Is DeMarcus Lawrence done?

I would not jump to that conclusion quite yet.
He's fat and getting fatter, has had multiple back surgeries, has a drug suspension history and his play has been nothing more than average at best. Unless it's a Claiborne type deal, I really don't see him being back.

I don't see the problem in having too long bodied and long armed DE starting.

I think DLaw Collins Irving Taco might end up being our starters. We have an excellent 8 man rotation and the competition for playing time will be fierce at all 4 positions.
If someone is calling me late in preseason about a day 2 pick for Irving or Mayowa I might listen. It would take a 2nd to get me to really listen.

Depth wise I think we are at that point.

I think Collins could become the catalytic player we need this year. Im very curious to how much stronger he has gotten. Im not expecting Taco to become that guy in 2017, but he has the potential to deveope into that catalytic force on the edge. Ive seen some Chandler Jones comps.

So much conjecture there.

In the old days they would say the person is going off "half-cocked".

Drug Suspension- check
Multiple back surgeries- check
Average play and production-check

That's not half cocked or incomplete information. That's 3 years of history and a 1st Rd pick taken that plays his spot. Oh, and Tapper who also fits his spot.

If you want to argue he isn't fat, fine. But he looked like a DT last year and looked out of shape in the photo of him from a month ago.

It still works. All that and he never once considers that he is coming off back surgery.
All what? So he should get a pass for not playing well because of a back surgery? Well he just had another one so he gets a pass this year as well? Now he's not even off his rookie deal, has a drug suspension and two back surgeries. After just drafting Taco, you explain why anyone should think the team sees it any differently.

If his back is fine, he starts this year, and probably leads the team in sacks. Ten would not surprise me. I am not sure why you think that somebody that had a great year and then plays through the pain of a bad back all year is deserving of your ire, but whatever.

The year after that depends on the health of his back, the size of the contract offers he gets from other teams, and the development of our young DE's.

I was talking about him putting weight. "All that" was referring to the post in question. Not DLaw's total body of work.

I'm with you in being disappointed in what he did last season. I was expecting him to make a difference. He did not. I'm just not mad at him.

Wouldn't be shocked if Lawrence has a solid 8 or so sacks this year. He's looking for a payday. I'd let him go next year honestly

I'm not mad at him, just trying to be realistic on what the Cowboys are thinking. I was one of the few who expected good things(along with you if I'm remembering right) after his rookie year and felt vindicated after his sophomore year. There's just a lot going against him now with the surgeries and drug suspension moving forward. Even with a good year, I'm not seeing the Cowboys signing him. The Taco pick seems to be the proverbial writing on the wall for a second deal.

Edit: And I completely agree the back likely is a reason for his weight gain. It's just hard not to think that will be an ongoing battle going forward with the nature of back injuries.

I am actually looking forward to contract year DLaw now that the brass has said his recovery from surgery went well. Could lead to a nice compensatory pick and a productive season if nothing else.

Other than that I am just saying that it should be little surprise that a guy put on weight following back surgery considering there is almost no exercise that he can do while healing up.

I'd say we're finally at a point where we have a solid DL rotation. What I like is that (assuming Tapper and Taco can play) we have numbers and probably don't have much drop off between 1-8. What I don't like is that we lack real play makers other than *maybe* Collins or Irving. I'd love an edge playmaker, but they're so hard to find and expensive to get. Obligatory hat-tip to Crawford for getting pressures consistently when nobody else can.

We do have a shot to have some playmakers among the LBs, though.

It would have been nice to have added one in the secondary yesterday, honestly. But the Titans took our guy there.

What is latest with Lawrence's back? Him, Irving and Taco would make a nice rotation. Saying Taco is automatically RE when he's basically a DML clone makes me think even Jerry has lost hope
He's garbage!
