If the Cowboys don't go heavy in FA, why not re-sign Dak?

Zach Wilson was the #2 overall pick. Should the Broncos be excited about him? The problem with giving Lance a chance is that it’s going to be preseason, so there will be a small sample size and essentially nothing to go on in the regular season except what he’s done already, which isn’t much. Either they give the keys to Lance in 2025, or you look elsewhere IMO. It’s a gamble, for sure.
Zack Wilson has 33 starts.

Trey Lance has 4.

Big difference there.

Lance wasn’t bad in those 4 starts either.

800 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs with an 85 QBR.

Also, what I’m most excited about is Lance his rushing ability. He’s averaging 30 rushing yards per game, but that’s skewed and would be much higher if not for him getting injured very early into his 4th game.

If you only average his 3 full games started where he played the majority of the game he’s giving you 60 rushing yards per game.

Daks never come in the same universe as that and he was considered a dual threat QB.

Thats 1,020 rushing yards over 17 games for Lance. Thats first amount QBs by 200 yards and 9th among RBs last season. He would been our leading rusher.

The Cowboys have kept pushing Dak's money so he would be a reasonable cap hit. We still haven't done much in the playoffs. All that is over now. We're not winning when his cap hits are much larger.
so the time has come. take the big hit and move on. every team has to go through that at some point.

Thats of course a problem. And we didnt have bad drafts only in 2023. Look at the last 5 years. Those are not good.

It shows that we are at best medicore at drafting. Not how we are advertising us as very good.
well you make a good point. we have had hits and misses in past 5 years. I don't think you are going to hit on every, but you have to, must hit on first rounders and be really good in 2nd and hit a few in lower rounds. so Micah, CD, Bland, Diggs, etc. have been good finds.

but last year was horrible. we got nothing from the draft. 2024 is questionable until we see results. 2022 we hit on Smith, Sam Williams has underwhelmed. Ferguson was a find (and why did we draft a TE in 2nd round last year?).

the challenge is we don't show willingness to sign impact player in FA, knowing you will over pay for top talent. that's FA for you.... so we live with those gaps (DT, LB, Saftey, RB, in past two years alone)

Yes -- like I clearly stated, Jerry was disgusted with the amounts of money he had to pay Dak without the win he expected vs. Green Bay in the playoff loss that followed. The football miscues weren't about to be placed upon themselves if they could help it. The defensive holes that led to their playoff loss weren't about to be accepted by way of their own failures to fortify their defense as need be. Pointing the finger on Dak's contract and the money spent was a clear out for the FO to take.

Of course, the fact that the FO of Jerry and Stephen had to blame on anyone and everyone but themselves for the managerial failures that they were responsible for making. The holes in the defense were there when they failed to attend to putting the nails in that coffin. Far be it from the FO to take full responsibility of their failure to attend to the weakness that led to that embarrassing playoff loss. It was a convenient excuse for the FO to blame Dak and his agent for that loss.
he was not disgusted. else he would haved moved on last year.

Jerry is assessing the impact to his marketing of cowboys. jersey sales. cha ching stuff. if he doesn't feel like there is impact and path to recovery for next few years and he can keep making money. he will resign Dak. like I said, his expenses are limited by cap floor and cap celing.

and I agree, Jerry and Stephen are inept as GMs and football people.

2nd team All-Pro and lead league in touchdown passes. Don’t need to smoke anything to see that Dak is good.
you can rail around the "good" all you want. sure, dak has some good to great points. only a fool would say otherwise.

however -

he also has baggage you choose to overlook while trying to "sell the good" too hard.

if you're not smoking something, you should be.

And BTW, they just went and re-tooled their OL in the draft, giving it an influx of talented youth. He had one of the most consistent OLs in terms of health the whole year last year, which is one of the reasons why the offense was better after the bye. Dak has been in a QBs dream. Us fans on the other hand, have not.

Last year, Jerry failed to see the forest for the trees by thinking he had a far better team than he did. That's been his MO for decades. He thought he had a Green Bay win in the bag and the embarrassment was more than he was willing to accept any responsibility for. What followed was an attempt to deflect any blame for his own failures in cap management. And yes, in that respect, it's all about money, as always. He should have been disgusted with himself but fortunately, Dak and his agent were available to take the blame.

I hear you, and I’m hopeful he gets a shot, but it’s a big risk with the small sample size. The whole offensive system would essentially have to be changed to tailor to Lance’s strengths. The next head coaching hire is very important. They can’t go with an old retread.

Would this team go out and get the top DT, RB or LB on the free agent market if we had a QB on a rookie deal or even between 20-30 mil a year? Probably not.

I'm not on the Dak bandwagon, but the best bet is probably extending Dak and shoring up the run offense AND defense.
Because he's not the answer to get the Boys over the HUMP when it comes to showing up in the BIG GAMES. Prescot can't be trusted anymore, so why sign him to some expensive extension? He's says it's not about the money so why haven't we heard from Prescot that he's giving the Cowboys a huge hometown discount so that they can sign a couple of game changing FAs???????????????

Strengths????????? What strengths???????????? Being on the West Coast, I caught some of TL's games on the tube and he never looked like the future of the 9ers, more like a rookie QB with little college experience who looked really shaky in the pocket.

I think we're the only ones looking forward to him using his legs to make plays. We'll wait for the others to come along ONCE they see him benefit the drive

It blows me away to hear another man say what another man should get on his paycheck. I mean...think about this...if someone who has not had step foot in any man's role, shoes, or has his skillset to say what he should be making....is somewhat disturbing. Let another man determine what you should be making and it's a different ballgame. Stay out of that man's pockets.

It’s totally theoretical and last time I checked, opinions whether right or wrong are allowed here.

Disturbing? ***? Its not like someone outside of the FO has any actual say.

Welcome to the world of sports fans. I don’t see a problem with it at all. He’s been over paid this entire contract. If I were the owner Dak would never have gotten past his rookie contract.

When he goes full deer, I see absolutely zero leadership from him. He’s usually sitting alone vs stirring up the troops. Maybe Jerry finally woke up?

Your opinion! I have mine. I can speak on a post just like you can speak on my. I've been involved with sports my entire life....since 8 years old. You just don't speak what another man should be making...period!
