Well, he paid lip service to that claim (about being a Jerry fan), but his subsequent arguments called it into serious question...

he wasn't overly excited by all the HC prospects;
and is worried about Jerry interfering.

Seems reasonable to me...

Guess you missed the part where he distorted Garrett's football background, repeated the lie about Norv making demands vis a vis Garrett, and arrogantly ASSUMED that Jerry (who we need to remember was FORCED into this coaching search, it was not something he wanted to do this offseason) chose himself a "puppet"... never mind that Wade Phillips has never been known as anybody's puppet...

Had he stuck to the "reasonable" points you cited, I rather doubt I would have responded to what he wrote...

"gang up" on posters is really quite juvenile, and quite ridiculous... all that you see happening here is a group of guys who happen to agree MOST of the time, and who enjoy jumping into an argument like this one, and dissecting the arguments being made...

Indeed, there have been times when me and ice have gone nose to nose (though most of the time, that was politically motivated)... there simply ain't no "club" of posters who PM each other with plans of attack... there ain't no "conspiracy" of any kind...

I have myself been the one "ganged up" on in arguments from time to time... on another board, the folks REALLY didn't like my sarcastic mocking of Superstar Randal Williams, the Fastest Stiff in the NFL... and all I was doing was pointing out what I thought was the essence of common sense-- that an NFL WR who hadn't caught a pass in 33 NFL games played (at that point) wasn't exactly what you'd call an asset to an offense...

But I stood my ground in the face of all those folks "ganging up" on me, and I emerged from it relatively unscathed... which is my way of pointing out that ANYBODY who takes an unpopular stance on a message board is gonna find himself "ganged up" on by those who take issue with his position...

If you have a problem with that, then you probably shouldn't be posting to message boards, because they were like that long before I found my first message board, and haven't changed in that regard in the 7 years plus since that day...

The single best way to avoid such problems is to bring the FACTS when you state your original argument; clearly, lewpac did not have his facts straight; at least, nobody has yet bothered to take issue with the rebuttal I laid out... they seem to be focused on the fact that I was hard on his take... but like I said, I brought facts in my rebuttal, apparently such compelling facts that none of you has found a reason to dispute any of them...

D*MN me for bringing facts to a debate, anyway...

A short synopsis of recent Cowboys history and a not-so-bold prediction for their future:

Jerry has meddled.
Jerry is meddling.
Jerry will meddle.

It's what he does. It's inevitable. My job is to decide the extent to which I care, if at all. It's his team and he can do anything he wants with it and we are all powerless to interfere.

I accept the things I cannot change; I don't have to like them and I don't have to buy tickets or memorabilia or even watch the games for free on TV.

I still watch the games, when convenient, but I find myself caring less about the outcomes as time goes by. It's high quality football that has become important to me, not who plays it or who wins. Maybe that's a cop-out but it keeps me from staying in a state of morbid depression caused by Jerry's antics. Anyone who has been a true fan and really cared over these last 12 years is a candidate for a nervous breakdown. I have chosen to remove my feelings from the matter and just be an uninvolved observer.

Over on another board, I've been threatened with a "ban", been called every vile name in the book, and have been accused of being "on drugs" and being "from another planet" because of my opinion about the Phillips/Garrett hirings.
I'm a Cowboy for life. Got a helmet sized Star tattooed on my leg. Have always had Jerry's back and defended him for years against all comers.
But, based upon the events I've witnessed the last few weeks, I'm not inspired by the new "regime" in place.
I contend the following: The Garrett hire as OC, or close to it, occured BEFORE the HC hiring. Garrett's resume' begins and ends with a 2 year stint as QB coach in Miami. Have you seen the QB picture in Miami lately? How come Huzinga, with all his coaching staff problems didn't do everything in his power to keep Garrett? If a QB coach is the "next Vunder-Child Offensive guru", how come we didn't go after the QB coach in Indy. Or New England? Or New Orleans? What about the QB coach in Green Bay? Doesn't sit well with me.
Then, who else made any mention of Wade Phillips or Norv but Jerry? Nobody. Why is that? How come Turner's door slammed shut as soon as he mentioned his concern about the Garrett hiring?
Wade's record is a winning one, but nothing inspiring or worthy of praise. Certainly not in the playoffs.
All this smells to me like Jerry's got his "crony's", "toady's" and "yes men" on board so as to stick his nose in where it doesn't belong. In the huddle, on the feild and making decisions about who plays where and when.
Am I completely "off my rocker" and "from another planet" for considering such a thing?
I wanted Rivera. How come Dallas can't have one of these young guys with a fire up his ***, spitting nails, pacing the sideline's, one who actually played the game and can actually run onto the field with the players? How come we can have one of these Lovey/Payton/Gruden type of guys? I'm tired of of yesterday's news coaches with boobs. Gailey, Campo, Parcells, and now Phillips. Old school guys the game has passed by (imo).
I love the Dallas Cowboys. But this thing smacks and smells of what I said. An owner who's setting things up to meddle, with a crew of people who will do anything he says.
I honestly want your opinions. Because I'm being treated like Hannibal Lector on this other board for what I think it not that "bizarre" an opinion on this.

You have them? Jerry was forced? We know that? You know that? Are you Jerry? ...etc...etc...

I didn't miss the part with Garrett. I think he has a fair comment about the coaching experience. I think it's a fair comment that he spent most of his match day life as a Cowboy with a clipboard in his hands, that he comes from a football family....etc etc...

There is such a word as 'class'. The beauty of being as clever as you clearly are is that YOU have the CHOICE to show class or lack of, by mercilessly picking fault with someone in a pedantic fashion. I think that is overwhelming in this thread.

The way a few others followed you WAS equally classless and you appeared as their champion, just like the big bully in the playground (- although to be fair, you don't command that authority). Others thought it, and so did I.

I doubt that a claim of 'juvenile' will have much weight when thrown in such an arrogant and adolescent manner.

By all means continue with your style, I'm a strong believer in 'freedom of speech' within reason. It makes entertaining reading, however it lacks a certain decorum that I feel a man of your IQ and standing should be striving for.

PS - remarks concerning PMing and conspiracy are a little disconcerting; particularly as collusion is perfectly operable along tacit principles.

If your answer is that you don't work for them at all then I would think it would be impossible for you to say as a matter of fact that Norv never made such demands to Jerry.

And it's cool with me that Bear came down hard, that's what these forums are all about.
Again, biggest thing is not the Anti-Phillips/Garrett vs. the Pro-Phillips/Garrett drama. That's going to happen no matter who got the job. It's the nature of the beast.
My interest in asking around here was about the reaction. I'm serious. I go to several Cowboy boards. This board I mentioned, I've been one of the main contributors too and supporter of for a long, long time. Never had a problem, pretty big player, always brought pretty good game. And just for the record Bear, anyone can "incognito" flame, threaten, curse, put people down, go in the gutter, etc...........I never do that. So, no, the reaction was NOT because I mischaracterized my vocabulary over there. I use the Kings English just like I'm doing here.
And, like always, I give credence to the other side. "I could be wrong", "I can see that", "You may be right"............all my post are littered with these "meeting you halfway" things. Just like your take on Garrett........good points, who knows, time will tell. As of now, no one has any real grip on what he MAY bring. I hope I'm wrong. "Red Ball" could be the next big thing.
Anyway, I could go toe-to-toe with any one too. I wouldn't even bother to post anything if I were thin-skinned. The very purpose of any forum is for whoever to post whatever they want. But like I said, I wanted to test the waters over here about the same subject as a litmus test. Becuase if my take is really that "out there", I honestly want to know before I make an *** out of myself again. That's the way it's going over on that other board, and I just don't get it.

IF a board threatened to ban you for posting your opinion, a reasonable opinion without flame/personal attack then you don't need to be there.

WP wasn't my first choice but the fact is, he is here now and we should support him and hope that he takes the Cowboys deep into the playoffs.

I'm not looking at or dwelling with WP's past, rather his future with the Cowboys.
