If Dak has a year like last year, this will be his final year with the team

I know Dak threw a lot of INTs, and pick 6's, but he had some good plays too!

People act like last season was a bad season.

We played in a divisional playoff game. That's a great season!

I'd be thrilled if Dak were here 5 more years, and they were all identical to last year.

You don't think Houston or Washington would sign up for that?

People are so focused on the teams better than us.. Try focusing instead on the teams that are WORSE than us. I mean, when you want to feel good about ur wife or girlfriend, do you go stare at girls that are Perfect 10s and WAY out of your league? I hope not. Turn on "My 600 LB Life" and watch a few minutes of that instead. Then ur significant other will start looking pre-tay, pre-tay, pre-tay, pretty good.

Ill turn on dak the moment they have another QB better. Bring it on!!
Nobody has “turned on Dak”……he just hasn’t delivered and this FO won’t ever bring in any competition at quarterback while Dak has this fat contract. It’s Rayne Dakota or bust

nothing personal……..just business

nobody turned on Zeke either……his play just fell off so it’s next man up.

The practice squad QB went 4-1 last season. The other guy didn't win 12 games with the team last season. Embarrassing yet expected that his desperate fans include wins that had nothing to do with him. He was nursing his thumb at the time whilst Rodgers sucked it up and carried on playing with his broken thumb. Even A Rod has a stronger mentality than #4

They clearly don't remember the "dark times" after Aikman retired. The list of QB's after him until Romo is probably what it will be like again. Maybe not but count me as not emphatically rooting for those times again. I need to see another QB clearly ready to go.
It dark days started after the last SB. Aikman sucked after that, until Romo came along. And fans on this board wanted him out. Now Dak, and fans want him out too.

His problem is that he can play like a top 3 quarterback and then the very next game play towards the bottom 25. Over half of last year he looked like a deer in the headlights. I don't know if it was Kellen Moore's overly complicated offense or what but we need more consistency if we're going to devote such a large portion of the salary cap. He held out for what, 3 years, only to reward us with this? Either figure things out this year, or go play like that somewhere else.

Only in Dallas, the fans want to get rid of the qb that led them to back to back 12 wins season. He didn't fare well in the SF game, but he didn't have much help after Pollard went down. The week before he annihilated the Tom Brady led team.
That's the problem. Everything has to be perfect around him or he crumbles. The problem with that is, he gets paid 44 million a year. We can't surround him with all the All Pro talent that He needs. Everyone saw that coming in except for him. I hope he didn't see it. Because if he did that's pretty selfish.

BWAAAAA!!!! You never turned on him because you thought he was back up material from the first year. The year he won rookie of the year. You have been dead wrong ever since.

Many turned on Zeke. I was the first to call his demise. Just like I was the first to realize the talent in Pollard.

A day in the life eh? If only you knew football like that?

Apparently he's not the only one! Allen in Buffalo, Hebert in LA get praised as elite, but haven't done a damn thing. Maybe they need more talent! Even Rodgers needed more talent last year, and Brady did too! Or are all those losses on the team?

bahahahhahahhaha.... do you even pay attention to this team??? Dak is likely to have an extension done right as we head into training camp.

What world are you living in?
I wouldn’t venture Latin is one of the most informed zoners. I don’t think dak is gone until he retires that’s the cowboy way but Latin knows his ****.

Per Spotrac, Dak's cap hit for 2024 is $59 million, in round numbers. Only $26 million, in round numbers for this year.
HIs dead cap for 2024 is near $60 million. So what does that mean?

To me it means Jerry and Stephen were intending to give him an extension all along, $26 mil is not high for a qb these days, so this year he'll be sticking around for that reason. And will Dallas absorb a $60 mil dead cap next year? Can't see that at all. Won't take a $59 million cap hit in 2024, either.

And we all know, or should know, that Jerry is loath to admit he made a mistake, until it's "plain as the nose on your face". To this point Dak hasn't been another Rodgers, or Manning (Payton), or Mahomes or the like, but then neither has he been a Lynch, or Cook, or such. In other words he's been good enough to give Jerry some hope he'd bring home the bacon, or at least get to the level of an Allen or even a Goff.

Dak's not been bad enough for Jerry to give up on him, so he'll keep hoping against hope Dak can either improve enough to make a serious playoff run, or that he can build a defense good enough so that Dak doesn't have to improve, just be the proverbial bus driver and ride the defense to a SB win.

Don't think Dak's going anywhere soon. I could be wrong, of course, but that's how I see it....

I think Allen has made it to the AFC Championship game twice. Don't quote me on that though. We can't get two good games back to back from our quarterback. Especially not in the playoffs.

He's still making mistakes that rookies make. Throwing into triple coverage? Not seeing the whole field? We can draft someone in the 7th round to do that and Save 44 million a year. We can sign an undrafted player again. He needs to figure out which Dak he wants to be every game and then go from there.

Games where he does that always follow an outstanding game where he likes the other team up. I don't know if it's mental, if he thinks he can relax after a good week, but he looks lost out there a lot of the times. Worse than a rookie.

Oh, I agree, for the most part, with your analysis.

But my comment had nothing to do with Dak's play, his contract, as it stands now, and the way Jerry looks at things was what I was noting.

I think he had too much freedom under Moore. He's not good enough to have that amount of control. I think if MM can go back to 2016s philosophy with the defense they got now, I think that's your winner.
I'm not opposed to the "weapons free" approach when necessary. He's shown the ability to light up a scoreboard. I do agree that too much freedom has led to carelessness and unnecessary mistakes. We don't need to hit the big play every down. We need to control the clock and keep the defense fresh. The makeup of this team screams ball control, playaction offense and overwhelming defense. Like you, I hope MM sees this and sticks to the formula.

Prescott was outplayed by Purdy last season whilst Allen has to get past Mahomes to reach the Superbowl every season.

It's a team game yet the supposed advantage at QB heading into the 49ers play off game turned into a weakness for the Cowboys!

Dak is one of the best qbs in the league when he's on. But when he's off it's bad. There's alot more good than bad. Just happens that his bad has come when it meant the most.

Houston would sign up for drafting as well as the Cowboys in recent years to build strong, highly competitive rosters. They wouldn't want to be kneecapped by Prescott's contract.

Great post I completely agree with the OP - do not be fooled by the extension that’s just to make it easier to release him.

He has 61 mil still guaranteed, and a 59mil cap hit next yr.

He has $31M guaranteed money left on his contract. There won't be any guaranteed money after this season( 2023 ). Yes, 2024 shows a base salary of $29M but none of that is guaranteed. Remember the total G-money in the contract $126M. Spotrac clearly shows the final payment of $31M puts his total cash payout at $126M.

As for his extension and/or whether or not this is his last season. I think it will come down to what he wants and how much/far Jerry and Stephen are willing to go. I'm pretty sure he's going to ask for the top 5 money min, maybe closer to the top 3.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-...Contract,average annual salary of $40,000,000.
