I'll go ahead and say it: Winston > Mariota

If I had to draw a comparison to Winston as a player I'd say he reminds me more of a Steve McNair or Rothlisberger (and not just because they both rape women), big, strong-armed, really hard to bring down, a lot more mobile than you'd think, hangs on the to ball way too long.
If I have to compare Winston to Mariota I just don't see how anyone would seriously take Winston over Mariota. Mariota is near the all-time low for any college QB in history for throwing INTs while throwing a tonnage of TDs, and unlike most running QBs…he's 6'4 and blazes a 4.4 40 with a strong arm. Meanwhile, he's a solid leader (from what I read) and a 100% class act off the field.
Meanwhile, Winston throws a ton of INTs (and FSU hasn't exactly played a lot of tough teams this year). It would appear that he plays crappy for 3 quarters then lights up the 4th. However, having watched a lot of FSU games this year I'd have to say a good portion of the time he was more lucky than good. Late in 2 games where he threw multiple INTs and they were down in the late 4th he throws what SHOULD'VE easily been a final back-breaking INT when inexplicably the DBs run into each other or just botch the easy pick as the ball goes on to land in the WR's hands and they run for a game-winning TD. Sure he may be better than the previous FSU QBs but that ain't saying a lot. He's going to be an INT-machine in the pros, that is if he can stay out of jail. Which is the next point, the guy is a d-bag off the field. Once the FSU football lawyer gestapo isn't protecting him from himself, the police, and the accuser's lawyers, he's going to be on his own. He apparently can't go more than two weeks without doing something incredibly stupid and/or classless. Also, Jimbo's deal selling his soul to the devil (obviously) won't cover Winston the second he leaves FSU. So even if you think that Winston was going to be better than Mariota as a pro, you have to wonder if he'll be eligible to play half the time considering how idiotically he handles himself off the field.
I guess my point is, you don't HAVE to like Mariota, but for the love of all that is good that shouldn't automatically mean you should want to draft Winston.
This year's crop is pretty horrible. IMO, Mariota is the only QB I'd take in the first round. Even if I was desperate to draft a QB, the earliest I'd touch any others in this draft would be the third and then I'm not sure who it'd be.

Winston's on the field talent is very clear. If we're talking just on the field ability then give me Winston over Mariota, however, there is a whole other side to evaluate. From Winston's issues, it appears that he is very immature and any team that drafts him will be taking a gigantic risk.

Winston is great. But will be an epic mistake by the team that drafts him. He's more than dumb. There is a MAJOR screw loose here, and will be a headache for the team that takes him.

Amen....kid is a dolt and BAD news.

If they can't be Cowboys then I'd be happy if Mariota, Winston, Hundley, and Petty are not in the NFC East. I do not want to see any of those Qbs twice a year.

Are you kidding me? I'd love to face these guys.

Pretty good chance that 3 out of 4 never become legit pocket passing NFL QB's.

I fear none of them.

yeah i'm with you. None of them scare me. Wintson sucks. The guy has no clue what to do with the ball once the play breaks down. His feet are terrible, big wide stance and side arm throw.

Mariota is a system QB and I think he will get beat up in the NFL like RG3 and get to scared to play.

Petty is a true system QB, nothing but first read throws. Every play the ball is our fat and already throwing to a WR before he even looks.

Hundley has struggled this season and needs another year. He tries to force the ball to much and doesnt have a good zip on the ball.

Mariota is going to be a very QB in this league
I disagree, he might have a good rookie year but do see his long balls of the passes where he has to throw on a line. Not enough zip for the NFL. the ball hangs there to much.

I think Mariota will be a good NFL QB. He is smart enough and has plenty of talent to handle the position. I have watched every one of his college games and the dude is a gamer. IMO he will adapt to the NFL. Think a bigger version of Wilson.

Winston has a very slow release. He didn't play all that bad last night. His teammates let him down. Even that laughably bad fumble....he went through his progressions and attempted to make a play.

My problem with him is that after every missed pass he was crying for a flag throwing his hands up in the air. It got to a point when he was going off Jimbo looked like he was going to send him to the bench. Something about the guy I just don't like. Reminds me a lot of Ryan Leaf

Jimbo had to reign him in the other night. Nothing new though....kid is an idiot. See for yourself:

No idea if he'll be a superstar...the odds are against anyone doing that.
But, IMO, absolutely zero chance he's Leaf 2.0
Zero

Which regard? On the field or the likelihood that he will end up in jail? Cuz if it's the latter I am going to disagree lol

CowboysZone LOYAL Fan
I disagree his body language speaks volumes imo

The good thing about something like this, an honest disagreement on what may or may not happen, is that actual results will tell someday.

We'll know in a few years.

Lol
It'd be hard to top or match Leaf though
