Is Dez Bryant a lock for the HOF?

Dez's body was build for the HOF. He was a freak. His mind was not. He didn't work his craft hard enough to make the most of his years of being a freak, or play effectively when he lost the I'm Just Better Than You advantage.
Dez worked on his craft every offseason. Even to this day. He just is what he is. Everyone can’t be Megatron.

For years we were talking about him not expanding his route tree, having soft routes, and not showing effort on his routes unless the ball came his way.
He had the physical gifts to be a lot more.

I just read an article where Dez was saying that he is sure that he is a lock for the HOF because of all the TD's he has caught during his career.

"Nobody put up TD's the way I put up."

His numbers -- 7,506 career receiving yards and 77 total touchdowns -- aren't historically enough to lock him in ... but he is one of the freakiest players to ever play.

Dez tells us what he did in such a short time should be enough to get him in ... but he did admit he's probably not a first-ballot kind of guy at this point.

What you citizens think?
I'm going to defer this question to T.O. :muttley:

Amen.. Drew Pearson was the most clutch receiver I think I ever saw. There was simply no covering him on the deep comeback route. It was like stealing when he and Roger ran it. I'm sure he dropped a pass or two but I cannot recall ever seeing him do so. People who get hung up on numbers from a completely different era of football compared to today could not be more blind. The fact that Drew was named first team all-decade in the 1970's should be all anyone needs to know about his place in the game. He was first team all-pro three times.. THREE. Mind you this was accomplished while playing in the same era as other hall of famers like Paul Warfield, Charley Taylor, Lynn Swann, Harold Carmicheal, , Lance Alworth, John Stallworth and on and on. He rarely had huge numbers because the Cowboys were a loaded offense and Landry believed in spreading the ball around. If Drew played for a coach who believed more in feeding a player and taking the best advantage of favorable matchups he might have doubled his career numbers. Even at that he managed to lead the league in receiving yards once. And the year he did it the Cowboys won the Super Bowl.. so for all those who reached for their keyboards to claim it was "garbage time yards" you can stand down.. Pearson's 88 was the first jersey I ever bought.. and remains one of only two that I have.. the other is Emmitt's 22. I may buy others as the years go on.. but those two will always be my first two..
I met him once. He was at the Cowboys Pro Shop in DFW signing autographs. I bought a football for my newborn son and got in line. When it was my turn, he had his super bowl ring on the table. I asked him if I could try it on. He looked me up and down and said, "go ahead, I can outrun you." Super nice guy and my now 16 year old son has that football displayed in his room.

Freak of nature athletic ability
Mind of a child who never grew up

Needed to play longer at peak levels, not half *** routes, and study the playbook

Sad cause he could have been one of the all time greats. Now he's going to miss out on the HOF cause of his immature attitude

Any #1 receiver for the Cowboys during the Tony Romo era put up hall of fame type numbers during the Tony Romo era.

I don't think running routes is something you can develop. For instance, no matter how hard Dez went or tried...he would never be what Amari Cooper is on route running. Dez went and saw route running specialists and still didn't improve. Its a gift some guys have Jason Witten had a knack for it and wasn't nearly the physical beast Dez was.

Yeah because he had some great #1's...he went from Terrell Owens to Dez Bryant lol. And in between was Miles Austin who would've had a better career if not for the hammy issues.

I wonder if Bryant still needs a baby sitter like he did in his 20s. Can you imagine. A "grown" man with a baby sitter. LOL. Hall of fame indeed.

No Hall of Fame.

No Ring of Honor.

He was a good player. Romo made him look great at times. But it was way too short-lived with him.

I think this angle is a bit overplayed. With as many circus catches Dez made off a DB's helmet or reaching back around him because the ball was thrown too low you would think people would give Dez his due. Close your eyes and think about all the times Romo hit Dez in stride on a beautiful deep ball or crossing route.. Chances are your memory will be quite limited with those. More often than not Romo was throwing it in Dez's zip code and counting on Dez to make a play. I think it is more accurate to say they helped each other look great.

Respectfully Amigo, did you ever watch Pearson play? If you had, I don't think you'd be describing his play that way. The Cowboys were a finese team in those days. They weren't a ground and pound team like the 90's. Pearson was a great receiver and downfield blocker. He had tenacity and heart, and was a team leader for several years. You can't always judge a player by total yards and catches.
Several years. That shouldn’t get you into the hall.

Dez had the physical talent, but didn't work hard enough on his routes and effort after getting paid. He doesn't deserve to be in the HoF. Sad but true.
