If we don't know the facts, how do we know the NFL sent someone to the rehab facility?
We're all speculating. I'd just let the situation play itself out.

That's my point exactly. It's all speculation even those saying he is definitely gone for a year.

No, it isn't.

Not yet.

Roger Goodell will become the final say if Randy Gregory loses the appeal and is given a minimum one year suspension.

That would mean he'd be eligible to return one year following the suspension and Goodell would decide when Gregory could return if the player met all other requirements in his treatment program while banned.

The appeals hearing isn't Goodell's show.

The medical director and medical advisor overseeing Gregory's treatment program will be the ones who really decide the matter.

They will reveal where Randy was when he entered the NFL Substances of Abuse program last Spring and where he is now.

It's almost impossible to be optimistic in a case like this, but I believe Gregory is trying to mature and overcome his addiction.

And he has better odds of succeeding long term as a part of the Dallas Cowboys than on his own while serving a minimum suspension of one year.

If Gregory is really trying, he deserves another chance.
We know he has been clean since Sept.....that is something

The whole point is we don't know any of the facts.

True.

If he was in rehab, had permission to leave the facility and let the NFL know he was leaving for the weekend and they sent someone there to test him anyway, should he still be suspended.

In this event, the NFL wouldn't grant permission to leave the treatment facility if a test was forthcoming or they would arrange to have Randy Gregory get tested wherever he was going that weekend.

If Gregory has passed all his drug screenings since the reported missed test, I don't see how it can be viewed as a big deal.

The real issue is whether or not Gregory has been following his treatment plan, passing drug tests, and trying to become a professional football player.

There would have been multiple failed tests by now if Gregory was just an immature, lost cause who simply wasn't ready to be an adult.

He's trying.

Now isn't the time for the NFL to hit Randy with a gigantic hammer and say, 'talk to us in a year and maybe you can come back.'

Are you sure, and if so, who actually rules on the appeal? The medical people have input and a big say, bur I doubt they decide the appeal.

I know Goodell has the say in the one year part, but it's difficult to find who actually rules on the appeal. I know the NFLPA sometime even takes lost appeals to higher courts, lime Brady, but not sure if Gregory has that option.

Given everything you've presented, it seems that the appeal decision will show whether the league cares more about helping players rehab or more about doling out punishment.

Given he's a Cowboy, I'm betting on the latter.

The NFL has no say so whatsoever about a players rehab. Players go to rehab on their own. If they are in the testing program, they have to inform the league where they will be at all times. The article stated that he had permission from the rehab facility to leave for the weekend and that he informed the league. We don't know whether that is true or not but that's my point. The fact that they appealed tells me something happened that they feel wasn't Gregory's fault. If it was the league that screwed up, then maybe there is a case. That has been my point all along but I don't pretend to know that that's what happened.

I'm sure.

It's in the NFLPA policy on Substances of Abuse.

All appeals under Section 1.5 of this Policy shall be heard by third-party arbitrators not affiliated with the NFL, NFLPA or Clubs.
The Parties shall jointly select and be equally responsible for compensating no fewer than three but no more than five arbitrators to act as hearing officers for appeals under Section 1.5 of this Policy.

It looks like the NFL is plotting against us. For some reason they decided to decide on his appeal BEFORE the playoffs. You want to bet that if it was the Giants or the Patriots they would wait until after the season was over. When will JJ get ticked off and use some of that power that he has in the NFL?

Don't count on Gregory, he's facing a year suspension......and I doubt he could go three month's without failing a drug test, he's an addict
I do not think that is accurate, he is compromised emotionally and self medicates if you believe the media if this was about alcohol it would not have the same stigma. This is private stuff that we really have no business being part of IMO. I wish him the best and hope he sees a path he can negotiate.

He has gone 3 months or he wouldn't be playing....the appeal is from TC or Sept from what I recall....he has been clean since then.....tested up to 10x a month

It seems like there are several versions of this recent failure to test. I can believe NYGiants Mara will be pushing for full speed ahead.

The NFL can't plot against the Dallas Cowboys in this matter.

Appeal hearings will be scheduled to take place on the fourth Tuesday following issuance of the notice of discipline. Upon agreement of the Parties, the hearing may be rescheduled to another date.

He needs to watch Von Miller and immulate his game to the best of his ability.

His only tool to get around the edge is his speed. He needs to gets stronger and figure out how to power his way around the edge a few times a game.

the upside is, he can really penetrate and make a play.

the downside is, he often overpursues and misses the play.

No chance he wins the appeal. When was the last time any member of the Cowboys organization won any decision against the NFL?

And the worst part is this will be an open ended timetable, so Goodell decides when it ends. Good luck with that. I think we've seen his last snaps as a Cowboy. Trade him to GB or NY and the suspension will be lifted after an appropriate time.

What? What makes you so sure that he won't win? Seems people here are cheering for his demise rather than cheering for him to make it thru this.

He was once projected to be the first overall pick...he has very elite pursuit, once he gets his sight on the qb it's goodbye, his closing speed is ridiculous.
