So you don't want to go with a 3-4 or think he could fit one?

Doesn't matter he is not going anywhere.

i like the 3-4 and think he can be used in a 3-4 scheme if the DC is flexible.
the problem is his back.
together with the fact that we are probably not a contender this year, why not get value for him.
we are already worried about TSmith's back issue.
do we want to double down on bad backs and have yet another large contract with a back issue?

really?
has thornton played well at all?
unfortunately thornton and carroll were the most pricey FA acquisitions in each year - am i correct?

Maybe you can provide an exact plan on what the Cowboys should have done including who they should have signed, what they should have paid and what the resulting cap cost would have been.

i already did a few months ago
1) sign a top FA CB so we could focus on the DL.
2) if we are too cheap, sign Carr to stabilize the backfield so we could focus on the DL.
carr's contract is not that much larger than the loser we signed.
we could easily have absorbed carr's contract.
hell, we cut Thornton's contract despite the big cap hit.

i may get around to a cap calculations for all our FA misses and should have been's.
this nightmare of a season is making me so pissed it may be enough to get out my spreadsheet.

Paea and Carroll gone.
With Thornton already gone a few weeks ago, so who is left to cut?
Sounds like the FO may be cleaning house or even cutting bait on the season.

Carroll/Paea probably to be replaced by young cheap players though it is possible a vet LB would be picked up if they are not cutting bait yet.
So much for the cheap FA strategy because McClay can work magic.
Unfortunately, FO's hubris got out of control.
So we have 2015 repeating itself.
Lets hope there is some magic left in McClay combing practice squads.

1) Hopefully TSmith's back will be figured out.
Whether he needs surgery or just rest, we shall see.

2) Also lets give the Chido's hamstring enough time to recover instead of forcing it every 3 weeks.

3) If nothing else, lets play the young players and hopefully a few will be players.
So that means Lewis, Chido when healthy, Woods and may be White.

4) On the WR side, let Brice, Brown and Switzer play, and trade TWill if we can.

5) That probably means trading DLaw before the deadline - never trusted his back despite the early performance.

The season is almost shot, so let's see some good come out of it.
Without getting into the definition of tanking, we will likely get a top-10 and perhaps a top-5 pick if we tried hard - could mean 2 defensive playmakers next year.
Pretty much agree.

I look at this as a rebuilding year now, too.

The offense barring more injuries will survive.

but the defense will continue to hemorrhage.

Yeah, on the same morning.

Are you claiming the Cowboys forced Paea to retire?

i have no proof, but does that not seem a bit too coincidental to you?
seems like some soul searching has happened, as it should have.
after the coaching braintrust was spanked again in the same way as January, you think jerry and stephen are thinking championship?

Do it Waldo! Do it.......

Can you work up a scenario where we got Calais Campbell and McCourty at cb and never signed paea, Carroll, and bell.

You didn't get the message.

The Cowboys season is lost.

And if something happens to Kyle Wilber.

The nation may be lost also.

with another week or 2 of losing, kyle wilbers of the roster should be cleaned out also
we may as well bring in young players to audition.

i am gathering energy for it and there is much less guessing to do now.
i want to work up a simple scenario with just carr.
then a scenario with 1 premium FA.

The only thing the Paea retiring and Carrol release proves is that the this penny pinching plan we have implemented the past few offseasons is not working. I’m not saying we should go back to throwing an absurd amount of money at old washed up players with big names but we have failed to build through the draft at positions of need. For example. DE. We passed up on a few premiere rushers for...Taco Charlton? I would’ve rather we paid a FA DE then draft a mid second round player 28th overall. This FO needs to loosen the pockets a bit more IMO
