Sorry but Sims does not bother me. I find Mike Tirico, Al Michaels and Joe Buck to be much worse announcers.

Two different jobs and skill sets. Simms Tirico, Michaels and Buck are play by play so I think it's fair to compare them against each other.

Gruden, Simms, Aikman and Collingsworth are analysts, so it's fair to compare them to each other.

And please - let's not rip Brent Musberger here. If you know anything of the history of the Cowboys in the 70's glory days, Brent was part of the fabric of those times.

Also, don't know if you guys know but Vern Lundquist who does the SEC and golf was the Cowboys play-play guy for years. In fact, I think he's in the Texas Sports Hall Of Fame.

I like Simms personally. But I wish Gus Johnson did NFL games. I know he's a little excitable when doing NCAA games but I like his passion.

Just saw this - and you are exactly right. Gus Johnson to me is the best and there's not a close second.

Are their two different men named Phil Simms and some of us get one guy and the rest of us get another? That's the only thing that can explain this thread. Simms is one of the best sportscasters covering football. He's the best at staying unbiased. I can't believe anyone would compare him to Theissman. Theissman just talked to hear himself talk and spewed biases. Simms also avoids the trap of hammering the same point to death. Collinsworth used to be really bad about that, though he's improved. Aikman does that some, though he is a good announcer.

Anytime I find out Simms is going to be covering a game, I think, "Good! I get to watch a game without being annoyed and with comments that are actually insightful." To answer the question, Simms is not the worst. He's one of the best.

I've found anti-Cowboys agendas in essentially all the mainstream color commentators. Honestly, I almost always mute the TV and turn on the radio to hear Sham or Babe. Those guys are the only nonbiased announcers I can find these days. It's really a shame that being anti-Cowboy and anti-Texas is in vogue.

Do you realize how ridiculous it sounds saying that all TV announcers are biased in your view, but then you turn on Cowboys radio station because they're the only unbiased ones?

it's not even close, SImms is by Far thee worst color man in the business.....he constantly contradicts himself.....the offensive line is the weakest link of this team, and not two minutes later, the offensive line is the strength of this team....this quarterback has a strong arm to make all the throws and then ten minutes later, this quarterback needs an offense tailored to his strengths because he doesn't have the arm strength to make all the throws as an NFL quarterback........he does this constantly and says thee dumbest things I've ever heard during a football game...

Some here have praised Simms for defending Romo claiming the term "elimination game" was created just for him.

The only thing that I find annoying about Simms is he uses a malapropism due to either carelessness or poor education which is inexcusable for someone who does broadcasting. He says "acrossed" instead of "across." He'll say Dez went acrossed the field and made the catch.

Never had a problem with Simms as an announcer until he took a public stand on the Commander name.

I can not for the life of me understand how this is the big game guy for CBS and now NFLN. He is terrible. It's like he is not even watching the game. Or he's announcing to a bunch of kids who don't understand football and just learning for the first time. He will make statements such as "Bailey had a chance to catch that ball and pick up many yards".

He is also the announcer on Madden this year. He is the same on there. One of his lines word for word in that game was "it's better to play from ahead than behind".

There's a reason why BAD Radio on The Ticket devote whole segments to him weekly on how bad he is.

He's annoying, but Joe Buck takes the cake.

I like Harlan/Gannon, Gumbel/Green, Nantz/Simms, Albert/Johnston.

I don't like Michaels/Collinsworth, Buck/Aikman, Tirico/Gruden, Dedes/Wilcots.

The rest get apathy.

I like Gruden and Collinsworth but their pairing more than make up for that. I am ambivalent on Aikman.

I like Musberger and Lundquist but they don't call NFL games much these past several years.

My pick for the worst is Donovan McNabb. He's now doing some games on Fox; and he's as bad in the booth as he was in studio.

I get that Joe Buck is smug, but he much better than Simms.

Simms talks football. Buck is smug sure but he also likes to spew moral judgments and emotional generalizations. Most of his actual analysis is in the form of affirming what his pairing says. I mute him regularly.

I like Simms because he knows the QB position and points out things that I don't recognize. It's hard for me to evaluate QB play. He never says things that make me want to turn him off.
