Is AOA still supposed to become our FS?

I don't know how long it will take or if they draft a FS high but he has the talent to be a really good one from what little I've seen. Really great athleticism that translates to the position.

IMO, he is still another year or two away from even being considered ready to take over as a fll time starter. He was raw coming out of college, missed almost all of the off season workouts and then a good portion of the season. That's a lot of time to miss for a guy that needed as much time as he could get.

He's an amazing athletic talent and has a good head on his shoulders. I'm sure he will pick it up quick but you can replicate on the field expierence.

when we drafted him it was the intention that he "red shirt" w/r/t being a FS - he's got the tools but didn't play at a level high enough to just step in to the NFL - he was a Division 2 player. That said, he sure sucked as KR, so he will really need to step up to keep his roster spot.

This is one of my fav threads created on Cowboyszone. AOA is one of my favorite young guns on the boys and I think he has a legitamite shot of becoming one of the best secondary players on this team. I almost see him becoming a Tramon Williams type of player. I think he should get some reps this season but I'm still patient on the guy I'm willing to name our savior ever since the retirement of Darren Woodson.
He was a man amongst boys in college. And yes I know he was kinda the big fish in a small pond, but I still think Akwasi Owusu-Ansah will make a name for himself here based on what I've seen from him. Based on measurables, work ethic, and smarts for the game, I think we have ourselves a gem.

AOA is gunna be the man folks. Mark my words.

on a side note guy's like this this is why i hope they have a version of "bird rights" in the new CBA. (Without turning this into a CBA death match post) because it absolutly bugs the hell out of me to lose a guy that we spent the time to draft & train . I dont care what anyone says fans love and root for "homegrown" players more than anything in every single sport.

I wouldn't be surprised if AOA never turns into anything. I hope he does, but these super-athlete small college guys are often more hype than substance IMO.

A lot is going to depend on how phyiscal he is. Hopefully he shows more of that as he gets comfortable and maybe puts on a few pounds.

I see your viewpoint, and I respect that. But I dunno whether its a gut feeling or I just have seen more of Akwasi Owusu-Ansah than you folks...

Theres no denying that I am big on him...but then again I was big on #42 back in the day, Pete Hunter, and he was similar to AOA in terms of coming from a small school, being a 4th round pick, and possessing some serious intangibles.

I'm still gunna go with my gut feeling though.

AOA is another "project" player and how many of those have panned out for us? I have little faith that AOA will contribute, and I'll bet he is NOT the answer at FS.

If they Cowboys are lucky he'll make the roster and eventually contribute on nickel and dime defense next season. If they're unlucky, he won't be good enough to make the team. Hard to say at this point which is more likely. He hasn't impressed anybody so far.

we need to stop drafting players to play in positions they have never played before. it's hard enough to play in the NFL, let alone learn a new position.
