I'd probably have to go defense, and considering we have lots of DTs, I'd most likely go with Charles Haley in his prime. No way id go with Ware unless we return to the 3-4.

However, I would sure be tempted to see what Tony Dorsett would do behind this OL.

a lot of those 20 yard runs would be td's by TD!

Any player: Reggie White. I think we're a pass rusher away from being a Super Bowl team.
Cowboys player: Charles Haley. See above.

Because of the 1977 version of Harvey Martin.

More like because league wide scoring was trending downward, and the league wanted to open up opportunities for the offense. The illegal contact beyond five yards rule was also enacted that offseason.

Suppose the Cowboys could bring back any player in its history to play for the rest of the year in his prime. Who would help and benefit the team the most?

Randy White. A nasty, brutish individual...not to be trifled with. Missed one game in fourteen years...so also durable as hell.

Bob Lilly or Roger Staubach absolute no brainer. Non Cowboy Deacon Jones.

That was the first name that came to me.

edit: If it's a Cowboy, I'll take the 1977 version of Harvey Martin.

Yep...The greatest season by an NFL defensive end...even Strahan's monster '01 season doesn't compare, given Martin's 23 sacks (85 tackles) in just 14 games.

Because Aikman played in this exact kind of offense as a pocket passer and won 3 superbowls. He was deadly off of playaction pass, would love to see the numbers he'd put up with these receivers and in this era of passing offense.

Staubach was in a run first offense. He had a great OL, a great RB and 2 excellent WR's with a very good TE. A classic pocket passer isn't exactly what you want when you're having protection issues like the Cowboys are currently having. Romo was sacked 7 times in his last 2 games. He's had to escape the rush and make several plays outside the pocket. You need a mobile QB who can dodge defenders and get outside the pocket and make plays especially with the Cowboys being exposed by Washington with the blitz. Staubach would fit the Cowboys situation perfectly.

He was great in come from behind situations and the Cowboys have had to battle from behind in several of their games plus Staubach could make plays with his legs. No offense to Aikman he was a great QB but Staubach was the greatest QB in franchise history and would have fit well in just about any offense. He won SB's with 2 completely different Cowboy teams.

Um, yeah he would.
I don't see it. He would have to drastically change his game to be effective, since the physical safety has largely become irrelevant thanks to the rule changes. He'd no longer be bigger and stronger than anybody, and he certainly wouldn't be faster.

Could he come in and be a good player, I guess. But he wouldn't be Ronnie Lott in the way we think of him.

WOODY!!!!

Good pick, my first thought too after all it's a passing league now. I do think that JJ is turning the corner and our secondary is playing better than last year though. For a non Cowboy alternative I'll add John Lynch just because of his experience in this system.

It is funny to see Charles Haley's name get mentioned so often. He was very good. Dallas has had better whether it is just pass rushers or overall players.
