If I Am Dak, My Price Just Went Up To $45 A Year

The team is easily 3-4 years away from contending, with Dak or without. This is not a quick fix. The offensive line likely needs an upgrade at LG and a new starting LT. Almost the entire defense needs to be replaced or upgraded. The end.

Dak is neither Drew Brees or Russell Wilson with regards to his status in the NFL spectrum. Both are SB winning QB's and have historically been some of the best QBs ever. Yes, not always but still. Those guys always get paid.

If the franchise looked like they did last year with a healthy line, I would not expect more than average performance as it stands. MM and company don't seem to be bringing anything extra. Better to blow the whole thing sky high, and hope that when the poop really hits the fan, that Jones and company actually submit.

You do not need 22 pro bowlers to contend. The offense is largely fine. Are some of the players up there in age? Yes but the offense is largely fine and would continue to be fine with additional players added.

The defense does need some stud players. , but it is not AS bad as it is. I put a lot of this on Nolan considering having all time bad defenses seems to be his thing, but even still they need 1-2 secondary players and 3-4 in the front 7 of which ideally 1 of each is a high pick. If the team can load up heavy on defense next year and the following year it is possible to be relevant in 2022. Yes this season is a wash and likely next season as well but they do not need longer to rebuild because half the team is still very solid.

Other than blindly pick the Boys to win each week I do not normally post on the site much.
However, if this team pays Dak anywhere near that cash we are dead. This team is so poor and has so many holes ( along with a pack of poor coaches) that it needs to be completely rebuilt. Ideally from the top down but that ain't gonna happen as the Jones boys are like that stuff you cant get off your shoe.
The Cowboys are a hyped up nothing team. They have been for years, mainly by a media that sells clicks with the boys, a front office that needs to keep the dream alive and a bunch of fans that take anything negative about the cowboys as a personal attack on their team/ favourite player/ manhood.
It pains me to say it but todays loss was a disgrace and it needs a total change. For those who disagree , please keep taking the bs that has been fed fans for a generation or more, I wont take it any more.
I have nothing against Dak but this team cant win with a $ 40m QB, it needs not only two stellar drafts at a high draft number but in the short term a number of good defensive free agents to have many chance of going deep in the play offs.
Martin and Smith are on the decline and as we have seen the rest are poor at best, the defence is a joke, we have below average TE''s and the most over rated, over paid RB in the league.
I have supported this team for almost 40 years, spent thousands going to games ( I am in the uk) and even in the bad days of 89 i had hope with the pick of aikman. I can't see us winning much more this year and a high draft pick should be assured. Use it wisely and spend some draft and free agency and we might still stink but these seasons of hype and failure are even worse. Some of you may like winning the East every few years and I dont, I want to be in the last 4 at worst. The SB is the goal.
Off to bed now as I have to work in the morning but this club needs a blow up and it needs it asap.

LT needs to be replaced in a couple years but it is not imminent. Again they did not have Tyron for most of the season and were still putting up historic numbers. Every LB is pushing it. If you are arguing it then we are back to wanting 22 Pro Bowl players. You generally find your big boy starters early in the draft but the 4th and 5th rounds can find suitable JAGS to play in between those guys.

Team wasn't going anywhere with Dak. That's not a criticism of Dak, it's a criticism of where we are as a franchise. What good is it to get bent over a barrel and pay Dak $45MM a year and then not surround him with better players? With the way our cap is structured now, if you overpay Dak, you are going to have a lopsided roster.

That's been Jerry's strategy for years. Have a few highly paid top players, fill up the rest of the roster with JAGs. Not sure how he thinks that will work, the 90's teams he's so proud of had a few stars and lots of above average players, with a few JAGS thrown in.

This strategy hasn't worked, is not working, and will never work...

So Dallas was still able to make Tony Romo the highest paid player in NFL history...and still, according to most, surround him with a championship roster. Heck, even the best roster in the NFL according to many in 2016. A roster that was "soooooo loaded that a throw-away 4th round, terrible rookie QB like Dak Prescott" could succeed in, right?

And this is the same GM, Owner, Front Office that gave Romo that deal.

So if Dallas was able to do it for Romo (and Dak is NEVER going to be the highest paid NFL player ever like Romo was), I see ZERO excuse for Dak.

The offense was the top offense in the league last year and was off to an even better start this year. Its complete nonsense to act like the offense is even in need of help when they were averaging over 30 points a game. OLine is ONLY looking bad because 3 pro bowlers are out which I would expect tot be the case. Lamb is doing fine. Cooper is signed for a bit and if they were to let him go they would keep Gallop instead so WR is fine. If they see a TE they can go for it but Schultz has been a pleasant surprise. Offense is more than good enough.

Exactly, look at Romo. Great player, but Jerry never really got serious about surrounding him with talent until it was basically too late. If I'm Dak, I want a ring. If I'm Dak, I'm looking for a team that's pretty much needing a QB to compete. Maybe a team like the Broncos who have a defence and could really use Dak. Maybe I'd look at taking my talents to the Saints and move back to Louisiana if Brees retires. Maybe I'd look into the Steelers if Ben decides to hang up the cleats after this season.
