Baker Mayfield has led them to more success then any QB they've had in a looooooong time, but they knew he wasn't the guy. So they refused to pay and him paid a real QB (although with a lot of baggage) instead.

The Browns are doing things the smart way.

If you go back to the Mayfield thread, there were reports Baker was offered a contract below market value. Somewhere around 30M. I'm going to try and find it. But supposedly Baker refused saying he was worth more, and continue on without an extension.

Right. But like I said, Gallup isn't getting 25M a year following his rookie deal. While Diggs will get top market value, other lesser CBs will not. They'll accept less money. They can more easily be replaced.

He is not. I like Mahomes, but he has flaws. He masks them and makes up for it due to his talent. You'll see him make passes just fine. What you'll rarely if ever see is him step up into the pocket and deliver the ball. The SB they lost to the Bucs is a perfect example. The playoff game against the Bengals is another. He'll choose to take off over buying time in the pocket by stepping up. Sometimes QBs with great mobility have a hard time committing to stepping up. He's one of them. Another you'll see rarely doing that is Kyler Murray.

I agree with every word you said. But like you said, it is opinion. QBs also find ways to get around their weak points. I only said that about Mahomes because people talk about him as if he can do no wrong, as if he's a god.

Although you're right about the Chiefs getting to the SB, but the decisions your coach makes has something to do with it too. The poor coaching choice the Bills made at the end of the playoff game against the Chiefs cost them that game. I believe the Bills beat Cinci and go on to the SB to play the Rams had it not been for that dopey decision. Maybe he was overconfident? Maybe the moment was too big for him? People talk about bad clock management with our HC, his poor clock management cost them a trip to the AFC championship game and possibly the SB.

gallup wasn't the top dog in the FA WR market. it all depends on who is available.

They were all 3 first team All Pro only in 2016. Being All Pro one year doesn't mean they play at the same level Smith played in only 13 games in 2017 and 2019. Frederick retired after the 2019 season because he wasn't at a first team All Pro level and wasn't voted as such.

As far as the "participation trophy" goes, if that's the way you think then 31 of the 32 teams every year did "nothing", because only 1 can win. All three were Pro Bowl O-Lineman in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and Martin was an All Pro for all three years. Smith missed a few games not half a season and from memory he didn't play in the infamous Falcons game where Prescott got to experience what a lot of other quarterbacks face every game in the league, not just a couple of times a season.

This is why a few of us liken Dak to Smith. He'll put up pretty end of the year stats if you like just box scores without digging into the circumstances or situations of how the stats came to be, but if you look you'll find that there's usually zero substance to them, and your team will ultimately fail with you under center because you're just not that guy.

Insert real QB in Kansas City and you've not went home before the Conference Championship game since.

Point 1: Mahomes played in 73 games, Dak only 56 and Dak still has him beat in 400 yard games.

Point 2: Mahomes has a god-like receiving unit. Dak has a very good receiving unit but it doesn't compare to Mahomes'. Kelce + Hill > by far anyone we got. Cowboys are receivers by committee. Chiefs have a receiving unit that have been proven unstoppable by 31 teams.

Point 3: Wins are a team accomplishment, so Mahomes didn't win those games on his own.


Again, Mahomes > Dak overall because of his Super Bowl and his postseason accomplishments, but lots of his games are simply because Chiefs are good enough to jump ahead and beat teams without Mahomes needing to do much. Cowboys has a bad defense most of the times, 0 dominant D-linemen, a used up starting running back, and an O-Line that blew the SF playoff game badly. Mahomes O-Line was horrendous in the Super Bowl, but at least they chose the last game of the year to be bad in.
