They were historically bad two years in a row and it doesn't look like they have done enough to fix that.

It's not necessarily a career ender. People like McGahee and plenty of others have had this.

As for the impact, it's huge. All those INTs he gets are massive for this team. Now we're most likely going to have a very ordinary player there... Unless Carter moves there and steps up, which could happen.

Agree whole heartedly.

It really sucks.

Maybe Carter gets his act together, Claiborne develops into what we need him to be, and some guys on the DL develop....

A lot of ifs in there.... I'm just trying to cling to some hope.

This is how good Lee is when playing....
Despite all the missed time he STILL leads all NFL LBs in ints since 2010 with 11. Amazing.
Before going down last year,he 3rd in the league in tackles.

This guy is very valuable....when playing .

I do think the teams is in better shape now to adjust than last year.

It's not like we'd have much hope building through the draft either. A top 5 pick? That might be nice, but remember, Claiborne was taken 6th. Not to mention how Jerry likes to throw around 2nd/3rd round picks and reach for players in the 4th.

Bottomline is you have to know how to draft and work the draft. Even good teams find ways to have good drafts with picks at the bottom of each round. Bad teams find ways to blow picks even when drafting high. Seeing Jerry's drafts the last 20 years, I don't know if it'll matter much where we pick.

You have a point there. I just feel like we have to get worse before we can get better. We are strapped to Romo and I don't see him getting us anywhere. I would like to see us in a position to draft difference makers. We get good players that keep us in position to grind out 8-8 seasons. I like what we have done drafting O-Line and offensive weapons but we need a QB and a complete defensive rebuild.

So, you don't see any positive change in the types of decisions the Cowboys have been making?

I see trial and error by people that don't completely have a grasp on what they're doing. Whether or not it's good? That remains to be seen.

KC is going nowhere . You wait and see.
People figured them out the second half of last year .

Not saying Dallas will do any better, but KC could easily take a step back.

That is true. But they have a great young core to build around. If they had a really good QB they would be scary.

This past offseason, I actually agreed with the decisions the Cowboys made. Hopefully that continues. Granted, the cap situation forced their hands to an extent, but I'm hoping that's not the only reason.

It was decent for the situation we were in cap wise. We done enough to be a competitive team. Not a contender and not bad. It's hard to keep getting excited for 8-8 seasons.

...what does this do to your expectations for the team?

I have been of the opinion for some time now that even with Lee healthy, the Cowboys defense has a long way to go before earning my confidence. I honestly believe the offense is actually in a great position, but overall, I don't think the offense will be able to consistently out-score the opposition, considering what the opposition is up against. With Lee out, that only furthers my belief.

What says you?

This is when a good DC earns his money. He did wonders with the DL last year. Perhaps he will scheme the defense in a way that will make it linebacker friendly. There is always a chance that some LB will step up and shock us all. It happens each year on the team, someone comes out of nowhere to not only make the team but to start and really contribute. Sadly the contract Lee signed is just more dead money. However, hope he gets better and has a full recovery.

It's not going to be ok. It wasn't ok w a healthy lee. Lee isnt worth two or three games on his own by any stretch, but this defense is one of the worst in the league no matter who stays healthy on this roster

I guess we can officially take the "if" out of the thread title.

Honestly, this doesn't change our team's possibilities big time, Lee is a great player when is healthy, but ILB is not a crucial position this days, juste see how many has been taken on recent drafts in the first round. Dallas will bet on ball control, trying to consume the clock via an improved running game. Hitchens will do ok, you'll see.

It isnt even a matter of if he can come back from this, it is a matter what will the next injury be and for how many games the next time. Not everybody can hold up physically to the demands of pro football. Lee appears to be one of em.

Maybe I am seeing what I want to see...of all the offseason moves, spending a 2nd and 3rd on Lawrence for me was a reach...but I am not an expert so for the time being I am deferring to their scouts. But otherwise, the Cowboys have churned the roster and have gotten younger overall, which, in my mind, is a departure from their trend of constantly paying players for what they have done as opposed to paying them for what they will do.

I think it's different when said player also happens to be clearly the best player on your defense.

We need a reliable MLB next draft Lee can't be counted on which is a shame cause he's a game changer when he plays
