If the Chargers beat us, Jerry might be forced to start Lance

Why not go sign Dinucci and start him?

Let’s be realistic

Lance is still many weeks away from being able to play.
I know you're kidding, but that would be at least entertaining ... DiNucci would light this offense up a bit. Wheels to actually get away from the rush too.

After that disaster by the hands of SF, this team looks shell shocked and you can see it starting to fall off the rails. It’s not there yet, but a loss to LA and this season will begin going up in smoke. This is a must win and an important get right game. A loss here and even worse, if Dak doesn’t perform then Jerry might have no choice but start Lance. The chants have already started on here and it won’t be long before others begin joining in. A loss here would torpedo this season for good.
He's has an entire 20 starts including college.......He's more than a project.

What if Dak really K raps the bed in these upcoming games? Would it still be common sense?
Yes, it would take multiple years of it before you consider a switch. Derek Carr is a good example; they kept bringing in new head coaches to try and make him more comfortable, it took years of missing the playoffs before they decided to move on. When you have a pro bowl caliber, entrenched QB… This is how it works in the NFL

This is a myth. Even SF beat writers will tell you lance had the better preseason. Trading him was about saving money on a #3 pick, trying to recoup something at all on the 3 1s they have up for him.

Also a lot of speculation that Kyle never wanted him nu Lynch did. So another piece here is removing any possible locker room disruptions
That's a cool story, but Trey Lance was the Niners starting QB to begin last season. They lost 19-10 to the Bears and Lance completed less than 50% of his passes.

Brock Purdy took over that same team and has gone undefeated. But yeah, Trey Lance was the 2nd best QB in preseason. Okay, bro. It just doesn't mean anything.

I think it’s the fans that are shellshocked.

The only way Lance would start is if Dallas is no longer in the playoff race or if Dak is injured and Rush sucks as his replacement.

Agreed. You’d also have to be done with Dak, which it doesn’t sound like Jones is. There are problems with the offensive scheme right now anyway so why throw him that mess.

Ideas like the OP's are more fan panic than what any team would realistically do. Yes, we had a bad game against possibly the best team in the league this year. Yes, we've got a lot to fix to be able to compete with that team (and the Eagles) and it isn't likely we can do that this year. However, we're sitting at 3-2 and are second in our division with only five teams in the NFC having a better record than us. Even if we lose and fall to 3-3, we're far from eliminated from the playoffs. You don't bench your starting QB in this situation unless he's the only thing holding you back. That clearly has not been the case against either Arizona or San Francisco. He was part of the problem, but not the problem.

You have difficulty following along. It's okay, many do. The comment I replied to had to do with Darnold, not Purdy.

And nothing you said changed the reality of the situation.

Lance is not the backup. Lance cannot even beat out the backup QB. This is the thing people seem to not get. Lance could not beat out Sam Darnold. He seemingly cannot beat out Cooper Rush. He is not a good QB.

Dak will stay the starter until he gets injured or we are eliminated from making the playoffs. If Dak is injured with a playoff chance still on the line you will see Rush starting. We might see Lance play some late in the year if we are already out of it.

Forced by who? Since when does Jerry listen to sucker fans who hand him their hard earned money no matter what he has done for 27 years.

I wish I was Goro so I could give this thread four thumbs down.

I strongly disagree. Very strongly. The Niners knew they had a good team this season. They had real hopes of winning a SB. They also knew that in the NFL it is common to lose a QB and teams often have to go to the back up guy. Darnold was obviously the best choice. Lance was the number 3 guy and expendable.

Even so, he's probably not getting any reps during practice, other than being a decoy with the practice squad.

Do you realize why most of the power rankings still have us between 8-10 after that disaster last week? Because the NFC sucks. We have enough talent to back into the playoffs. Not happening unless Dak goes down
I agree and if Dak were to get hurt, my guess would be Cooper Rush would be the starter.
