I've seen a few people say this recently, including Jesse Holley on Hangin' With The Boys. The more I think about it, I agree.

The Cowboys have a talented roster, a veteran QB, a Super Bowl winning head coach, ARod is in the AFC now, and TB12 retired. On paper, this is probably their best chance to win the NFC since the 1990s. Obviously a lot can happen - injuries, etc. - but that is true of any team. They'll have to do something wiith Dak next year, either extend his contract or eat a massive cap hit, Micah and CeeDee are going to get paid, Martin and Tyron aren't getting any younger, so the clock is ticking. Jerry will be 81 this year - his clock is ticking, too.

So if they don't win the conference and get to Vegas this season, when will they? How much more needs to go their way to get over the hump? This is a big season for many in the organization. If Mike and Dak don't get this team any further than what we've seen recently, I think changes will be coming. What do you think?
I think everything in your post is the truth but fear the boss will continue with the same team leaders regardless of outcome.

And those that support this line of thinking here will continue to rationalize why it's the best course of action.

Sad but true.

The change that needs to happen is at GM.
How many times have we had good teams the last 28 years and spit the bit?
Jerry wants things comfortable and all really good teams have to play with an edge.

That's not gonna happen as long as Jerry is large and in charge.

If Chris Jones holds out on the Chiefs, I would offer a high pick for him and go all in this year Rams-style. Doubt he holds out very long, but if the Chiefs start to think that’s too rich, I’d do it. I think the cowboys have 2 years tops with this kind of roster

D will have to step up.

MM will have to devise game plans to maximize Dak's talent.

OL will have to stay healthy and play well.

We need a RB to carry a pretty good load.

The NFL might desire us to win it this year for 2 reasons::

1-Jerry ( so he can retire with grace)
2- good for business for the entire NFL

Like many other years, the Cowboys have a very talented roster. They will be tested by other teams that also have excellent players. Let's see if the revised coaching staff handles them well enough to get the best out of them that they have to offer. That, in itself, should be surprising to see. I hope this season is one that offers the best possible responses from the most demanding of our fans. That'd surely be delightful beyond words to see.

They have definitely NOT gone all in like the Rams did.
good post, the problem is in Jerrys mind, he did go all in !!
Jerry wants to eat his cake and have it too,
By that I mean he wants to manage the cap for the future, and future signings, and he wants a great team now.
You cant do both and have a great team like the rams have or a few years back denver did it..

1. The NFL hates Jerry. Passionately.
2. Business is the only reason they tolerate him.
yes but jerry has also demonstrated that the cowboys can make tons / billions with a team that gets to playoffs, or even a 8-8 team.
As for the cowboys being in a champ game or SB, the increase would be minimal for the NFL.
Those games are all going to get great ratings anyway.

It depends on how it goes down.

Winning it all is hard and it requires everything coming together and most often a little bit of luck.

If the Cowboys were to go down swinging, so to speak, well.... crap happens.

If they clearly underachieve, like the last two seasons, all bets are off and anything can happen.
Niners were the better team both years. They went exactly as far as they should have. There was no underachieving.

Carpe Omnia. Big Mike ain't playing. He's on a mission and the players believe. Recent success has instilled confidence. Having DQ as DC is a bonus. We have core players including Dak, Micah, CeeDee, DLaw, Pollard, Diggs, Martin and Gilmore, not to mention a host of young up and comers. We have unsung heroes like Bland, Diggy, Steele, Dono and Kearse. We have exciting jitterbugs in Turp and Deuce. The head coach and DC have both coached on Super Bowl winning teams. The ingredients are all there. Let's get it.

It remains to be seen (and proven) that the Cowboys' OL will manage to sustain acceptable performances in the upcoming season. Efforts have been made by the management to offer capable backups to our current starters. Tyron Smith is certain to require backup support in the weeks and months ahead in order for this version of the OL to function efficiently. Hopefully, the current backups might be able to provide sufficient protection for our offensive performers in the days to come in the 2023 season ahead. They are subject to proving themselves adequately for this team to prove themselves adequately qualified to compete for postseason success. I think many, if not most of us, have our doubts that the starters will be adequately replaced in the event of injuries in the weeks that lie ahead. Here's sincerely hoping all doubts will be answered in a positive manner and not haphazardly for the tough tasks that lie ahead. I, for one, wish them the best of luck -- as I suspect they'll very likely need it.

Think about it...

If the Cowboys make the playoffs, make it at least to the division round but fail to reach the conference championship game, would it actually be smart to get rid of Dak and Mike McCarthy? Who are you going to replace them with? Certainly not anyone better at this time. Getting rid of Dak and McCarthy would only set the team back. We all know it.
That is the weakest and saddest excuse to keep this misery train rolling .."if ___ and ____ cannot get us to a championship game, who do we have to replace them with?" ... LOL, that is the problem with keeping players that cannot get you over the hump, you continue not getting over the hump. Obviously, you can put someone else in there, anyone., who also cannot get you over the hump, which is the same thing you got and you not taking a step back. So worth a try. You ain't replacing Brady and Belichek in their prime. I figure their window is this next two seasons. After that, throw the bums out. Every year now is like dog years to Jerry.
