Ideal scenario is Green Bay, Detroit, SF, Baltimore

Any scenario that puts us in SF for the NFC conference game is not a scenario I’m hoping for.
So you'd rather a scenario where another team is in SF for that game. This makes no sense. That's where we want to be if that is what it is. So sick of this fear of the Niners they aren't invincible. Not even close.

You do not like the idea of the Cowboys beating the best competition that is also playing great? Isn’t that the most enthralling?

Troy Aikman and the Cowboys going to SF and beating the favored Steve Young/Jerry Rice and company in a well played game by both teams. Had to be the most satisfying win I can vividly remember.
I don't give a damn about that. We haven't been to a con championship or super bowl in over 20 years. Can we get there before we start being picky about who we play? If the afc team makes it to the super bowl are they not worthy? I don't care if the steelers make it. That means they beat a bunch of teams. Why should I feel less about that match-up than Bills/Chiefs? That's ridiculous

Players don't think like fans.

Nate Newton was talking a couple weeks ago about the SB XXX run. He said they were celebrating when Green Bay upset the Niners, because they could play at home and knew they could beat Green Bay. The Niners had beaten them the last two times they played and they were glad to not have to deal with them.

Roger Staubach has never spent a minute lamenting who Dallas played to win SB XII. He knows how hard it is to win one, having gotten there 4 times and lost twice.

Dallas won SB XII by beating legendary QBs Bob Avellini, Bob Lee, and Craig Morton/Norris Weese.

That they didn't have to go through Tarkenton, Stabler, or Bradshaw doesn't lessen the achievement.
Yep. Eagles got to a Super Bowl playing Daniel Jones and Josh Johnson. No one remembers really who you beat to win it all, just the fact that you did win it all.

There's no such thing as a "more legitimate" Super Bowl win. You play whoever ends up in front of you.
Whatever you say. If a team wins each playoff game against a bunch of 3rd and 4th stringers, fans and the team will know that it was a win by default.

I always wanted to face the best competition in every major tournament I played in (for any sports competition). I am extremely competitive and it felt better when I got to face competition that did not feel inferior-they pushed me and I pushed them.

Maybe not, but I can imagine that beating those big name QB’s that same year even if they played their best would have felt even more satisfying.
I have witnessed every playoff game and championship in Cowboys history. I can’t tell you who all they beat to get there, but I can recall (with glee) every win. Just win the game…that’s what you’ll remember down the road.

It’s false bravado to say bring on the 49ers. Dallas has a matchup problem against them, nothing more and nothing less.
SF is a matchup problem for most teams. Which is why they are good and have made it to two straight NFCCG (and why they have beaten Dallas three straight times). Beating a team like that on the biggest stage should feel very satisfying for fans and the team.

You're going to extremes now. Obviously if every game is against backups it's an issue. But if we play rams or bucs round 2 why should I feel less about that than Detroit/Philly? That would mean they literally just beat those teams anyway lol.

Let me start with-I hope the Cowboys win the Super Bowl this season. However, if I got to write the story before it happened, then….

As a fan, I’ve always liked the team I’m cheering for to win biggest games against the best teams and everyone from both teams playing their best. My ideal scenario for a Cowboys’ Super Bowl is to face the best teams in the NFC followed by facing the best team from the AFC-and winning. It’s more fun, exciting-and SATISFYING than beating a team with tons of critical injuries or beating inferior teams.

It also feels more legitimate. Beating a very good SF is very important for this club to feel like they are graduating to the next level (the quality of the team plus the recent past). Dallas has been a tier two team (there are many) the previous three seasons, and played like it in the regular season and playoffs. We all want them to become the best team-not just be the most fortunate. The easiest path should never be desired from fans that can actually stomach the team losing. Just play your best ball and see where it takes you.
Good lord no. The ideal is Packers, Bucs, Rams, Steelers.

Of course you want the easiest path.

The team won't care and neither will most fans. You play who you play - you have no control over that.
You may not control it, but I’m certain you are wrong about most of the players. They want to face the best and win. It’s literally the reason so many of them are obsessed with being the greatest player they can be.

Haha that's ridiculous. If SF gets eliminated before the Cowboys have to play them, I guarantee every Cowboys player will be thrilled about it.

Hopefully we are treated to really good football where Dallas wins anyway. I would not love it quite so much if all the other teams had lots of injuries and Dallas basically coasted to a Super Bowl win.
I get where you're coming from but I was 5 the last time they won and don't remember anything about it so watching the Cowboys breeze through the playoffs against 4 injury riddled teams sounds good to me.

I presented a specific example to the contrary, but okay.

Players want to win a Super Bowl. None of them will ever sit around thinking "Gee, I wish the one seed hadn't got upset before we could play them." The ring is the same.
