.jsp

Just FYI... I was bored so I thought I would clarify that.

Thank you. Better website than my fast look up and a better explanation too.

No problem!

I just get giddy when I actually have something of worth to contribute...LOL

Aint that a .

Candy apple, refers to type as opposed to color. Who Knew ?

A Purist wouldnt call anything candy apple unless it was red. Anything else seems to go under the "pearl" category (Black Cherry Pearl, for example, one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen on a '69 Camaro)

I did.

The original color was called that to match the color of the actual candy apples. But it became a brand not a color many years ago.

There are paint "purists?" Well, why not? I guess...

The candy refers to type, the apple does refer to color. Candy apple red was such a popular color that other colors in that group started using the apple designator as well. I agree that purists would never call candy green candy apple green.

BTW.... Pearl, is a flake that is added to clear coat, it has no bearing on the base color at all. It does however change the look of the paint in the sun. Pearl comes in a multitude of colors gold, silver, blue, red etc. If you are familiar with ghost flames, they are done in all pearlescent flakes. For example your black cherry pearl, is a cherry red base coat with a black pearl overlay. It is then called Black Cherry Pearl.

OK that is all I am going to say about painting... I will head back over to my automotive message boards. :D

GASP-

What has this forum come to? A long, drawn out discussion on paint names?
Please don't bring up the word Fuschia or I will throw up slightly.

I don't like the idea.

But I did it anyway.

I still don't like it.

Here.

Me and a fellow cowboy friend were watching the USC game tonight and got talkin about different NFL uni's...

So many teams have really brought their uni's into the future - with mostly positive effects.

We both love the Cowboys classic look, but agreed we might be due for a slight update in 09 when the new stadium opens in Arlington.

This may seem a bit odd, but i always thought the Vikings had ugly uniforms until i saw us play them in pre-season on HI-DEF tv... Their purple metallic helmets literally glistened on the screen, and thought - WOW - they don't look bad after all!!!

I was thinking about how it would be cool if we had a deep metallic navy blue helmet (think: candy apple navy with a hint of silver metallic to it) with a silver star outlined in white. I'm no good at photoshop, but i'd like to see what it could look like, cuz i think it could be cool and bold.

I'm not sure what color jersey we could wear with it, but maybe white or silver/grey with navy numbers outlined in white? (i definitely don't like the blue jerseys, either!!!)...

The only alternate jersey i've ever liked is our "double star" jersey circa 1994. (I believe we wore them in 1994?)

I mainly wonder what a navy helmet would look like with the "silver star"... i think it might be kind of "bold" looking... as an alternative to what surely has become a classic over the years.

Am i crazy? Am i committing sacrilege by thinking this way?.... :laugh2:

Thoughts???
Good luck getting ANY support here on this one.

This board has NO taste or eye for design.

What's the difference with the gray helmet?

It's the original, regular, and only cowboys helmet. for comparison.

I still hate it man. That idea is fugly.

The Cowboys unis are top notch and do not need to be changed. And Minny's uniforms suck -- what was wrong with their classic jerseys?
