is it time to overpay for 1 position now?

are we 1 player away from getting there?

no. and no.

if we didn't have TO the sense of urgency would be stronger, to be sure. but we do. if we didn't have witten to back up TO as our real #2 WR, sure. we'd need to panic a tad. but we do.

if we didn't have marion barber as our fiesty rb ready to b-slap someone down and be determined to make the screen work in dallas we'd have a problem. but we do. if we didn't have jones in here now with his mad skills to compliment barber, maybe we'd need to focus on wr more.

but we do.

we're in a position of strength and now is NOT the time to panic but to find out how strong you are. we've got the depth we've not had in awhile but no, not at WR. if we didn't have one of the top rated offenses in the league on our side i'd be worried.

but we do.

now is the time to see how things fit and see how this book reads. if a good deal comes into play, look it over like you always would. but don't panic.

but we do.

we're in a rare position and yes, we need to work on the WR position. a few years ago we needed to work on the OL and we have. last year we needed to address the CB position, right?

and we did.

we can't fix everything at once. things don't "fall" like that. we can't reach and we can't overpay but we can keep our eyes open to improve at all positinos at all times.

and we have.

so no. now is not the time to screw it all up in a rush of mock panic, no.

Everyone knows you need legit #2 star and a superstar TE to go along with your #1 WR to amount to anything in this league. Just ask Amani Toomer and Kevin Boss.

Ummm really i didnt know that

No way. That is a ridiculous amount to give up for either of those two WRs. Go with TO, Crayton, Hurd, Austin, etc and let the cards fall where they fall. Next year we can draft a WR.

Only one ball. And one ball ain't enough for TO, Witten, and Roy Williams/Boldin.

I mean, it's just kind of annoying to see his posts complaining every time somebody gets on here worried about our WR issues.

I didn't start this thread because I'm losing sleep over our WR's depth chart.

It's just that WR depth and QB depth are our only possible concerns.

This team is loaded with stars and quality depth. DB, LB, DL, OL, RB. We are loaded! You could take away one good player from each of those units and we keep on truckin!

Couldn't we survive losing these guys for the season: Newman, Thomas, Ratliff, Columbo, Barber?
It would suck, but we could still get to Tampa.

But subtract 34 year old Owens from the equation, and we're hurtin.
Now add Boldin and could weather losing one of them!

Now consider having both these WR's and how dynamic our offense would be. We'd have a star WR to lean on after Owens retired as well.

Oh I wasn't arguing with your post at all. I completely agree we need more depth at WR. I was talking about some other dude.

Anyway, I think Boldin might be too costly and we don't really need a ridiculous #2. We just need a quiet workhorse like Glenn who goes out and does his job and is playing for the right reasons. The Glenn thing really hurts because most WRs have such a huge ego and are always complaining about receptions, but the older vets are just hungry to win games and are willing to sacrifice for it. Unfortunately, it's tough to find a quality older vet who is also quick and has good hands. Joe Horn brings nothing to the table over our current guys. All of these reasons make the Glenn situation an even tougher pill to swallow. It's not that I really had my heart set on Glenn as much that he was injured 15 months ago and our front office did nothing in that time to prepare in case his career would be over. Instead, they stuck it out and hoped he'd recover from surgery and then stuck it out and hoped one of these other guys would step up.

People disregard the importance of WRs but keep in mind that the Colts last season struggled at times without Harrison and the year before, Brady pretty much forced the front office in NE to get him some receivers (Moss and Welker as it turned out) because the team couldn't get it done. Crayton is not the answer at the #2 and you don't groom guys like Hurd and Austin when you're trying to make a Super Bowl run. Groom them when you're building for the future. Right now, we need a battle-tested guy opposite TO. We had that in Glenn. Now we don't. Also, I know that Garrett is making lots of money to figure out an offense that will work for this team and that he needs to earn his money, but our window is open right now and that means we should patch up any remaining issues. We've come this far...now is not the time to get complacent or even egotistical and start adding more pressure on your coaching staff...especially when TO and his 34 y/o body could go down at some point.
