If Dak struggles like he did in 2019, how long before Dalton steps in?

Dak
Dak did not play well vs good teams in 2019. If he plays under the tag, the Cowboys are not bound to him long term.
At what point do you think he would be pulled?
I think that Dalton would get a shot if the Cowboys struggle to a .500 mark after 8 games, or if the Cowboys were to go into a three game losing streak early in the season.
How much leeway do you think McCarthy will give him if he is struggling?

Troll headline but …….

The answer is when he's moving on from Dak and JJ has decided he's not going to sign him long term.

The actual point you make is fairly reasonable.

We are capable of losing first 3 games (Rams, Falcons, Seahawks) and possibly start 4-4.

IF the loses are down to personnel deficiencies (which cant be rectified via the draft/trade).

If MM thinks the need to improve areas (secondary, LB) is more important than signing Dak long term.

In these circumstances it would be conceivable that MM benches Dak so that he at least see Dalton play.

The lack of CAP flexibility is a concern.

25% of the games last year Dak had 0 TD passes. This is a valid question. But unfortunately Dak will be given every opportunity because of the money he is getting paid along with everyone else blamed before Dak!

We probably lost a good 4 games from coaching.

Garrett *so* deserved to be sent packing.
YEP, at bare minimum, if we won 2 of those games with better coaching, we make the playoffs, win the division and who knows. The complicit jackassery by Jerrah allowing this farce of a HC and staff to overstay its welcome was stunning. This current staff couldn't be more different than the last. Night and day. Which makes me wonder, how much patience will JJ and Stevie have with MM and his guys? They clearly do things their own way.

circle back to who the HC and DC was. There in lies the answer. Special teams did Dak no favors either. Can't expect any QB to be on 100% of the time and expect him to drive the team 80 yards every dang time. Thats not how FB works. Its the ultimate team game. ALL 3 PHASES.

The only way Dalton gets in a game is if he pulls a Tonya Harding on Dak's knee.

Here's another ironic stupid suggestion.

Prescott gets hurt in the preseason. Dalton is the starter and plays at an MVP level. Prescott returns healthy, but no one wants to mess with the team mojo. So Dalton remains the starter. Dallas makes the playoffs, obviously the one seed. Dalton as usual loses in the playoffs, Dallas is one and done AGAIN. There is an immediate controversy on why Prescott wasn't put back in when healthy. Prescott is pissed and retires from football.

I don't think this could EVER happen!!! Quite implausible.

The fake put on "meritocracy" of the Dallas Cowboys continues...lol :)

I have no problem turning to Dalton if Dak is holding out, injured, etc. However, Dalton hasn't had a winning record in 5 seasons. Yes not the best talent around him, but clearly the Bengals didn't think he was right QB to right the ship.

Dak isn't getting benched.... Most QBs don't perform as well against good defenses. Dak had a few bad games last year, but only one did he throw multiple Ints. The idea that Dak's play is on the verge of getting him benched when he was desginated with a franchise tag and talking a long term extension over 30 million a season tells you everything you need to know about benching.

never. Dalton is a washed up hag, pretending to be a starting QB, who is now on his last fumes and on his way out of the league or bouncing between teams and most probably retiring in two years, when he finds out nobody wants him

it seems Dak signing his tender has upset you quite a bit since your Dak attack rhetoric and non-sense has increased quite a bit a lately.

you failed. yet again.

put the whiskey down....don't miss your AA meetings

Legitimate question .Especially after the Dak the contract negotiation saga and the fact Dak wants to be paid as top QB and NFL player .

Dak has struggled against decent teams , he was 1-6. Did not throw one TD against saints , patriots or eagles in the finale , so it was not always the defensive issues with the cowboys .

MM will give Dak every chance to succeed , but if the bye comes around and the cowboys are close to .500 , watch out .

Many fans will start clamoring for dalton the If Dak struggles again , you can count on it , now that we have a legit back up . Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
And we know that the coaching staff will listen to us fans. They could give a rats hairy petute what us fans have to say. Dalton is a backup qb and that's all. If Dak gets injured, he's in, if not, he will sit on the sideline like a backup qb is supposed to do. Pretty simple.

It's a legitimate question.
If Dak plays like he did in 2019, at some point we have to try someone else.
This is why so many of us lobbied against giving him a long term deal.
struggled? how....the guy who was
#2 passer!
4th in TD passes!
4th in QBR

I knew your football knowledge was limited...but didn't think it was this bad...

5K YARDS passing...YEP...BETTER BENCH HIM.
Yeah, honestly, not a Dak believer but there is no way he is benched with the numbers he put up last year, no matter if he struggles against a few teams.

That said, if he is playing under the tag and the Front office is starting to question whether they are signing him long term - that would be a different story.

Jerry and Big Mike already have agreed that in all probability Dalton will be replacing Dak just a matter of correct timing here.
These Dak-Trolls think we're going to sit and get beat up by quality teams because Dak can only produce minimal points aka Field Goals or beat up on dog teams.
Good luck with that as the STAR :star:bows for no one including Mr.Prescott!!!!!
so can you enlighten us puppydog when Jerry and Mike decided this? you seem to be in the know with cowboys and seemingly know quite a few in the organization....

If Dak goes into camp on the tag then all bets are off, Dalton will be given a shot to win the job. If Dak gets a long term deal then he is the starter period even if we go 2-14, there is no way the Cowboys would make the kind of investment in Dak that has been talked about and then replace him, it won't happen. But playing on the tag is an entirely different ballgame
