I'm more interested in the rumblings of the front office regarding Dak remaining the starter over Romo. Heard that on 98.1 The Ticket on my way to work. Not sure how true, but sure peeks my interest over T Will.
Dak needs to put together a nice winning streak before we even start talking about leaving him as the starter when Romo returns.
I am talking like 5-1 or 6-1 when Romo returns for me to even entertain the idea and even then I am not sure. Yea, I know it happens, but the unwritten rule is that a star player does not lose his job from injury, especially a star player that has been the face of the franchise the last decade.
And hypothetically, what are we going to do with Romo then? Is Romo going to be the backup QB with a $24 million salary? I don't think he is tradable with that contract either and the cap gurus on this board say Romo cannot be released until 2018 at a minimum without a massive cap hit due to all the restructures that have been done to Romo's contract.
So its not an easy decision to make, ideally it would have been best if Romo could have played out this year and next year and then Dak takes over in 2018. There is also the problem of dividing the lockerroom if you make this into a Dak vs Romo type of deal. Are players like Witten who have been through thick and think with Romo from lost playoff games to Cabo to everything else, is he just going to accept Dak as the new QB while Romo sits on the bench?
Like I said, its not as simple as people seem to make it out to be, there is never a good way to move on from the a player that has been the face of the franchise for the last decade.
